The aim of the present study is to investigate the buckling strength of plates and stiffened panels with opening under transverse thrust and shear actions. It is observed that the existing design formulation for critical-buckling strength of plates are not valid for perforated plates, because the current design formulation trends can significantly overestimate or underestimate the load-carrying capacity of plates when plates have large opening and/or are thick. A series of eigen value and elastic.plastic large deflection finite element analyses are carried out with varying the aspect ratio of plate, the opening size and location on plate until and after the ultimate strength is reached. Based on the results obtained from the present study, closed-form design formulations for the elastic buckling strength of plates and stiffened panels with opening are derived. The derived design formulations are considered plasticity correction of the material and verified by experimental tests and results of nonlinear finite element computations.
A BEM program is developed for the performance analysis of axisymmetric mufflers. In the program the sub-region method is used to deal with singularity or inner boundary. The program is applied to typical axisymmjetric mufflers such as simple expansion, extended tube, perforated tube and absorptive expansion sufflers. The transmission losses of the mufflers are calculated by the program and compared with experiments. It is found that the prediction is in a good agreement with measurement, except for the absorptive muffler with parallel lining.

The buckling of the perforated web of a simply supported Η-section beam subjected to uniformly distributed load is examined by means of the finite element method. With buckling analysis results, the effect of this hole on the load carrying capacity of the beam with dimensions L/h = 11 and 13 ( L = span length h = web depth) is investigated. The parameters whose variation have been considered are hole size and location. It can be generally concluded that the buckling of the perforated web of an H-section beam is not affected seriously by the location of the perforation.

A perforated shear connector group is commonly used to transfer shear in steel-concrete composite structures when the traditional shear stud connection is not strong enough. The multi-hole perforated shear connector demonstrates a more complicated behavior than the single connector. The internal force distribution in a specific multi-hole perforated shear connector group has not been thoroughly studied. This study focuses on the load-carrying capacity and shear force distribution of multi-hole perforated shear connectors in steel-concrete composite structures. ANSYS is used to develop a three-dimensional finite element model to simulate the behavior of multi-hole perforated connectors. Material and geometric nonlinearities are considered in the model to identify the failure modes, ultimate strength, and load-slip behavior of the connection. A three-layer model is introduced and a closed-form solution for the shear force distribution is developed to facilitate design calculations. The shear force distribution curve of the multi-hole shear connector is catenary, and the efficiency coefficient must be considered in different limit states.

Ship have cutout inner bottom and girder and floor etc. Ship's structure is used much, and structure strength must be situated, but establish new concept when high stress interacts sometimes fatally the area. There is no big problem usually by aim of weight reduction, a person and change of freight, piping etc.. Because cutout's existence grow up in this place, and elastic buckling strength by load causes large effect in ultimate strength. Therefore, stiffened perforated plate considering buckling strength and ultimate strength is one of important design criteria which must examine when decide structural concept at initial design. Therefore, md, reasonable buckling strength about stiffened perforated plate need to ultimate strength limited design . Calculated ultimate strength varied several web height and cutout's dimension, and thickness in this investigated data. Used program(ANSYS) applied F.E.A code based on finite element method

An acoustical shape optimization problem is formulated for optimal design of a perforated reactive muffler with offset inlet/outlet. The mean transmission loss value in a target frequency range is maximized for an allowed pressure drop value between an inlet and an outlet. Partitions in the chamber are divided into several sub-partitions, whose lengths are selected as design variables. Each sub-partition has the same number of holes, whose sizes are equal. A finite element model is employed for acoustical and flow analyses. A gradient-based optimization algorithm is used to obtain an optimal muffler. The acoustical and fluidic characteristics of the optimal muffler are compared with those of a reference muffler. Validation experiment is carried out to support the effectiveness of our suggested method.

In the reactive concentric resonator, perforated inner tubes are widely used for various purposes related to noise reduction, flow guiding, and structural aspects. Perforation distribution patterns influence both the acoustic performance and mechanical performance. In this study, the influence of distribution patterns on acoustic performance are explained by adopting the concept of extended inlet/outlet length. Predicted transmission with varying extended inlet/outlet length is compared with prediction by varying distribution patterns. The transmission loss difference due to perforation distribution patterns can be explained by changing the extended inlet/outlet length of the uniformly perforated resonator.
Stress concentration is an interesting and essential field of study, as it is the prime cause of failure of structural parts under static load. In the current paper, stress and strain concentration factors in unidirectional functionally graded (UDFGM) plate with central circular cutout are predicted by carrying out a finite element study on ANSYS APDL platform. The present study aims to bridge the lacuna in the understandings of stress analysis in perforated functionally graded plates. It is found that the material variation parameter is an important criterion while designing a perforated UDFGM plate. By selecting a proper material variation parameter and direction of material gradation, the stress and strain concentrations can be significantly reduced.
This study presents free vibration analyses of perforates steel plates with various cutouts. Four different parameters (shape, size, curvature radius ratio, and rotation of cutouts) were considered to investigate the effects of those parameters on the free vibration characteristics, such as natural frequencies of the perforated steel plates. Three different shapes of cutouts are circle, square, and triangle, and the considered sizes are 5, 10, 15, 20, and 25 mm. For the triangular and square cutouts, the characteristic radii of the inscribed circles of those cutouts were defined. In addition, the curvature radius ratio was defined as the ratio of curvature radius of bluntness and the characteristic radius. Then, total seven different curvature radius ratios (0, 0.1, 0.3, 0.5, 0.7, 0.9, and 1) were considered. To investigate the rotation effect of the cutouts, it was considered four rotations ($0^{\circ}$, $15^{\circ}$, $30^{\circ}$, and $45^{\circ}$) for the square cutouts and three rotations (0, 15, and 30) for the triangular cutouts. All the free vibration analyses were conducted using a general purpose finite element program. From the analyses we found that the most influential parameter for the free vibration response of the perforated plates is the size of cutout. The other factors such as the shape, curvature radius ratio, and rotation are minors; they mainly change the natural frequency as long as the size effect is accompanied.
