One of the fundamental issues in the design of dynamic spectrum access policy is the modeling of the dynamic behavior of channel occupancy by primary users. Under a Markovian modeling of channel occupancy, a periodic sensing and greedy access policy is known as one of the simple and practical dynamic spectrum access policies in cognitive radio networks. In this paper, the primary occupancy of each channel is modeled as a discrete-time alternating renewal process with generally distributed on- and off-periods. A periodic sensing and greedy access policy is constructed based on the general channel occupancy model. Simulation results show that the proposed policy has better throughput than the policies using channel models with exponentially distributed on- or off-periods.
Periodic disturbance compensators are widely used in track following servo systems. They are commonly designed and implemented by adaptive feedforward compensators or internal model based compensators. In track following servo systems, the gains of the compensators should be determined considering the change of the sensitivity transfer function and the implementation methods should be selected considering the system environment. This paper proposes a guide for determining gains of the periodic disturbance compensators. Various simulation and experimental results are presented to see the effect of gains. In addition, this paper introduces the various types of implementation methods and compares their merits and demerits.
The breaking phenomenon of regular periodic waves generated by a numerical wave maker is simulated by finite-difference method which can cope with strong interface motions. The air and water flows are simultaneously solved in the time-marching solution procedure for the Navier-Stokes equation. A density-function technique is devised for the implemenation of the interface conditions. The accuracy is examined and applied to the simulation of two-dimensional breaking phenomena of periodic gravity waves.
The recently-developed off-line learning control approaches for the rejection of periodic disturbances utilize the specific property that the learning system tends to oscillate in steady state. Unfortunately, the prior works have not clarified how closely the learning system should approach the steady state to achieve the rejection of periodic disturbances to satisfactory level. In this paper, we address this issue extensively for the class of linear systems. We also attempt to remove the effect of other aperiodic disturbances on the rejection of the periodic disturbances effectively. In fact, the proposed learning control algorithm can provide very fast convergence performance in the presence of aperiodic disturbance. The effectiveness and practicality of our work is demonstrated through mathematical, performance analysis as well as various simulation results.
As the disk in the ODD rotates, disturbances acting on the ODD servo system generally have periodic components. Such disturbances can make the system unstable and make the controller hard to work. The repetitive controller can be the solution of the periodic disturbances by making the periodic control signals. In this paper repetitive controller is proposed that make the control signal follow the periodic disturbances. A low pass filter, which can make the system stable, is proposed by the simple stability conditions. We will show the performance of the repetitive controller in actual commercial system. Simulation and experimental results will be given as the evidences
In many cases, periodic noise occurs because most applications include motors, compressors and so on which have reciprocating motion. The noise usually contains tones at the fundamental frequency and at several higher harmonic frequencies in practice. For this type of noise, we developed a frequency-domain active noise control algorithm and determined that it's effective. However, the performance deteriorated for quasi-periodic noise. In this paper, we develop compensated frequency-domain active noise control algorithm for quasi-periodicity. And then, we implement computer simulation and compare the performance.
In this paper, a dynamic GTS allocation method of wireless control networks is proposed for the use of factory automation using IEEE 802.15.4 MAC protocol. A superframe of IEEE 802.15.4 is applied to the transmission method of real-time periodic I/O data of wireless control systems within the limited time in factory environment. The method is proposed for efficient transmission of real-time periodic I/O traffic. The simulation results show the average network utilization and available I/O node numbers could be increased by the proposed method.

In order to understand the flow behavior of Electrorheological (ER) fluid, dynamic simulation has been intensively performed for the last decade. When the shear flow is applied, it is easy to carry out the simulation with relatively small number of particles because of the periodic boundary condition. For the squeezing flow, however, it is not easy to apply the periodic boundary condition, and the number of particles needs to be increased to simulate the ER system more realistically. For this reason, the simulation of ER fluid under squeezing flow has been mostly performed with some representative chains or with the approximation that severely restricts the flow geometry to reduce the computational load. In this study, Message Passing Interface (MPI), which is one of the most widely-used parallel processing techniques, has been employed in a dynamic simulation of ER fluid under squeezing flow. As the number of particles used in the simulation could be increased significantly, full domain between the electrodes has been covered. The numerical treatment or the approximation used to reduce the computational load has been evaluated for its validity, and was found to be quite effective. As the number of particles is increased, the fluctuation of the normal stress becomes diminished and the prediction in general was found to be qualitatively In good agreement with the experimental results.
Optimal feeding strategies in bioreactor operation of Scutellaria baicalensis G. plant cell culture were investigated to maximize the production of flavone glycosides by using a structured kinetic model which can predict culture growth and flavone glycosides synthesis in a rigorous, quantitative manner. For the production of baicalin and wogonin-7-0-GA, the strategies for glucose feeding into Scutellaria baicalensis G. plant cell culture were proposed based on the model, which are a periodic fed-batch operation with maintenance of cell viability and of specific production rate respectively, and a perfusion operation with maintenance of specific production rate for baicalin and wogonin-7-0-GA. Simulation results showed that the highest volumetric concentration of flavone glycosides was obtained in a periodic fed-batch operation with maintenance of cell viability among all the suggested strategies. In the periodic fed-batch operations, the higher volumetric production of flavone glycosides was achieved compared with that in the perfusion operation. It can be concluded that a periodic fed-batch operation with maintenance of cell viability would be the optimal and practical operating strategy of Scutellaris baicalensis G. plant cell culture for the production of flavone glycosides.
