  • The provision of welfare services to the disabled in Korea are still insufficient to meet the demand and the delivery system of the service is organized largely from the viewpoint of the suppliers. In order to guarantee the user right to choice, the shift of the policy paradigm supporting autonomy, self-directedness and the right to control of the users appears to be important. The present study explores the theoretical discussion in the field of the welfare of the disabled about user involvement. Then it investigates the German case of 'personal budgets' aimed to strengthen the user involvement and draws some policy implications for Korea. The study confirms that the introduction of 'personal budgets' aimed to realization of the self-determination of the disabled has contributed for the reinforcement of user involvement in welfare policies for the disabled. This new policy program 'personal budgets' based on the idea of the realization of the right to self-determination appears to transform the general nature of the welfare system for the disabled in Germany by transforming the payment methods.

  • The purpose of the study was to investigate the influences of contract foodservice managers' personal characteristics, foodservice characteristics and organizational characteristics on job satisfaction, including interpersonal relationships, self-actualization and promotion opportunity categories. A survey was administered to four hundred contract foodservice managers of five large companies and five small/medium companies in the Seoul and Kyungin areas. The final response rate was 66%(N=265), and the data were analyzed using SPSS Windows(ver. 12.0). The respondents were 76.1% female, average age 28.8 years, and 73.0% were regular workers. Contract foodservices have profit and loss contracts(69.1%), single menu types(59.6%) and buffet serving styles(37.7%). There are significant differences of job satisfaction by some personal characteristic variables(gender, martial status, age, education, position, work hours, period of working for the present company, and payroll per year) and foodservice characteristic variables(type of contract and charge of food costs). In three job satisfaction categories, foodservice managers reported the highest interpersonal relationship satisfaction, following self-actualization satisfaction and promotion opportunity satisfaction in both large companies and small/medium companies. However, foodservice managers of large companies tended to be more satisfied regarding their promotion opportunities than foodservice managers of small/medium companies(p<0.05). Work hours, number of meals served/day, male, workload, communication with the clients, relationship with co-workers, obvious role and autonomy were significant factors to increase the job satisfaction in contract foodservices of large companies. On the other hand, relationships with co-workers and males were significant factors to increase the job satisfaction in contract foodservices of small/medium companies. This research suggests that contract foodservice companies need to understand the characteristics of their managers, foodservices and organizations to enhance the job satisfaction of foodservice managers and to develop specified human resource management strategies that can be applied to each company scale.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine potential factors related to the management of cancer pain, that is, hospital institutional factors as well as personal aspects of nurses. Methods: This study was a descriptive research study in which 229 RNs working in 2 tertiary medical institutions in Seoul and 4 secondary medical institutions in Seoul, Incheon and Gyeonggi were surveyed. Results: It was found that nurses' knowledge about pain intervention, their working division and their knowledge about the use of analgesics had different effects on their pharmacologic interventions. These 3 variables explained 14.5% of the variance regarding pharmacologic interventions. On the other hand, nurses' knowledge about pain interventions and nursing organization were variables affecting non-pharmacologic interventions by the nurses. These two variables explained 22.1% of the variance regarding non-pharmacologic interventions by the nurses. Conclusion: The findings indicate that nursing organization, one of hospital institutional factors, had significant effects on non-pharmacologic interventions. Therefore, to increase effective pain management by nurses, an organizational system should be established such as placement of nurse practitioners, improvement of nurses' autonomy in pain management, and development and distribution of standardized guidelines.

  • This cross-sectional descriptive study investigated the influence of romantic relationships' characteristics, self-esteem and sexual autonomy on limerence in dating relationships among female college students who had or were currently engaged in a dating relationship. The data was collected through self-reported structured questionnaires from 167 female Korean college students using convenient sampling methods from November 25, 2012 to December 20, 2012. The data was analyzed using t-tests, one-way analyses of variance, Scheffe's test, Pearson's correlation coefficients, and multiple linear regression analysis with the IBM SPSS 23.0 program. The results showed that a significant difference was found in limerence according to the frequency of experiencing romantic breakup (F=4.16, p=.003), and limerence in dating relationships was negatively correlated with self-esteem (r=-.31, p<.001) and sexual autonomy (r=-.21, p=.006). Self-esteem and the frequency of romantic breakups explained 20% of limerence in dating relationships among the participants (F=8.03, p<.001). Therefore, as a strategy to solve the problems related to limerence during the period of dating, cognitive and educational interventions are needed to strengthen the self-esteem and sexual autonomy of college students who have had a high number of separations. In addition, early screening of college students with risk factors for limerence and providing problem-solving based counseling will help improve their psychological health.

This new type of work environment could be significantly influential in promoting organizational effectiveness of office administrators who carry out atypical types of tasks in general and are exposed to emotional labor excessively. Organizational effectiveness of office administrators could also be controlled by their concerns at work, their personal values and the increasing demand for work-life balance. The main purpose of this research is to investigate how smartwork environment perceived by office administrators is related with organizational effectiveness. In addition, this research places the focus on how concerns and work-life balance moderate the relationship between smartwork environment and organizational effectiveness. The survey was conducted among 102 office administrators, and data were analyzed by moderated multiple regression analysis method. Job autonomy of smartwork environment showed positive effect on job satisfaction, organizational commitment, and innovative behavior. IT dependence of smartwork environment showed negative effect on job satisfaction and organizational commitment and positive effect innovative behavior. It was found that concerns with impact positively moderate the effects of job autonomy on job satisfaction and innovative behavior; concerns with self negatively moderate the effects of job autonomy on organizational commitment and innovative behavior. Also, it was found that work-life balance moderates the effects of job autonomy on organizational commitment and the effects of IT dependence on innovative behavior. The result of this research can be taken into consideration when a strategic human resource development plan is prepared for office administrators in smartwork environment.

  • This study aims to study the impact of pet attachment on subjective well-being, focusing on individuals who live with pets. In addition, it is to recognize that their basic psychological requirement mediates between pet attachment and subjective well-being. For this purpose, a survey was performed on 358 adults living with pets nationwide. The final data of 319 people were evaluated after excluding invalid information. Dependent on the theoretical approach of the attachment theory, the human-pet relationship was examined by dividing it into two orthogonal dimensions pet attachment prevention and pet attachment anxiety(Zilcha-Mano et al., 2011). The mediating effects were investigated as an in-depth mechanism that mediates between pet attachment and subjective well-being, the mediating effects were examined, in terms of the three basic psychological needs of Self-Determination Theory, which are autonomy, competence, and relatedness. As an outcome, first, pet attachment prevention and pet attachment anxiety both revealed a negative correlation with subjective well-being. Second, basic psychological needs, which are autonomy, competence, and relatedness, are mediated between pet attachment and subjective well-being. Autonomy, competence, and relatedness fully mediated the relationship between pet attachment avoidance and subjective well-being. Meanwhile, in the case of pet attachment anxiety, only autonomy among basic psychological needs is fully mediated between pet attachment anxiety and subjective well-being in the case of pet attachment avoidance. This means that pet attachment prevention or pet attachment anxiety correlates with subjective well-being by satisfying basic psychological needs instead of directly affecting personal well-being. Regarding the pet effect, it is meaningful to find an in-depth mechanism that the human-pet relationship has for an adaptive and positive impact on humans.
