The purpose of this study is to develop an evaluation criteria for students' portfolios in an annual intramural contest. To accomplish the purpose, evaluation categories and their questions were developed after previous literature, ABEEK's evaluation guidelines, and eight Universities' evaluation forms were analyzed. Furthermore, experts' validity tests were completed by showing that the evaluation criteria form was validated with a mean score of 4.24. Also, the inter-rater reliability was turned out with a high score of .86. The interview results by evaluators of students' portfolios made the final version of evaluation criteria form include five evaluation criteria categories and their allotted score portions: overall organization(40), personal information(15), certificates and awards(5), curriculum(15), and extra-curriculum(15). The importance of overall organization was discussed from the perspectives of teachers as well as students.

The purpose of the present study is to develop several types of English teaching/learning models in view of cross-curricular approach in Korean elementary school. Brewster(1992)' model is suitable for younger children as well as the 1st or 2nd graders. For 3rd or 4th graders, Halliwel1(1997)' model seems more proper type in Korean EFL situation. There has been studying for cross-curricular approach in elementary English education. Many studies has recently focused the characteristics of elementary students by cognitive and psychological perspectives. Among them, Park(1996)'s research talks about the elementary school students. Han(1996)'s research based on the notion of applied to other subjects. Kim(1999)'s also emphasized the importance of linking other subjects. Kim(2003) argued the need of integrating English with other subjects. The elementary education as the National Common Basic Curriculum(NCBC) has the essence of cross-curricular approach, so the English education will be linked with other subject matters more and more, not just as for Communicative function based English education but as both content and function based subject matter.

The purpose of the study is to investigate the effectiveness of the cultural instruction based on the critical pedagogy through film. The participants were 21 college students enrolling 'Understanding American/British culture'class and the class was 15 week long. During class, they discussed and selected the cultural topics related to the movies, complete the research papers, and then gave presentations. The students' portfolio, which consists of the goal statements, research papers, and the reflective journals, was analyzed to investigate the effectiveness of the instruction. The results showed that the instruction was effective in five aspects. They are, 1)accumulation of the cultural knowledge, 2)better understanding of the target culture and its people, 3)acquisition of the critical perspectives toward the target and their own cultures, 4)teaching method, and 5)increase of the motivation for studying other cultures. The study suggested that the instruction should be applied to English-medium class with more advanced students.

Participants were 272 teachers from kindergartens and child care centers who responded to 2 survey questionnaires: translated and revised versions of Laub's (1999) Servant Organizational Leadership Assessment(SOLA) and Jorde-Bloom's(1989) Early Childhood Job Satisfaction Survey(ECJSS). Components of SOLA were values people, develops people, displays authenticity, builds community, provides leadership, and shares leadership; components of ECJSS were co-worker relationships, administrator relationship, job itself, working environment, possibility of rewards/promotions, feelings about the organization. Data were analyzed by SPSS WIN computer program, Pearson's correlation and multiple regression analyses. Relationships were found between servant leadership of the early childhood educational institution and job satisfaction. Components of perceived servant leadership that predicted job satisfaction were 'develops people', 'displays authenticity', 'values people' and 'provides leadership.'

The main concern of the study is the playwrights' perspectives toward the relationship between society and individuals rather than specific cultural or social circumstances. This study is justified in that the similarities of both playwrights not only provide an opportunity to bridge two different cultures, but they also help readers understand another culture and deepen the understanding of their own culture in the map of international literature. In their plays, both Miller and Cha express an individual's or a family's frustration, conflict, pleasure, and hope as reflected in the social circumstances. The characters take ideas and values from their social world and thrive or fail. Specifically, I have focused on three elements--obsession, generational value systems, and alienation. With three common features, I examine how closely Miller and Cha deal with ordinary people's tragedies.

Given the noteworthy increase in the number of native-born English-speaking. EFL instructors teaching overseas, this research examined 6 American EFL instructors who had taught English abroad with special reference to their experience as foreigner instructors in their respective host countries. With the use of interviews as the major technique employed, this research was centered on identifying conflicts or difficulties the research participants encountered as novice instructors, both internal and external to the classroom settings of their host countries. Research findings revealed that the current participants were not adequately prepared to cope with new and unfamiliar physical settings of their host countries, or to familiarize themselves with their new classroom settings and students. Studying the various the conflicts which native EFL instructors encountered, both internal and external to the classroom environment, will hopefully shed light on, and provide a more accurate portrayal of EFL professionals' teaching overseas and may provide possible insights into potential solutions to them. Furthermore, the research findings were considered and discussed in terms of acculturation theory.

