  • Recently the centrifuge test has been used increasingly to clarify a problem of seepage in dam. However, one of the most difficult challenges in the testing is to conform permeability properties of model ground to the prototype. In order to resolve the problem, a few solutions, such as an increase of pore water viscosity and a regulation of water permeability, are suggested. Although the use of prototype materials is principles if a model test is carried out, the materials of similarity gradation is used in the centrifuge model test because of the nature of the model test for dam. Therefore, we choose the latter method for model ground materials. In this study, the permeability properties of soil-bentonite mixtures are studied through the permeation test using triaxial compaction test apparatus.

  • The thermal dissipation performance of sintered heat pipes is usually determined by the capillarity and permeability of the Cu powder wicks. Since the capillary provided by the Cu powder is usually large enough to draw water from the condenser end to the evaporator end, the permeability has become the controlling factor. In this study, Cu powders with different particle sizes and shapes were loosely sintered, and their permeabilities were compared. The results show that more complicated shapes, finer particle sizes, lower porosities, and rougher pore surfaces give lower permeability and thermal dissipation.

Si 결합 다공성 탄화규소의 미세구조 및 통기도 특성 -카본 함량 변화 중심 (Microstructure and Permeability Property of Si Bonded Porous SiC with Variations in the Carbon Content)

  • The achievement of high gas permeability is a key factor in the development of porous SiC ceramics for applications of hot gas filter, vacuum chuck, and air spindle. However, few reports on the gas permeability of porous SiC ceramics can be found in the literature. In this paper, porous SiC ceramics were fabricated at temperatures ranging from $1600^{\circ}C$ to $1800^{\circ}C$ using the mixing powders of SiC, silicon, carbon and boron as starting materials. In some samples, expanded hollow microspheres as a pore former were used to make a cellular pore structure. It was possible to produce Si bonded SiC ceramics with porosities ranging from 42% to 55%. The maximum bending strength was 58MPa for the carbon content of 0.2 wt% and sintering temperature of $1700^{\circ}C$. The increase of air permeability was accelerated by addition of hollow microsphere as a pore former.

이중 기공구조를 갖는 다공질체의 제조 (Fabrication of Double-layered Porous Materials)

  • 표면층과 내부간의 기공구조가 다른 다공질체를 제조하기 위해 입자크기가 다른 두 종류의 분체를 이용하여 다공질 성형체를 제조하였다. 두 층간의 소결 수축율을 동일하게 제어하기 위해 성형밀도 변화에 따른 소결밀도 변화를 예측할 수 있는 Ford's equation을 도입하여 소결 수축율을 동일한 조건을 구하였다. 제조된 다공질체는 미세구조와 통기도를 조사함으로서 기공의 이중 구조화 여부를 평가하였다. SEM 관찰결과 기공크기가 다른 두 층으로 구성되어 있는 것을 확인하였다. 각 층의 통기도는 출발 입자크기와 기공율이 클수록 증가하였으며, 이중 기공구조를 갖는 시편의 통기도는 기공크기가 작은 층의 특성에 의존하였다.

  • In this paper in order to analyze the mechanical properties, the permeability and the freezing properties of SB-2 materials which are mainly used with the subbase materials on the rod. For this ends, a series of the physical test, the permeability test and the freezing test were carried out the samples mixed the small aggregate and the big aggregate from which was re-classified the SB-2. From the test results, it was analyzed the characteristics of permeability and the characteristics of freezing of the samples.

Effects of the Nitrile Group Substitution on the Gas Separation Properties of Aromatic Polyamide Membranes

  • The effects of nitrile group substitution onto aromatic polyamide backbone on the gas permeability and permselectivity of the polymers are examined. The gas permeability of aromatic polyamides increase with increasing the content of nitrile group substitution, whereas the permselectivity decreases with increasing the nitrile group contents. The effects of chain linrearity on the permeability and permselectivity are also examined. The non-linearity of the polymers increases the permeability. These behaviors are interpreted in terms of chain packing and crystallinity of the aromatic polyamides.

Analysis of Magnetic Permeability Spectra of Metamaterials Composed of Cut Wire Pairs by Circuit Theory

  • Retrieving the equivalent electromagnetic parameters (permittivity and permeability) plays an important role in the research and application of metamaterials. Frequency dispersion of magnetic permeability has been theoretically predicted in a metamaterial composed of cut wire pairs (CWP) separated by dielectric substrate on the basis of circuit theory. Magnetic resonance resulting from antiparallel currents between the CWP is observed at the frequency of minimum reflection loss (corresponding to absorption peak) and effective resonator size can be determined. Having calculated the circuit parameters (inductance L, capacitance C) and resonance frequency from CWP dimension, the frequency dispersion of permeability of Lorentz like magnetic response can be predicted. The simulated resonance frequency and permeability spectra can be explained well on the basis of the circuit theory of an RLC resonator.

Effects of the Pore Size of Graphite on the Mechanical Properties and Permeability of a Porous Nozzle for Continuous Casting Process

  • To analyze the effect of the pore size of graphite in a pore-forming agent, graphite was added to porous ceramics of $Al_2O_3-SiO_2-ZrO_2$ systems. The graphite had 45~75, 100~125, 150~180, and 75~180${\mu}m$ dimensions. The properties of the ceramics, such as apparent porosity, density, dynamic elastic modulus, mechanical strength, and permeability, were investigated. The average pore size increased from 15.35${\mu}m$ to 22.32${\mu}m$ with the increase of the graphite size. The sample with the largest average pore size showed the highest mechanical strength and gas permeability. This was due to the sample with the largest pore size at the same porosity having fewer pores and larger distance between the pores than the sample with the smallest pore size, making cracks less likely to propagate. In addition, the large pore size reduced the repulsive power originating from the drag force between the gas and internal pore walls.

  • Amorphous IZO films were deposited on PET substrate by DC magnetron sputtering without substrate heating. In order to investigate effect of reactive gas addition on film properties, 0.2-0.4% of $H_2$ or $O_2$ gas was introduced during the deposition. Deposited IZO films were evaluated with mechanical property, electrical property, and water permeability. In the case of $H_2$ gas addition, mechanical property showed clear degradation compared to $O_2$ gas. In the case of $O_2$ gas, water permeability of the IZO film was increased compared to $H_2$ gas which could be attributed to the low adhesion of the film caused by bombardment of high energy negative oxygen ion. As a result, it is confirmed that water permeability of the film could be strongly affected by adhesion of the film.

  • There were no cases to use CJM Grouting to Reduce the Permeability of open-cut in Alluvium adjacent to Han River. In this paper, the applicability of CJM Grouting to Reduce the Permeability in Alluvium is reasonably estimated by in-situ Permeability test and coring. It is known that the range of improvement is decided by injection pressure, time of high pressure water and by slump, injection pressure of injection materials.
