  • In this paper, CPM(controlled-permanent magnet)-type magnetic levitation system design is presented. The target plant to be controlled consists of eight magnets with permanent magnet and electromagnet. The design procedure is also described and the result of this work is shown.

  • In this paper, maximum torque per current ratio of the interior permanent magnet synchronous machines including compensation of Ne-Fe-B magnets in negative temperature sensitivity is described. This compensation can be achieved by measuring of motor temperature only.

  • This paper deals with the magnetic equivalent circuit modeling and permanent magnet (PM) performance evaluations of a pole changing memory motor (PCMM). We use a coupled transient finite element method (FEM) and Preisach modeling, which is presented to analyze the magnetic characteristics of the permanent magnets. The focus of this paper is on the evaluation of characteristics such as the magnetizing direction and the pole number of the machine under re- and de-magnetization conditions.

  • In this research, MFL inspection system has been studied for the inspection of storage tank floor. The reference specimens having 20%, 40%, 60% and 80% slot's are fabricated using the carbon steel plates of a 6mm and 10mm thick. Powerful permanent magnets and Hall effect sensors are used to this application. Also, this paper presents a newly developed MFL scanning system. Conclusively, it is shown that our system is able to detect metal loss like a slot.

  • In a recent as the compact and the precision motor is needed, the use of rare earth permanent magnet with high energy product is frequent. Accordingly it is important to reduce the cogging torque for improving the control precision of motor. In order to develop the motor with low cogging torque which is contented with the requirement of customer, the prototype is designed and complete based on analysis method to reduce the cogging torque. The experimental results verify the validity.

  • The detent force of a permanent magnet linear motor(PMLM) consists of the end force and cogging force, and should be reduced for high precision purpose applications. The cogging force comes from the electromagnetic interaction between the permanent magnets and interior teeth(or the slots) of the stator, and of which the magnitude depends on the ratio of the numbers of the armature and permanent magnet poles as well as the geometrical shape of the permanent magnet and armature pole. In order to reduce the cogging force of a PMLM, this paper proposes a new configuration which has 9 permanent magnet poles and 10 armature winding slots. By theoretical investigation of the principle of cogging force generation and simulating using finite element method, the proposed PMLM configuration is proven to give much less cogging force than the conventional configuration which has 8 permanent magnet poles and 12 armature winding slots. A proper winding algorithm, modified (A, A, A) winding method, for the proposed configuration is also suggested when the proposed PMLM is operating as a 3 phase synchronous machine. A theoretical and numerical calculation shows that the proposed configuration makes slightly bigger back-emf and thrust force under same exciting current and total number of winding turns condition.

  • Nd-Fe-B permanent magnets have been utilized on various industrial fields such as electric vehicles, generator, robots with actuator, etc, due to their outstanding magnetic properties even 10 times better than conventional magnets. Recently, there are many researches that report magnetic properties improved by controlling microstructure through adjusting alloying elements or conducting various processing. Especially, post-sintering annealing (PSA) can significantly improve the coercivity by modifying the distribution and morphology of Nd-rich phase which formed at grain boundaries. In this study, Nd-Fe-B sintered magnets were subjected to primary heat treatment followed by secondary heat treatment at 460℃, 500℃, and 540℃ to investigate the changes in microstructure and magnetic properties with the secondary heat treatment temperature. EBSD analysis was conducted to compare anisotropic characteristics. Through the SEM and TEM observation for analyzing the morphology and distribution of Nd-rich phase, we investigated the relationship between microstructure and magnetic properties of sintered Nd-Fe-B magnets.