The current paper discusses the two most widespread and contradictory educational philosophies of classic German Idealism and modern American pragmatism. Their perspectives of what is truth and what is the best way to distinguish the reasoning idealists from the experienced pragmatists. The implementations of Idealism and pragmatism have affected the education process for several ages and reflect various social changes. The role of schools, educators, environment, teachers, and learners are not the same in both philosophies. However, on reviewing the chronological transmission from Plato's Idealism to Dewey's pragmatism, the resemblances and differences are elaborated here with examples. Furthermore, how these philosophies helped founding advocators for perennialism, essentialism, progressivism, and reconstructionism.

In this study we developed a framework to evaluate environmental education programs through lived experience in nature and the framework was applied to a neat case,'2001 Green Camp'. The framework consists of 4 items; goals and objectives, instructional planning, teaching and learning, methods and learning operation and environment. Learning outcomes such as changes to the levels of knowledge, attitude, participation and environmental sensitivity are not included in the evaluation framework but evaluated through direct questions to students. Two researchers observed and evaluated programs with the framework. This study reflected various perspectives of researchers, teachers, students and staff members.

본 연구에서는 과학 수업에서의 적응적 실행에 대한 과학교사의 사례와 과학 교과에서의 적응적 실행의 특징에 대한 교사의 사례를 분석하였다. 이를 위하여 전국의 중고등학교 과학교사 128명이 제시한 적응적 실행의 사례 339개와 과학 교과의 특징적인 적응적 실행 사례 199개를 분석하였다. 주요 연구 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 과학 교과의 적응적 실행의 가장 두드러진 특징은 실험과 관련된 적응적 실행이었다. 가장 많은 적응적 사례로 제시한 항목인 '추가적인 자료/활동의 제시'에서 학생들의 이해나 동기유발을 위해 시범실험을 추가하여 제시하는 것이나 두 번째로 많은 사례가 제시된 '실험기구 조작이나 탐구기능 제시'에서도 실험과 관련된 적응적 실행을 제시하였다. 또한 교사들이 응답한 과학 교과의 특징적인 적응적 실행에 대해서도 50%가 넘는 사례가 실험 지도와 관련된 내용이었다. 둘째, 수리력과 문해력 등 학습 상황에서 학생들이 겪는 어려움과 관련된 적응적 실행도 많이 제시되었는데, 과학 학습에서 도구로 사용되는 수학의 기본 능력과 관련된 사례와 한자어로 된 과학 용어의 이해와 관련된 사례가 많이 제시되었다. 셋째, '실험 지도' 이외에 '과학이론과 실세계의 연결', '과학 오개념 지도', '과학적 사고 함양', '융복합적 접근' 등을 위한 적응적 실행이 과학 교과의 특징적인 유형이었다. 넷째, 과학교사들이 제시한 적응적 실행의 사례는 학교급별로 전공별로 차이가 있어 적응적 실행과 관련된 추후 연구에서 학교급이나 전공을 고려할 필요가 있다. 다섯째, 사례수가 적은 적응적 실행 항목들은 대부분 거시적 측면에서 실행되는 적응적 실행으로 이와 연관된 전문성 향상에 관심을 기울일 필요가 있다. 추가적으로 본 연구 결과를 바탕으로 과학교육에 주는 시사점을 논의하였다.

본 연구는 개념적 혼란이 지속되고 있는 융합교육의 특성을 규명하기 위하여 융합교육의 현장경험을 가진 교사 19명을 대상으로 델파이 연구를 수행하였다. 총 3차의 델파이 연구가 실시되었으며, 융합교육의 특성으로서 핵심요인과 기대효과를 도출하였다. 융합교육의 전제 조건인 핵심요인은 학습자의 다양한 질적 경험을 위해 교육내용과 교육방식의 개방적이고 융통적인 활용을 강조하는 '교육설계', 교사, 교사-동료 간, 교사-학습자 간의 관계 속에서 발휘되는 교사의 역량을 의미하는 '교사전문성', 다양한 교육주체의 심리적 지원을 통해 융합교육을 가능하도록 하는 '교육환경'으로 유형화되었다. 융합교육의 기대효과는 '학습자의 인지적 특성', '학습자의 정의적 특성', '교사 및 교육체제' 차원에서의 변화를 포함하였으며, 융합교육이 교육 본연의 가치를 실현하는 하나의 틀로서 인식되었다. 본 연구에서 융합교육은 다수의 일반적인 학습자를 대상으로 한 교육적 가치 실현을 지향하며, 다양한 교육내용과 교육방식을 적용하고 교사의 전문성을 비롯한 관련 교육주체의 심리적 요인이 중요한 핵심요인으로 다루어진다는 특성을 나타냈다. 연구의 결과는 융합교육의 실체를 다각적인 이해의 틀을 가지고 교육 현장의 맥락에서 확인하였다는 점에서 의의를 갖는다.
