  • This study has been performed to investigate the risk perceptions of employees in nuclear power plants. A representative sample of 473 employees was surveyed(about 79% response rate). The questionnaire included scales on both risk perceptions of critical five hazards that could be occurring in the nuclear power plants and two psychometric attitudes. Higher risk perceptions between managers and non-managers to five hazards used in this study were entirely obtained from the managers. It was also found that the perceived higher hazards were in the following order: radiation exposure, radioactive release, explosion, fire and radioactive waste. For the controllability, higher risk perceptions to the all factors were obtained from the managers, and higher ones were non-managers in the dread.

  • In the present competitive organizational environment more organizations are implementing knowledge management initiatives to gain strategic advantage. One such initiative is that of implementing electronic knowledge repositories (EKR) which often leads to a rapid increase in the quantity of information employees have to process daily; raising concerns of employees being overloaded. This is especially true for current EKRs using distributive technology, enabling customizable individual workspaces which can result in loose knowledge structures. This paper identifies a new type of information overload (IO), extending the concept as occurring in both knowledge seekers and contributors and uses cognitive dissonance theory to provide evidence that IO can change employees' perception of EKR usage. This research paper provides the first empirical evidence that overload has no sufficient affect on EKR continuance intention directly, but has significant negative affect on the two main success measures; perceived usefulness and satisfaction of the system.

  • This paper shows that labor mobility is positively related to R&D intensity at the industry level in Korea. Different from the perception based on individual firm-level studies arguing that firms can be reluctant to R&D in fear of the job transfer of employees, firms in industries which have high job transfer of employees turn out not to reduce investment in R&D. This result is also confirmed by 2SLS regression. This result supports that, if there exist spillover effects through the job transfer of employees, job transfer can positively contribute to R&D activities.

  • From the past to the present, justice has attracted many people's attention. Most of the previous studies carried out in relation to justice are studies of the resulting variables, and there is a great advantage that they let us know about the importance of justice. However, the findings are focused only on the behavior of the members of the organization according to the status of justice already perceived. Therefore, studies on the antecedent of justice are also necessary to understand justice accurately. This study identifies the factors that can directly affect justice and the contextual factors that could moderate their relationship. In particular, using the '2017 Public Employee Perception Survey' released by the Korea Institute of Public Administration, we examined how innovative behavior of public employees affects the perception of distributive justice and how the relative professionalism, which is the situation variable, moderates the relationship between variables. A regression analysis of 321 public employees showed that innovative behavior affects the perception of distributive justice, and that the positive relationship of innovation behavior to the perception of distributive justice is weakened when the level of individual perceived relative professionalism is high.

  • Recently, there is a substantial interest in implementing Business Process Management System(BPMS) among enterprises with the purpose of business process innovation. BPMS redesigns and coordinates business processes in terms of both automated steps and human involvement in order to maximize the value of both involved people and systems. The reason why BPMS is getting attention from top managers is that it has the possibility to optimize the business processes by cycling the process of modeling, execution, monitoring, evaluation, and redesigning work processes. Thus, it has created high expectations about not only productivity improvement but also business process innovation. However. having an innovative nature, which is used for process innovation, BPMS implementation has great potential to stir up employee resistance. The analysis and the discussion about the prevention of the resistance against IS(Information Systems) is important because IS change the way people work and also alter the power structure within the organization, in general. The purpose of this study is to investigate factors that have an impact on the effective adoption of BPMS at the enterprise level. To find out these factors, this study considers two characteristics of BPMS: First. BPMS shares some characteristics with other enterprise-wide IS such as ERP. Second, it has special BPMS-specific characteristics. Due to the lack of previous research on BPMS adoption, interviews were carried out with IT-consultants and CIOs who conducted BPMS projects previously to find out BPMS-specific features that would make BPMS unique when compared to other enterprise-wide IS. As a result, the monitoring function was chosen as the main BPMS-specific factor. Thus, this paper reviewed studies both on enterprise-wide IS adoptions, which applied Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) and secondly on computer based monitoring to find out factors that would influence the employees' perception on the monitoring function of BPMS. Based on the literature review, the study suggested three factors that would have an impact on the employee's perception of the monitoring function: fairness of enterprise evaluation system, fairness of the boss, and self-efficacy of their work. Three factors that would impact the enterprise-wide IS adoption were also set: the shared belief in the benefit of BPMS, training, and communication. Then, these factors were integrated with TAM. Structural equation modeling was used to test hypotheses, out factors that would impact the employees' perception on the monitoring function of BPMS. Based on the literature review the study suggested three factors that would have an impact on the employee's perception of the monitoring function: fairness of enterprise evaluation system, fairness of the boss, and self-efficacy of their work. Three factors that would impact the enterprise-wide IS adoption were also set: the shared belief in the benefit of BPMS, training, and communication. Then, these factors were integrated with TAM. Structural equation modeling was used to test hypotheses. The data analysis results showed that two among three monitoring function related factors - enterprise evaluation system and fairness of the boss - were significant. This implies that employees would worry less about the BPMS implementation as long as they perceive the monitoring results will be used fairly for their performance evaluation. However, employees' high self-efficacy on their job was not a significant factor in their perception of the usefulness of BPMS. This is related to cases that showed employees resisted against the information systems because they automated their works (Markus, 1983). One specific case was an electronic company, where the accounting department workers were requested to redefine their job because their working processes were automated due to BPMS implementation.

  • The main objective of this study was to examine the effects of family-friendly culture in various organizations in the private sectors on employee self-reported work-family balance and qualities of lives. It also attempted to clarify whether employee perceived work-family culture would vary according to size and type of organization, gender, and dual career partnership. The data came from 365 married full-time workers employed in a wide variety of organizations located in Seoul and GyeongGi-Do. The major findings of this study were as follows: Work-family culture was perceived more family-friendly in large-sized organizations and consumer industries. Female employees and workers in dual-career partnerships perceived the work-family culture of their organizations less family-friendly. The hierarchical multiple regression analyses revealed that firm size, supervisory support for employees' family activities, and the perception of negative career development opportunities as a consequence of utilizing family-friendly policies significantly predicted employees' work-family balance and qualities of lives, while organizational time demands having no significant effects on them. The implications of study results were discussed.
