  • This study examined the effect of simulated instruction activities based on a constructivist teaching approach on epistemological belief, science teaching efficacy belief, and teaching motivation. The RTOP (Reformed Teaching Observation Protocol) played a role to guide preservice biology teachers to obtain insights on current reformed teaching and to further practice teaching based on constructivism. The results indicated that preservice teachers changed their epistemological beliefs toward more sophisticated views, especially for 'simple knowledge'. They also improved their science teaching efficacy beliefs, both personal science teaching efficacy belief (PSTEB) and science teaching outcome expectancy (STOE). In addition, these perservice teachers decreased their scores of extrinsic teaching motivation. The Pearson correlation represented the negative relationship between personal science teaching efficacy belief (PSTEB) and extrinsic teaching motivation. After intervention, the preservice teachers mentioned inquiry, active participation and discussion as ideal science teaching methods and qualifications for science teachers.

  • Purpose: The following study seeks to ascertain the motivations behind students' academic major selection and to identify the obstacles they encounter in the transition to university life, with the objective of providing information necessary to adapt well to the university and the course. Thereby, we aim to supply basic resources needed in the development of a university adaptation program to prevent academic dropout. Methods: Between October 1, 2019 and November 29, 2019, a self-administered questionnaire was distributed to a study sample consisting of students currently attending dental technology courses in Gangwondo and Gyeonggido. A total of 474 (94.8%) responses to the questionnaire were received and used for the final analysis. Results: Factors including major selection motivation, intrinsic motivation (p<0.001), academic adjustment (p<0.001), social adjustment (p<0.01), and institutional adjustment (p<0.05) all had negative relationships with academic dropout intention. Personal-emotional adjustment (p<0.001), however, showed a positive relationship with dropout intention. The explanatory power of the model was found to be 50.0%. Conclusion: This research shows that intrinsic motivation and personal-emotional adjustment diminish academic dropout intention. Therefore, it is recommended that diverse postenrolment course-adjustment programs should be developed to improve students' confidence in their choice of study, their adjustment to the course, and their level of satisfaction.

  • Although personal media have become a giant industry, there is a lack of understanding of personal media creators. Therefore, this study aims to clarify factors influencing personal media creators' choice of platform. According to the analysis, there is a significant difference between the factors considered by YouTube, AfreecaTV, and Twitch creators. Moreover, the moderating effect of creators' main genre and broadcasting type were also found to be partially significant. It was found that both creators who share the motive of vividness and communication as their main genre and creators who focus on recording and broadcasting with career development motivation prefer YouTube.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the relations between financial stress, depression, and conjugal affection and the motivation for rehabilitation. One hundred eighty-six stroke patients were included in the study and a survey with 65 questions was used. The survey includes questions to evaluate personal factors, characteristics related with physical therapy, characteristics related with disease, depression, conjugal affection, and motivation for rehabilitation. Education, employment, left hemiplegia and right hemiplegia, depression, financial stress, conjugal affection were statistically significant factors (p<.05). These variables have significant effects on motivation for rehabilitation. This study indicates that financial stress and depression need to be decreased to improve motivation for rehabilitation of stroke patients. It also indicates that the factors facilitating conjugal affection, education, and occupation need to be considered for rehabilitation programs.

  • The purpose of this study is to contribute to evidence-based nursing care for patients with chronic conditions by understanding the attributes of the health motivation concept for their health-related behaviors. Fourteen academic journals and research papers on the health-related motivation of chronically ill patients were selected according to the conceptual analysis stages of Walker and Avant, and the concept was analyzed through additional literature review. The following three factors were extracted as the attributes of health motivation of chronically ill patients: first, psychological needs for healthy behavior; second, the multidimensional state considering personal characteristics; and third, emotional strengths that can change and induce behavioral changes. Given the antecedents, attributes, and outcomes analyzed in this study, it is anticipated that the evidence-based systematic management of chronically ill patients will be possible through the application of a nursing intervention program that increases health motivation

  • This study aimed to explore the themes and parameters of environmental health behaviors based on Rogers' protection motivation theory through a systematic mapping review. Using a systematic approach, a literature review was conducted of articles that adopted Rogers' protection motivation theory. A total of 11 articles on protection motivation theory using participants and environmental health as outcomes were identified in a search of CINAHL, Cochrane Library, EMBASE, Eric, PsycARTICLES, PubMed, and RISS between September 1 and September 8, 2021. Themes related to the environment and personal behaviors between 2002 and 2021 were extracted. The parameters based on protection motivation theory were identified through systematic mapping as fear appraisal, rewards of maladaptive response, severity, vulnerability, costs of adaptive response, response efficacy, self-efficacy, and intention. Self-efficacy and response efficacy considerably affected environmental health behaviors. Emotional fear appeal related to environmental hazards motivates an internal process that alters the threat appraisal and their coping appraisal. Environmental behavior perception and intention influenced on environmental health behaviors with small effect sizes. Therefore, a deeper understanding of the severity of environmental health issues could lead to the development of helpful, effective, and intensive interventions to promote healthcare among the vulnerable population.
