Nano-sized cobalt (II) oxide nanoparticles with a high crystallinity were synthesized using thermolysis of a $Co^{2+}$-oleate precursor at 310$^{\circ}C$. The phase and morphology of as-prepared cobalt oxide nanoparticles were characterized using X-ray diffraction, high-resolution transmission electron microscopy, and Brunauer-Emmett-Teller surface area measurements. The cobalt oxide nanoparticles were found to be spherical nanoclusters with an average diameter of approximately 200 nm, consisting of tiny nanocrystals (10-20 nm). Furthermore, the Li electroactivites of the cobalt oxide nanoparticles were investigated using cyclic voltammetry and galvanostatic cycling. The cobalt oxide nanoparticles could deliver high capacities over 420 mA h $g^{-1}$ at a C/5 current rate.

We have fabricated $Bi_{3.25}La_{0.75}Ti_{3}O_{12}(BLT)$ thin(200nm) films on the $Pt/Ti/SiO_{2}/Si$ substrates using a MOD(Metalorganic decomposition) method with annealing temperature from $550^{\circ}C$ to $750^{\circ}C$. The structural properties of the films examined by x-ray diffraction. The layered-perovskite phase obtained above $600^{\circ}C$. Scanning electron micrographs showed uniform surface composed of rodlike grains. The grain size increased with increasing annealing temperature. The BLT thin films showed little polarization fatigue test up to $3.5{\times}10^{9}$ bipolar cycling at a 5V and 100kHz.
Several plasma-sprayed ceramic coatings with two- and three-layers were characterized and tested for the application of cooling tube coatings of oxygen convert gas recovery system (OG cooling system) in the steel making plant. Thermal cycling tests using a torch heating with compressed air cooling were carried out and characterized before and after the tests. The effects of metallic bond coat as well as ceramic top coat were also studied. Possible failure mechanisms with low carbon steel substrate were assessed in term of microstructure, porosity, bond strength, thermal expansion coefficient, and the phase transformation. Finally, the results of field tests at the OG cooling system are presented and discussed their microstructural degradation. Test results have shown that three-layered coatings perform better than two-layered coatings.
This study describes the effect of coating the $Li[Ni_{0.8}Co_{0.15}Al_{0.05}]O_2$ cathode surface with a homogeneous carbon layer produced by carbonization of polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) as a novel organic source. The phase integrity of the above cathode was not affected by the carbon coating, whereas its rate capability and cycling performance were enhanced. Similarly, the cathode thermal stability was also improved after coating, which additionally protected the cathode surface against the reactive electrolyte containing hydrofluoric acid (HF). The results show that coating the $Li[Ni_{0.8}Co_{0.15}Al_{0.05}]O_2$ cathode with carbon using the PVDF precursor is an effective approach to enhance its electrochemical properties.
Spinel phase $LiMn_2O_4$ is of great interest as cathode materials for lithium-ion batteries. In this study, SHS (Self propagating High-temperature Synthesis) method to synthesize spinel $LiMn_2O_4$ directly from lithium nitrate, manganese oxide, manganese and sodium chloride were investigated. The influence of Li/Mn ratio, the heat-treated condition of product have been explored. The resultant $LiMn_2O_4$ synthesized under the optimum synthesis conditions shows perfect spinel structure, uniform particle size and excellent electrochemical performances.

The canned motor of 3-phase induction is used for main coolant pump(MCP). The type of motor is canned-motor that stator and rotor are welded by sealed can. So, cooling water flows in the air gap of the canned motor as an independent cycling cooling system from the air gap to yoke of the motor to prevent high temperature of stator can and to lubricate bearing. Heat exchange is occurred between cooling water in the air gap and cooling water from the exterior pump to prevent rising of temperature in the motor. I has to analyze the characteristics of can exactly because the loss and the heat in the can are very important to design MCP. Therefore, thermal analysis is studied considering the effect of eddy-current los induced in the can.

