The Impact of Grit on University Student's Core Competency in Dental Hygiene Students

  • Background: Recently, competency-based education has been reorganized in the dental hygiene curriculum. In education, non-cognitive factors are emphasized. Grit, the non-cognitive ability to persevere to achieve an individual's long-term goals, is emerging. This study aims to identify the degree of grit and core competencies in students and to investigate the relationship between them and the factors that affect these core competencies. Methods: This study was conducted using 350 dental hygiene students who were randomly assigned a structured questionnaire to complete. The final analysis included 321 students. The survey contents evaluated grit, core competencies, and general characteristics. The difference in the degree of grit and core competencies in conjunction with the general characteristics of the subjects was analyzed using the t-test/Mann Whitney U-test and the ANOVA/Kruskal-Wallis H test. Multiple regression analysis was then conducted to determine the factors affecting the core competencies of the subjects. Results: The difference of 'grit' according to general characteristics was statistically significant in 'major satisfaction', 'relationship', 'perceived academic achievement', 'grade point average (GPA)'. The difference in 'core competency' according to general characteristics was statistically significant in 'grade', 'department selection', 'major satisfaction', 'relationship', 'perceived academic achievement', 'GPA'. Among the sub-areas of 'grit', 'perseverance of effort' showed a high correlation with 'core competency' and was statistically significant. As a result of regression analysis, 'major satisfaction', 'perceived academic achievement' and 'grit' of dental hygiene students had a statistically significant influence on 'core competency'. Meanwhile, 'GPA' was not seen to be statistically significant in 'core competency'. Conclusion: Grit, a non-cognitive factor, had a statistically significant effect on core competency, while the effects on GPA, a cognitive factor, were not statistically significant. Among the sub-factors of grit, 'perseverance of effort' had a statistically significant effect on 'problem-solving competency' and 'academic competency', which are 'core competency' sub factors.

  • 우주 행성 지반 탐사 미션은 1970년대에 활발하게 이루어졌으나 1990~2000년대에는 예산 문제로 쇠퇴기를 맞았다. 그러나 미래에 지구 자원 고갈에 대비하고 헬륨-3 및 희토류와 같이 우주에는 풍부하지만 지구에는 부족한 자원을 탐사하기 위해서는 우주 자원 탐사는 필수적이다. 또한, 우주 기술 발전은 미래 산업 발전의 원동력이 된다. 따라서 우주 자원 탐사 및 활용을 위해 최근 10년 동안 우주 행성 탐사를 위한 선진국 간의 기술 경쟁이 다시 가속화되고 있다. 이 우주 행성 자원 탐사/채굴 및 기지 건설 미션을 위해서는 지반 탐사가 필요하며 현재까지 달에 대한 탐사 미션으로는 Apollo 미션과 LUNA 미션, Chang'E 미션 등이 있고 해당 미션에서 유인 및 로버를 활용한 무인 시추 미션을 수행하였다. 화성 미션으로는 Viking, Spirit/Opportunity, Phoenix, Perseverance 미션, 소행성 탐사 미션은 하야 부사(Hyabusa) 미션이 있었다. 본 논문에서는 현재까지 수행된 우주 행성 광물 자원 탐사 기술에 대해 서술하고 향후 우리나라의 기술과제에 대하여 서술하였다.

그릿이 조직구성원의 웰빙과 자기효능감에 미치는 영향 -종합병원 간호사를 중심으로- (A Study on the Relationship Between Grit and Well-Being with the Mediation Effect of Self-Efficacy: A Case of General Hospital Nurses in South Korea)

