Paint booth volatile organic compounds emissions in an urban auto-repair center

  • A major concern regarding most auto-repair shops in residential areas is the emission of odorous volatile organic compounds (VOCs) into the local atmosphere, especially during painting operations. VOCs contribute to poor local air quality and are responsible for the perceived odor and discomfort experienced by local residents. Sixteen major VOCs (6 aromatic hydrocarbons and 10 aliphatic carbonyl compounds) were selected as potential target compounds. The site was an auto-repair shop located in a central region of Seoul, South Korea, where the air quality of the site has been a subject of residents' complaints. The sampling points were as follows: 1) in the painting booth with new (NB) or old (OB) removal system, (2) in the exhaust duct after new (ND) or old (OD) odor removal filter, and (3) 2 m below the discharge vent (4 m above the ground) (outdoor air, OA). Each sample was coded: (1) before painting (BP), (2) during painting (DP), and (3) after painting (AP). The toluene level in the duct with the new removal filter during painting (ND-DP) was 1.5 ppm (v/v), while it was 3.8 ppm (v/v) in the right duct with an old removal filter during painting (OD-DP). Accordingly, the effect of filter replacement was reflected by differences in VOC levels. Therefore, accurate monitoring of odorous VOCs is an important step to reduce odor nuisance from local sources.

서울시 일부 학교의 실내 공기질 조사 및 인식도 평가 (Assessment of Conscious Coginition Degree and Survey on the Indoor Air Quality at a public School in Seoul)

  • Recently, Indoor air quality(IAQ) in workplace, residential environments and schools has been concern of people, scientists and related the public. And so in Seoul has recognized the healthy effect related to IAQ in schools. Therefore, the objective of this study reported in this article were to measure and compare the perception of IAQ of selected air pollutants at three different schools in Seoul. We performed a questionnaire survey of 400 students about their awareness for the importance of IAQ in our school. And we measured the IAQ of 3 schools considering as site region, construction year and studying level. The indoor air pollutants and parameters such as temperature, relative humidity, respirable particulate matter(PM10), formaldehyde(HCHO), total bacteria counts(TBC), carbon dioxide(CO$_2$), and noise were monitored in indoors. In results, all most response of occupant has recognized the awareness of IAQ at schools. The PMIO, TBC and Noise level of all schools were higher than the standard of the public 150 ${mu}$g/m$^3$ and 500CFU/m$^3$, the level formaldehyde(HCHO) was below 0.1 ppm of the healthy guideline of Korea And the concentration of CO$_2$ were investigated below 1,000 ppm of the standard implying ventilation in 2 schools except for 1 school(c school). Finally, the control of most important pollutants of IAQ in school were PM10, TBC and Noise. Therefore, it can be concluded that the indoor air quality of selected 3 schools studied was perceived as acceptable, it is recommended that the government related IAQ was suggested the guideline and control of IAQ problems in schools, and all member relating school need to be effort to reduce the exposure of sources to undesirable indoor pollutants such as Particlate and Noise.

  • Terminal 2 of Incheon in'tl airport had made a grand opening since January 2018. Terminal 2 is currently operated by mainly Korean airline in cooperation with such skyteam members as Delta airline, Air France and Royal Dutch KLM. It is expected another three skyteam member airlines join the separate operation at terminal 2 since this coming winter. It is believed very meaningful research to analyze how separate operation of Global alliance of airlines affects the global brand image of an organization. To find out such effect, researchers have made an empirical analysis of perception of airline staffs working at terminal 2. This paper has focused on how the staffs perceive airline service quality in the changed working environment and on how significantly their perception on service has an effect on airline's global brand image with such moderating variables as organizational efficacy and organizational trust. According to empirical analysis using structural equation modeling, it was proven the variable of responsiveness among perceived airline service qualities had a direct significant effect on formulating airline's global brand image associated with joint venture between Korean airline and Delta airline. However, the other variables had a indirect significant effect on global brand image with moderating effects.

새집증후군에 대한 아파트 거주자의 자각증상 및 반응 연구 (Perceived Sick Building Syndrome of Residents and their Responses in Newly Built Apartments)

  • As number of new housing construction has been growing, the increasing number of people experiencing from Sick Building Syndrome (SBS) is distinct. The purpose of this study is to examine the symptoms reported by residents responses to cope with the syndrome and to investigate their environmental characteristics considered relevant to the syndrome. Respondents were housewives living in apartments and were more likely to stay at home. 170 data were collected by both web-based internet survey and conventional questionnaire survey. The findings revealed that the symptom appeared very diverse and composite. The most common symptom was eye irritation. Among diverse coping behaviors, ventilation was most popular.