The durability and reliability of thermal barrier coatings (TBCs) play an important role in the service reliability, availability and maintainability (RAM) of hotsection components in advanced turbine engines for aero and utility applications. Photostimulated luminescence spectroscopy (PSLS) and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) are being concurrently developed as complimentary nondestructive evaluation (NDE) techniques for quality control and liferemain assessment of TBCs. This paper overviews the governing principles and applications of the luminescence and the impedance examined in the light of residual stress, phase constituents and resistance (or capacitance) in TBC constituents including the thermally grown oxide (TGO) scale. Results from NDE by PSLS and EIS are discussed and related to the microstructural development during high temperature thermal cycling, examined by using a variety of microscopic techniques including focused ion beam (FIB) insitu liftout (INLO), transmission and scanning transmission electron microscopy (TEM and STEM).
The cell cycle phase in which donor nuclei exist prior to nuclear transfer is an important factor governing developmental rates of reconstituted embryos. It was suggested that quiescent G0 and cycling G1 cells could support normal development of reconstituted embryos. In a quest of optimized donor nuclei treatment prior to nuclear transfer, this study was undertaken to examine the cell cycle characteristics of bovine fetal and adult somatic cells when cultured under a variety of culture treatments and the cell cycle change with the lapse of time after trypsinization. This was archived by measuring the DNA content of cells using flow cytometry, Cultured fetal fibroblast cells, adult skin and muscle cells, and cumulus cells were divided by 3 culture treatments; 1) grown to 60-70% confluency (cycling), 2) serum starved culture, 3) culture to confluency. Trypsinized cells were fixed by 70% ethanol and stained with propidium iodide. For one experiment, trypsinized cells were resuspended in DMEM+10% FBS and incubated for 1.5, 3 and 6 h with occasional shaking before ethanol fixation. Cell cycle phases were determined by flow cytometry enabling calculation of percentages of G0+G1, S and G2+M. The majority of cells were in G0+Gl stage regardless of origin of cells. Cultures that were serum starved or cultured to confluency contained significantly (P<0.05) higher percentages of cells in G0+G1 (89.5-95.4%). For every cell lines and culture treatments, percentages of cells in existing in G0+G1 increased with decreasing of the cell size from large to small. In the serum starved and confluency groups, about 98% of small cells were in G0+G1 Serum starved culture contained higher percentages of small-sized cells (38.5-66.9%) than cycling and confluent cultures regardless of cell lines (P<0.05). After trypsinization of fetal fibroblast and adult skin cells that were serum starved and cultured to confluency, the percentages of cells in G0+G1 significantly increased by incubation for 1.5(95.7-99.5%) and 3.0 h (95.9-98.6%). The results suggest that the efficient synchronization of bovine somatic cells in G0+G1 for nuclear transfer can be established by incubation for a limited time period after trypsinization of serum starved or confluent cells.
While ornithine decarboxylase (ODC) is considered a key enzyme in the biosynthesis of polyamines, difluoromethylornithine(DFMO) acts as an inhibitor of polyamine synthesis. Cycling crossbred gilts were randomly assigned to one of two (treatment and control) groups (6/group). An indwelling silicone catheter was surgically implanted in the jugular vein of each animal. DFMO was dissolved in saline(200 mg/ml) and adminstered by i. m. injection at a dose of 80 mg/kg/day. The control group received an equivalent volume saline injection. DFMO was injected 3 times daily(08:00. 16:00. 24:00h) from day 16 of estrous cycle to 21 or until estrus. Once daily blood samples (10ml) were taken from day 14 until two days after the last DFMO treatment. Window blood samples were collected every 15 min for 8 h (from 08:00 to 16:00h) starting on day 16 and continuing until day 21 from one gilt per day. Serum progesterone (P$_4$), estradiol (E$_2$), LH and FSH were measured. Typical concentration profiles for P$_4$ and E$_2$ were seen during the follicular phase regardless of DFMO treatment. Injection of DFMO suppressed the preovulatory LH concentration in the serum(p<0.01) while having no effect on FSH profile. The present results indicate that DFMO had an inhibitory effect on LH secretion in the pig, but did not affect PI, E2 or FSH release.
