  • The one-third calibrating relation by steady solution can cause large error when applied to an unsteady flow with large amplitude waves. Extended calibrating method, which can treat the normal convective contribution, is developed. The normal mass convective term is included into the 2-D mass transport equation by means of rms value and random function. The unknown shear rate is numerically determined by solving the 2-D mass transport equation inversely. This recovery method which predicts the unknown shear rate is constructed. It is found that it works very well without distortion. The inclusion of the normal convective term has a negligible effect on the mass transfer coefficient.

  • A high performance liquid chromatographic method was developed for the simultaneous determination of free and glycine conjugated bile acids. Free and glycine conjugated bile acids were extracted from bear gall bladder by methanol and from serum using a Sep-pak $C_{18}$ catridge. The extracted bile acids were labeled with 2-bromoacetyltriphenylene in acetonitrite using 18-crown-6-ether as a catalyst. Derivatized bile acids were separated from the individual bile acids on a reversedphase column (Chemcosorb 5-ODS-H) using acetonitrile-methanol-water(10:50:30) as a mobile phase and monitored by an UV-detector at 254nm. Linearities of calibration curve were obtained between 4 ng and 24 ng, and recoveries from bear gall bladder sample were higher than 94%.

  • In this paper, we propose an estimation method using multiple in-phase and quadrature (IQ) signals of different frequencies to evaluate the sample-time errors in the sampling oscilloscope. The estimator is implemented by ODRPACK, and a novel iteration scheme is applied to achieve fast convergence without any prior information. Monte-Carlo simulation is conducted to confirm the proposed method. It clearly shows that the multiple IQ approach achieves more accurate results compared to the conventional method. Finally, the criteria for the frequency selection and the signal capture time are investigated.

  • Piperine, component of pure ground black pepper, has strong stimulative and hot. Analytical method for piperine was developed by high performance liquid chromatography. Analytical conditions are as follows, mobile phase is 70% methanol, detector UV 343 nm (0.05 AuFs), column is Novapak 5 C18 (15 cm $\times$ 4.6mm), flow rate is 1.0ml/min, chart speed is 0.25 cm/min and injection volume is 20 ul. Analytical results are as follows that relative standard deviation is 1.15%, calibration curve is y=170473.1x-7848.5 (R2=0.999) that shows good linearity. Standard solution of piperine is stable up to 10 hr and content of piperine in pureground black pepper is 4.97$\pm$0.86% Retention time of piperine in HPLC method is about 7 min. Therefore, the developed HPLC method including simple pretreatment of sample will be contribute to quality mangement.

  • A recently developed methods for on-site calibration of the current transformer (CT) comparator system have been reviewed in the paper. The method utilizes several traveling standards, which consist of the CT, non-reactive standard resistors, wide ratio error CT, and shunt resistors. The traveling CT is used for absolute evaluation of a standard CT belonging to industry. The non-reactive standard resistors and a wide ratio error CT are used for the linearity check of errors in the current comparator. The shunt resistors are used for evaluation of CT burden of industry.

  • As a result of the medium coupling, propagation characteristics of ultrasonic waves guided by a multi-phase medium can be different from those in a homogeneous system. This phenomenon becomes prominent for a medium consisting of phases with considerably distinct material and physical properties (e.g., submerged structures or human bones covered with soft tissues). In this study, the coupling effect arising from both fluid and soft tissues on wave propagation in engineering structures and human bone phantoms, respectively, was explored and calibrated quantitatively, with a purpose of enhancing the precision of ultrasonic-wave-based non-destructive evaluation (NDE) and clinical quantitative ultrasound (QUS). Calibration results were used to rectify conventional NDE during evaluation of corrosion in a submerged aluminium plate, and QUS during prediction of simulated healing status of a mimicked bone fracture. The results demonstrated that with the coupling effect being appropriately taken into account, the precision of NDE and QUS could be improved.

  • This paper briefly discusses the main sources of errors and their solutions for measuring hydrogen uptake from gas phase by the Sieverts technique. Correction of volumetric errors of apparatus, density of hydrogen storage material, estimation of temperature gradient are investigated. Systematic errors and the change of density of the host material according to the pressure have been the subject of much controversy in recent years. We considered the standard ball calibration, temperature gradient distribution, pretreatment of hydrogen storage materials to minimize errors. We could lessen the miscalculations after applying those methods to Equilibrium pressure-composition isotherm data.

  • This paper presents the analysis of the required limit on a multibeam active phased array antenna (APAA) aperture using the statistical simulation for a High Altitude Platform Station (HAPS). The simulation takes into account the random errors caused by the non-identity of the array elements and the inaccuracy of the antenna calibration. The results of our statistical simulation show that the strict requirements on the sidelobe envelope for HAPSs can be met when the amplitude and phase distribution errors are minor, a condition which may be achieved by using digital beam forming.

  • UV and high performance liquid chromatographic methods for the quantitative analysis of methyl 5-hydroxy-dinaphtho [1,2-2',3'] furan-7,12-dione-6-carboxylate(MHDDC) in urine and blood were developed. The correlation coefficients of the calibration curves of MHDDC in chloroform, methanol and dioxane solution were 0.999, 0.997 and 0.998, respectively. MHDDC was resolved within 15 min and had a detection limit of 2-5ng at S/N=3 by using a reversed-phase column with two solvents (MeOH, HAc).

  • The purpose of this study is to develope an accurate procedure for measuring the glass content of fly ash produced by bituminous coal to assist in predicting their behavior in concrete. Quantitative mineralogical compositions of fly ashes were obtained by internal standard method using powder X-ray diffraction analysis. In the X-ray diffraction method, the specimen and standard fluorite were cautiously mixed and pulverized to 22$\mu$m in wet process so as to avoid the prefered orientation of the crystal and microabsorption effect of X-ray. calibration curve were fitted for several references peaks of four phases:$\alpha$-quartz. mullite, magnetite, hematite. The amount of glass was calculated by subtracting the amount of crystal phase and loss on ignition from the total amount. Glass content determined with this method ranged from 66.7 to 75.wt%.