  • 본 연구의 목적은 그릿, 웰빙, 자기효능감 간의 관계를 살펴보는데 있다. 그릿은 지속적 관심과 꾸준한 노력의 두 가지 하위차원으로 구성되어 있다. 실증분석을 위해 종합병원 간호사 237명을 대상으로 자료를 수집하였다. 수집된 데이터에 가설적 관계를 검증하기 위해 SPSS 26을 활용해 분석하였다. 그릿의 두 가지 하위차원은 웰빙에 정(+)의 영향을 미칠 것을 제안한다. 이에 본 연구는, 그릿의 지속적 관심은 웰빙에 정(+)의 영향을 미치지 않는 것으로 나타났으며, 자기효능감은 그릿의 꾸준한 노력과 웰빙 간의 관계에서 완전매개 역할을 하는 것을 확인하였다. 이에 본 연구는 그릿(grit)이 웰빙과 정(+)의 영향을 미치고 자기효능감(self-efficacy)이 그릿과 웰빙을 연결하는 중요한 변인이라는 점이 밝혀졌다. 이에 종합병원 간호사의 그릿과 웰빙의 관계에 대해 보다 면밀히 살펴보는 연구가 필요하다.

그릿(Grit)과 열정은 변별되는가? 다집단요인분석을 이용한 비교문화 연구 (Is Grit Different from Passion? Assessing Cross-Cultural Differences Through the Use of Multiple-Group Factor Analysis)

  • 본 연구는 그릿과 열정 구인이 변별되는지를 검증하고 동, 서양 문화 간 두 구인의 관계성에 차이가 존재하는지를 알아보고자 하였다. 이를 위해 한국 대학생 208명과 미국 대학생 251명을 대상으로 다집단 요인분석을 실시하였다. 분석 결과, 형태동일성과 부분측정단위동일성이 성립하여 한국과 미국 모두에서 그릿의 두 요인인 흥미의 지속성 및 노력의 꾸준함과 열정의 두 유형인 조화열정 및 강박열정 각각이 서로 잘 구별되는 것으로 밝혀졌다. 단, 미국 대학생 집단에서는 흥미의 지속성이 적응적인 조화열정과는 정적인 상관을, 부적응적인 강박열정과는 부적인 상관을 보인 반면에, 한국 대학생 집단에서는 노력의 꾸준함 뿐만 아니라 흥미의 지속성도 조화 및 강박열정 모두와 상관이 유의미하지 않았다. 이는 그릿의 개념적 정의와는 달리 한국의 대학생 집단에서는 그릿이 열정과 관련이 높지 않음을 시사한다. 이러한 결과를 바탕으로 본 연구는 그동안 개념적으로 유사함에도 불구하고 이론적으로만 설명되어 왔던 그릿과 열정 간의 변별성을 경험적으로 밝히고, 서구에서 주로 논의되어 온 그릿과 열정이 문화적 토양에 따라 가질 수 있는 차이를 확인하였다.

유아의 창의적 행동특성과 어머니의 지지적 양육행동간의 관계 (The Relationship between Young Children's Creative Behaviors and Mothers' Supportive Child-Rearing Behaviors)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the creative behavior characteristics of 4-5 year olds and to investigate the relationship between these characteristics and the mothers' supportive child-rearing behaviors. The subjects were 125 pairs of young children and their mothers in Seoul and Gyeonggi-do. The major results of this study were as follows. First, young children were rated to show uniqueness, openness, sensitivity, playfulness, and perseverance as creative behavior characteristics by their teacher. There were no significant differences between creative behavior characteristics of boys and girls. Second, the more mother used supportive child-rearing behaviors, the higher their children's creative behavior characteristics were estimated.

「발달에 적합한 실제」에 대한 유아교사의 신념과 창의적 역할과의 관계에 관한 연구 (The Relationship Between Teacher's Beliefs Regarding Developmentally Appropriate Practice and Their Creative Roles)

  • This study explored the feasibility of various applications of Developmentally Appropriate Practice (DAP) by examining the relationship between teachers' belief in DAP and their creative roles. Subjects were 203 teachers of public, private, national, and corporate day care centers in Pusan. Data analysis was by ANOVA. Results showed that with the exception of fluency, teacher's degree of belief in DAP correlated with differences in all the sub-categories of creative roles, including indulgence and perseverance, flexibility, originality, and elaboration. Conclusions were that teachers could enhance their creative roles through inclusion of DAP in teacher education.

