Zero-crossings with Peak amplitudes (ZCPA) model motivated by human auditory periphery was proposed to extract reliable features form speech signals even in noisy environments for robust speech recognition. In this paper, the performance of the ZCPA model is further improved by incorporating conventional speech processing techniques into the model output. Spectral and cepstral representations of the ZCPA model output are compared, and the incorporation of dynamic features with several different lengths of time-derivative window are evaluated. Also, comparative evaluations with other front-ends in real-world noisy environments are performed, and result in the superiority of the ZCPA model.

This paper proposes a method for expensive black box optimization using radial basis functions (RBFs). The proposed algorithm is a computational strategy that uses a RBF model approximating the expensive black box function to predict an optimum. First, a RBF-based approximation technique is introduced and a sampling plan for estimation of the black box function is described. Then the proposed algorithm is explained, which presents the pseudo-codes for implementation and the detailed description of each step performed in the optimization process. In addition, numerical experiments will be given to analyze the performance of the proposed algorithm, by investigating computation accuracy, number of function evaluations, and convergence history. Finally, geometric distance problem as application example will be also presented for showing the algorithm applicability to different engineering problems.

With today's global environmental and energy problems, high expectations exist for solar power generation to reduce carbon dioxide generated by the consumption of fossil fuels. On the other hand, power consumption in residential homes is increasing every year. Among the many household appliances, the power demand for air conditioners increases dramatically during the summer, particularly in the afternoons. As this pattern closely matches the output pattern of solar cells, it should be possible to combine a photovoltaic array with an air conditioner to decrease the energy consumption within the home. We have developed a residential solar-powered air conditioner that operates through a combination of photovoltaic array and commercial power. In this paper, the configuration and specification of the residential solar-powered system are described to a novel high efficiency inverter using a ZVCS boost converter. And the performance evaluations of the solar-powered air conditioner are examined by the analysis of a new tracking controller with a maximum power $P_{max}$ detection of solar cell.

This paper presents an instantaneous space vector modulated voltage source type three-phase soft-switching PFC rectifier using a single auxiliary resonant DC Link snubber for alternative energy utilizations. in the first place, the operating principle of an active auxiliary resonant DC link snubber circuit is described including its unique features. In the next place, the simulation analysis of three-phase soft-switching PWM rectifier is implemented, and the operating performances or the three-phase voltage-fed PWM rectifier treated here, which can operate under the conditions of sinewave line current shaping and utility power factor are evaluated and discussed on tile basis of this simulation results.

An alternative solution to the problem of obtaining acceptable performances on a fading channel is the diversity technique, which is widely used to combat the fading effects of time-variant channels. The symbol error probability of M-ary DPSK(MDPSK), PSK(MPSK) and QAM(MQAM) systems using 2 branches from the branch with the largest signal-to-noise ratio(SNR) at the output of L-branch selection combining(SC), i.e., SC2 in frequency- nonselective slow Nakagami fading channels with an additive white Gaussian noise(AWGN) is derived theoretically. These performance evaluations allow designers to determine M-ary modulation methods for Nakagami fading channels.

문서 이미지 처리에서 텍스트 블록의 수평화 프로세스는 문서 인식 솔루션을 위한 전처리 단계로서 많은 연구가 진행되고 있다. 이 논문에서는 텍스트 이미지 블록의 직교각 속성과 형태 모멘트에 후프 변환을 적용하여 경사진 텍스트 블록을 원래 문서의 텍스트와 수평화된 텍스트 이미지로 변환하는 효율적인 방식을 제안한다. 실험을 통하여 제안된 방식의 비교 성능 결과를 보인다.

Microgrid is a small-scale power system composed of distributed generators, energy storage system and loads, and can operate in the grid-connected mode and the islanded mode. This paper presents optimal design procedures for remote microgrid. The design program is based on the economic evaluations including the feasibility study module, optimal combination and allocation of DER, power network design and the reduction of the GHG emmission. This program which is suggested in this paper shows good performance as a tool of remote microgrid design.

본 논문에서는 휴대인터넷 기술을 이용한 P2P 망 설계 및 다자간 VoIP 서비스제공 방안을 제안하였다. 본 논문에서는 이러한 서비스를 실시간으로 제공하기 위해서 휴대인터넷 기술을 이용하여 음성서비스의 가능성을 확인하였다. 연구결과 휴대인터넷 망에서 P2P을 이용한 VoIP 서비스 망을 설계하고 성능평가를 실시한 결과 만족할 만한 연구 결과가 나타나 향후 서비스를 하게 될 휴대인터넷에서 활용 가능성을 예상할 수 있었다.

This paper presents the application of response surface methodology (RSM) to design optimization for two types of synchronous reluctance motors (SynRMs); one has 12 slots with distributed winding, and the other has 6 slots with concentrated winding, to improve the ratio between torque ripple and average torque. The usefulness of RSM in optimization problem of SynRM is verified as compared with the results of finite element analysis. In the end, the optimized two SynRMs are compared with SynRM currently used in air-conditioning compressor in connection with torque performance and loss.

At recent, the Internet is evolving into the directions which is capable of incorporating stream-type services such as voice and video services due to the remarkable growth of WWW service and the development of new multimedia application services. However, the existing Internet can only support a best-effort delivery model and thus it is difficult to satisfy these requirements as well as to provide the QoS beyond a certain degree. Accordingly, it is imperative to develop QoS-based routing algorithm in order to allow flexible routing by the Internet user's QoS demand and to be applied into wide area networks. In this paper, we presented new routing algorithms for next generation Internet services and made performance evaluations. The proposed algorithms allow the routing by the user's QoS demand level in order to provide the diverse Internet application services based on ATM network environment that is expected to play a role as an infrastructure of next Generation Internet Services.