DARS에 의한 CAPSS 배출자료의 불확도 평가 (Uncertainty Assessment for CAPSS Emission Inventory by DARS)

  • The uncertainty assessment is important to improve the reliability of emission inventory data. The DARS (Data Attribute Rating System) have recommended as the uncertainty assessment technic of emission inventory by U.S. EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) EIIP (Emission Inventory Improvement Program). The DARS score is based on the perceived quality of the emission factor and activity data. Scores are assigned to four attributes; measurement/method, source specificity, spatial congruity and temporal congruity. The resulting emission factor and activity rate scores are combined to arrive at an overall confidence rating for the inventory. So DARS is believed to be a useful tool and may provide more information about inventories than the usual qualitative grading procedures (e.g. A through E). In this study, the uncertainty assessment for 2009 CAPSS (Clean Air Policy Support System) emission inventory is conducted by DARS. According to the result of this uncertainty assessment, the uncertainty for fugitive dust emission data is higher than other sources, the uncertainty of emission factor for surface coating is the highest value, and the uncertainty of activity data for motor cycle is the highest value. Also it is analysed that the improvement of uncertainty for activity data is as much important as the improvement for emission factor to upgrade the reliability of CAPSS emission inventory.

공동주택 유형별 친환경 마감재 사용 실태분석 연구 (Actual Use Pattern of Environment-friendly Finish Materials in Recently-Constructed and Remodeled Apartment Houses)

  • The concepts of interior design work have set forward an aesthetic and functional proposition to be answered by those who design spaces. The available range of suitable materials for interior use appears to be almost inexhaustible in this day and age. Now a day, relatively new fields of study on environmental-friendly interior examine humans'innate affinity for health and explore its implications for architecture and the built environment. A growing field of research suggests that spaces' relationship to aesthetics and environment can either help or hinder their occupants' health and wellness, productivity, and even their creativity. This paper presents several examples of already built apartment houses in practice, and discusses the demand of users of the spaces for health and sustainable environment, deepening the relationship between newly-constructed spaces and the remodeled ones. The considerations to some new and contemporary materials from the aspect of healthy indoor architecture design are presented in this paper. Designers need to rethink the conventional and high-tech interior environment in apartment houses with respect to perceived air quality, material emissions, and odors. The future of interior design is oriented on light shapeable materials which are able to create a unique memorable atmosphere. The primary assignment in accepting recent materials and proceedings is our responsibility to creating proposals, that are mainly safe, hygienic and environmentally proper.

ESG 경영이 기업의 경영성과에 미치는 영향 - 국적항공사를 중심으로 - (The Effect of ESG Activities on the Business Performance - Focused on Korean National Flag Carrier -)

  • This study aims to intensively analyze the effect of ESG activities on the Business performance focused on Korean national flag carrier. The purpose of this study is to provide ESG activities to promote the sustainable development of Korean national flag carriers by verifying the impact of ESG on airline's business performance through mediate variables within the airline industry in consideration of the value and importance of ESG. A survey is conducted with a total of 272 users of Korea's national flag carrier both Korean air and Asiana airline. The collected data is analyzed using a structural equation model. The results show that ESG management has an indirect positive effect on business performance. It is expected that the results of this study may be employed as fundamental data to emphasize the relative importance of an ESG activities, thereby enhancing the Korean national flag carrier's business management and eliciting a positive impact on sustainable growth.