유아의 창의성 증진을 위한 교사역할 평정척도 개발연구 (The Development of Teacher's Role Scale for Improving Young Children's Creativity)

  • The teacher's role scale for improving young children's creativity is designed for both teacher self-rating and observer rating. Content validity was determined by 5 experts who defined the domains of specific content. Construct validity was obtained by the self-ratings of 404 teachers of 3- to 5-year-old children. Five factors using 38 items of the original 59 were found to be related to the teacher's role in improving young children's creativity. The factors were Indulgence and Perseverance, Flexibility, Originality, Elaboration, and Fluency. Convergent validity was confirmed by positive correlations of the Teacher's Role Scale with the Teacher's Creativity Test of the Korean Institute for Research in the Behavioral Sciences. For internal consistency, Cronbach ${\alpha}$ of the 5 factors ranged from .74 to .88. Test-retest reliability coefficientents ranged from .653 to .838. These results confirm the Scale as a valid and reliable measure of the teacher's role in improving the creativity of young children.

노인의 자기초월 체험에 관한 연구 (The Lived Experience of Self-Transcendence of Elders)

  • This Qualitative nursing research used a hermeneutic phenomenological approach to discover meaning in an self-transcendence experience. The ultimate aim of the inquiry was to discover the essence of self-transcendence experience and to promote understanding. The study used van Manen's Methodology of phenmonological research. Multiple strategies for data collecting were utilized : in depth face-to-face interview and analysis of elders' literature. The following themes of experience emerged : Accepting becoming older as a natural phenomenon, transferring to one's own sons' and daughters' oriented life. Maintaining harmonious relationship with neighbors and peer, observing real situations with silence, forming internal integrity with perseverance, compromising own's real situation, actualizing one's death, giving up roots of life, depending on God and conforming to human limitation. From this study essential themes for understanding self-transcendence experience and needs for continuing inquiry were identified.

한국과 베트남의 무역 및 투자협력 증진방안에 관한 연구 (Strategies for Promoting Trade and Foreign Direct Investment between Korea and Vietnam)

  • This paper suggests several strategies for promoting Trade and Foreign Direct Investment cooperation to the Korean government and companies as follows ; For Korean government, its trade policy would be given much weight on the import from the Vietnam in the early developing stage. This import could be compensated and increased with the counter export of Korean products like the industrial goods. For Korean companies, they would make haste to invest and develop the abundant energy and natural resources in Vietnam. Their desirable strategies would be moving small scale projects into large ones, production partnerships with the foreign developed and experienced companies, and international joint ventures for using inward FDI incentives. The long range vision and perseverance are indispensable for promoting trade and foreign direct investments between and Korea and Vietnam and both parties' win-win results and development in the end.

The Role of Sungkyunkwan during the Joseon Dynasty and Implications for Modern Education in South Korea

  • The present study has investigated and explored the role of Sungkyunkwan during the Joseon Dynasty and implications for modern education in South Korea using numerous literature dataset, such as google Scholar, Scopus, Web of Science. Sungkyunkwan had a significant role in the Joseon dynasty's academic, social and political life. They were known as Sungkyunkwan scholars and were the elite group with a significant controlling influence over the governmental structure. In addition, they influenced policy-making, judiciary, and culture preservation through their understanding and application of Confucianism. More specifically, the Sungkyunkwan graduates were appointed to serve in many administrative capacities in Hanyang and other city provinces, spreading the culture and beliefs of Sungkyunkwan throughout the kingdom. According to the prior study, South Korea faces the issues of modernity; however, the approaches brought by Sungkyunkwan and the concept of education that was adopted still have their relevance. Education in modern Korean society is closely connected with scholars; schools and universities are built to cultivate brilliant individuals with solid morals and values for society. The spirit of Sungkyunkwan, which is about diligence, perseverance, and ethical conduct, is still rooted in the Korean educational system.
