  • Purpose: To evaluate the white matter fiber connectivity of normal human using diffusion tensor MRI. Method: Normal young healthy volunteers (2 women and 1 man) and 3 brain tumor patients participated in this study. All studies were performed using a 1.5T Philips Gyroscan Intern system. Diffusion weighted imaging was performed using single-shot echo planar imaging, with navigator echo phase correction and SENSE. Diffusion weighting was performed along six independent axes, using diffusion weighting of b=800s/$\textrm{mm}^2$. 128matrix, 23cm FOV, 2.5mm slice thickness were used for Imaging parameters. Data were processed on a Window-2000 PC equipped with IDL and PRIDE (Philips Medical System). Corticospinal tract was traced from mid-pons level via posterior limb of internal capsule. Corpus callosum, cerebellar peduncles and frontal fibers were traced by fiber tractography.

  • The false diffusion occurs generally when the flow is oblique to the grid lines and when there is a non-zero gradient of the dependent variable in the direction normal to the flow. This numerical problem can overestimate diffusion terms in the continuous phase, causing the numerical inaccuracy for the simulation of impinging sprays on inclined walls because most of spray calculation uses rectangular grid system. Therefore, the main objective of this article is to investigate numerically the influence of false diffusion on numerical simulation for spray-wall impingement on inclined walls. It is found that unlike the spray impingement normal to the wall, the numerical diffusion exists in the case when diesel sprays impinge on the inclined walls with different angles. The results show that the correction function should be considered for accurate prediction of spray penetration length and more elaborate numerical schemes should be utilized to reduce the false diffusion.

  • The velopharynx is a tridimensional muscular valve located between the oral and nasal cavities, consisting of the lateral and posterior pharyngeal walls and the soft palate, and controls the passage of air. Velopharyngeal insufficiency may take place when the velopharyngeal valve is unable to perform its own closing, due to a lack of tissue or lack of proper movement. Treatment options include surgical correction, prosthetic rehabilitation, and speech therapy; though optimal results often require a multidisciplinary approach for the restoration of both anatomical and physiological defect. We report a case of 56 year old male patient presenting with hypernasal speech pattern and velopharyngeal insufficiency secondary to cleft palate which had been surgically corrected 18 years ago. The patient was treated with a combination of speech therapy and palatal lift prosthesis employing interim prostheses in various phases before the insertion of definitive appliance. This phase-wise treatment plan helped to improve patient's compliance and final outcome.

  • Linearity of ratio error of instrument transformer comparator has been tested using wide ratio error voltage transformer(VT) with the ratio errors in the range of -3 % to 3 %. The technique is the method for evaluation of the linearity for instrument transformer comparator by comparing both the theoretical and experimental values in wide ratio error VT. The developed method has been successfully applied for calibration and correction in instrument transformer comparator belonging to industry.

  • At present. distance relay and ${\Delta}I$ current increment relay are used as primary and secondary protection in the AC feeder system. However. electric railway vehicles according to power electronic's development had developed resistance control, thyristor phase control and PWM control system. and operation of train is increasing in a feeder section. Therefore this paper analyzes the load characteristics and situation of relay's maloperation caused by load current increase, harmonics, regenerative braking current and operation of the different vehicles in same feeder section. Based on this analysis. this paper proposes consideration items for relay correction and advanced adaptive relay that can change operation area according to load current.

  • This paper presents a new ZVS single phase bridgeless (Power Factor Correction) PFC, using an active clamp to achieve zero-voltage-switching for all main switches and diodes. Since the presented PFC uses a bridgeless rectifier, most of the time, only two semiconductor components are in the main current path, instead of three in conventional single-switch configurations. This property significantly reduces the conduction losses,. Moreover, zero voltage switching removes switching loss of all main switches and diodes. Also, auxiliary switch turns on zero current condition. The presented converter needs just a simple non-isolated gate drive circuitry to drive all switches. The eight stages of each switching period and the design considerations and a control strategy are explained. Finally, the converter operation is verified by simulation and experimental results.

  • In this study, a planar respiratory motion is modeled by a 2-D linear expanding-shrinking movement. According to the introduced model, respiratory motion imposes phase error, non-uniform sampling and amplitude modulation distortions on the acquired MRI data. When the motion parameters are known or can be estimated, a construction algorithm based on superposition method was used to remove the MRI artifact. For the purpose of estimating unknown motion parameters, we used the spectrum shift method to find the respiratory fluctuation function, the x directional expansion coefficient and its center, and we also used the minimum energy method to find the y directional expansion coefficient and its center. Finally the effectiveness of this presented method is shown by computer simulations.

  • For small capacity rectifier circuits as these for consumer electronics and appli capacitor input type rectifier circuits are gen used. Consequently. various harmonics gen within the power system become a serious pro Various studies of this effect have been pres previously. However. most of these employ swit devices, such as FETs and the like. The absen switching devices makes systems more toleran over -load, and brings low radio noise benefits propose a power factor correction scheme using resonant in commercial frequency without swit devices. In this method. It makes a sinusoidal by widening conduction period using the cu resonance in commercial frequency. Hence, harmonic characteristics can be significantly imp where the lower order harmonics. such as the and seventh orders are much reduced. The resu confirmed by the theoretical and experm implementations.