The Occupant Perception and Investigation of Indoor Air Quality at Home in Seoul

  • 최근 산업장 뿐만아니라 주택에서의 실내환경오염은 대단히 중요한 관심사이다. 특히 미국 EPA에서는 성인이 하루에 약 80 % 이상을 실내 공간에서 생활하고 있는 것으로 보고하고 있으며, 이러한 생환 방식의 변화에 인한 최근 도시화 지역에서의 실내 공기질(indoor air quality)의 문제가 새로운 환경 이슈로 부각되고 있고, 일본을 비롯한 구미 각 국에서도 21세기 환경문제 중 실내환경(indoor environment) 문제를 최우선으로 다루고 있다. 그러므로 본 연구에서는 주택에서의 실내공기질을 평가하기 위하여 설문지를 통하여 인식도를 조사하고 그를 토대로 6개의 다른 주거환경을 가진 주택을 대상으로 실내공기오염도를 측정하였다. 본 연구에서 평가한 측정항목은 온도, 습도, CO, $CO_2$, 호흡성분진, 포름알데히드, 총부유세균(TBC)이었으며, 주택의 지역 및 계절별로 나누어 측정하였는데, 측정결과 호흡성분진은 주택 5,6 에서 국내의 기준을 초과하였으며, 총부유세균은 흥콩과 싱가폴의 실내기준 권고치인 $500{\;}CFU/m^3$을 초과였고, HCHO는 모든 대상 주택에서 초과하였다. 또한 통계적으로 분석한 결과 주택의 건축년도와 CO, TBC가 0.01 수준에서 유의성 관계를 나타냈으며, 습도는0.05 수준에서 유의성을 나타냈다. 또한 주택의 거주자 500인을 대상으로 조사한 설문지 결과에서는 대부분 응답자가 실내공기오염에 대하여 인식하고있으며, 실내오염으로 인해 피로>두통>눈 아픔>기침 등을 호소하고 있으며, 실내공기정화장치가 필요하다고 응답하였다. 결론적으로 본 연구의 목적은 주택에서의 실내공기질을 평가하여 실내공기질의 중요성을 인식시키고, 그에 대한 구체적인 대책방안을 제시하여 관련 기준을 준비하는데 기초적인 자료를 마련하고 주민들이 쾌적한 삶을 유지하는데 기여하고자 한다.

항공사 종사자의 안전문화 인식이 서비스 품질과 서비스 효능감에 미치는 영향 연구 : 인천국제공항지점 근무자를 중심으로 (A Study on the Effect of Airline Staff's Safety Culture to Service Quality and Service Provider Efficacy focusing on the Airline Staff working at Incheon International Airport)

  • 본 연구는 인천국제공항에서 근무하는 항공사 종사자 대상으로 그들이 승객에게 서비스를 제공하는 동안 종사자 사이에 안전문화가 제대로 정착되어 승객들에게 안전에 대한 기본사항이 제대로 전달되고 있는 지 실증 분석하고자 하였다. 항공사 종사자들이 인식하는 안전문화가 그들이 공항이용객에게 제공하는 서비스품질 인식에 어떠한 영향을 미치고 이러한 서비스품질이 궁극적으로 직원의 서비스 제공 행동(서비스 효능감)에 어떠한 영향을 미치는 지 검증하는 연구를 수행하고자 하였다. 연구자는 이상의 연구 목적을 바탕으로 항공사 직원들의 안전업무역량을 통해 궁극적으로 항공서비스의 품질도 향상시키고 항공사의 접점 서비스 직원들을 관리할 수 있는 관리자적 시사점을 제공하고자 하였다. 항공사 종사자들을 대상으로 한 실증분석 결과 안전문화 구성요인들인 보고/학습 문화와 공정문화 중 공정문화는 항공사의 서비스 품질 향상과 항공사 종사자들의 서비스 효용성 증대에 매우 긍정적인 기여를 하는 것으로 나타났다. 반면에 보고/학습 문화는 오히려 공항에서 서비스 품질 향상을 저해하고 종사자의 서비스 효용성 의지를 약화시키는 요인으로 작용할 수 있음이 파악되었다. 비록 현장에서 직원의 서비스 실수가 있더라도 필수적인 안전정보를 제공하는 행위였다면 이를 배려하고 심지어 보상까지 해주는 문화가 정착될 때 서비스 품질향상에 대한 동기부여가 될 수 있을 것이다.

도로이동오염원 배출량 산정을 위한 Bottom-Up Approach 기법의 개선에 관한 연구 (An Improvement of Bottom Up Approach for Estimating the Mobile Emission Level)

  • 교통 환경문제로 대표되는 차량의 배기가스에 의한 대기오염은 삶의 질과 국민보건에 대한 관심뿐 아니라 범세계적인 문제로 인식되고 있다. 본 연구에서는 교통수요모형과 GIS를 이용하여 도로이동오염원에 대한 시공간적 고해상도의 배출량 산정 방식을 제시하여 정부와 지자체가 효과적으로 대기 질 개선 정책을 수립 추진할 수 있는 기반을 마련하고자 하였다. 이에 차량의 통행특성을 반영하는 Bottom-Up Approach 기법을 기반으로 총 주행거리를 실측치로 보정한 교통모형과 차량의 특성에 적합한 배출계수를 적용할 수 있는 대기모형을 이용한 개선된 기법을 제시하였다. 즉, 새로운 대안으로 교통-대기 통합패러다임에 의해 이를 연계한 도로이동오염원의 배출량 산정기법을 제시함으로써, 도로이동오염원 배출량의 신뢰도 개선이 기대되어진다.
