Purpose: This study was to determine the mediator or moderator role of social support in the relationship between stress and depression among family caregivers of older adults with dementia. Method: Sixty nine family caregivers were randomly selected from health care centers in P city and a face-to-face interview was conducted using questionnaires from January to May of 2002. Data were analyzed with descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation, and hierarchical multiple regression using SPSS program. Result: Family caregivers of older adults with higher dependency in ADLs and higher problematic behaviors, provided care to the older adults for a longer period of time, and perceived less social support reported higher depression. Social support showed mediating effects between stress and depression, while did not show moderating effects. Elderly dependency on ADLs and caregiving duration decreased perceived social support and decreased social support increased depression. Conclusion: To increase family and social support to the caregivers of more functionally impaired elderly, family education to increase emotional support and physical assistance to the caregivers and broader and flexible application of social support such as increasing accessibility to the elderly daycare service with lower price may prove beneficial.

Results: For the statistical analysis, the t-test was used for the family support and parenting behaviors according to the general characteristics. The influence elicited by the instrument of parenting behavior was determined using multiple regression under the control of general characteristics. The influencing factors are mothers's affection and father's supervision, neglection and affection. Conclusion: Based on the study results, it is important father's behavior to their children especially they are regarded as father's neglect is not support them. We suggest that, for father's behavior strategies should be developed to perceive their family support.
The purpose of this study was to examine the relation of stress and perceived social supports to problem behavior during childhood, with particular emphasis on the main and stress-buffering effects of perceived social supports. Such demographic data as parents' educational level, father's job, mother's employment, family income, and child's sex and age were also in chided in the study. Statistical techniques were ANOVA, t-test, and multiple regression. Major findings were that behavior problems of children increased with children's stress and decreased by perceived social supports. Perceived social supports moderated the relation between children's stress and problem behavior. Children's stress and perceived social supports differ by educational level of parents, father's job, and family income. Behavior problems of children were differed by family income, father's educational level and job. Children's stress and behavior problems differed by sex and age in some sub-domains, but perceived social supports did not differ by children's sex and age. Perceived social support from friends was the most influential factor affecting children's problem behavior. Therefore, friends may be considered the most important source of social support that is available for adjustment and for coping with stress during childhood.

Purpose: This study was done to identify the relationship of life satisfaction, family support, physical health and demographic characteristics to perceived health, and to identify factors affecting perceived health of elderly participating in programs in welfare centers for senior citizens. Method: The research design for this study was a descriptive survey design using a convenience sampling. Data collection was done using self-questionnaire with 211 elders from 2 welfare centers for senior citizens located in Seoul. ANOVA, t-test, Pearson correlation coefficients and hierachical multiple regression with the SPSS Win 12.0 Program were used to analyze the data. Results: The mean score for degree of perceived health was 3.27$\pm$0.91. Perceived health had a significant positive correlation with life satisfaction (r= .362, p< .001), family support (r= .403, p< .001), physical health (r= .424, p< .001). The explained variance for perceived health was 37.9%. Among the variables, physical health ($\beta$= .175, p= .014), life satisfaction ($\beta$= .208, p= .002), and family support ($\beta$= .277, p< .001) significantly predicted the degree of perceived health. Conclusion: Findings of this study provide a comprehensive understanding of perceived health and related factors for elders in Korea. However, further study with a larger random sample from various living environment is necessary.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to describe perceived family support, life satisfaction, and health promoting behavior (HPB), and to identify factors influencing HPB among the elderly. Method: Study participants were 165 elderly over 65 years of age who were living in C city, Korea. The instruments included the Family Support Scale developed by Kang, Life Satisfaction Scale developed by Choi, Health Promoting Behavior Scale designed by Walker, et al. The data were analyzed using the SAS program by t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficients, and stepwise multiple regression. Results: 1. The scores for family support ranged from 11 to 55, with a mean score of 41.55. The scores for life satisfaction ranged from 0 to 40, with a mean of 22.02. The scores for HPB ranged from 40 to 160 with a mean score of 98.07. In the sub-dimensions of HPB, the participants showed the highest level of engagement in the nutrition domain, and the lowest level of engagement in the exercise domain. 2. Higher levels of family support and life satisfaction were correlated with more engagement in HPB. 3. The most influencing factor on HPB in the elderly was family support. accounting for 11% of the total variance in HPB. A combination of education level and types of living patterns accounted for 18% of the total variance in HPB. Life satisfaction accounted for 14% of the self-actualization domain, and 5% of the stress management domain, in the sub-dimensions of HPB. Conclusion: Perceived family support was identified as an important factor to predict HPB in the elderly. However, life satisfaction was identified as only partially influencing HPB among the elderly.
Purpose: This study was to assess relationships among the uncertainty, medical staff's support, and anxiety perceived by family members with cancer patients while the family members were waiting for their patients undergoing surgery. Method: The data were collected from the family members of cancer patients who were undergoing surgery in D University Hospital at B city from February 1 to April 12, 2005. The used instruments were the State Anxiety Scale of Spielberger's(1975) STAI, Mishel's Uncertainty in Illness Scale (MUIS)(1981), and Relationship Questionnaires (Lee, 1978). The collected data was analyzed by using t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's coefficients, and stepwise multiple regression. Results: As the result, the most influential variable explaining anxiety of family members was uncertainty $({\ss}=0.37)$, followed by perceived illness state $({\ss}=-0.27)$. These two variables simultaneously explained 29.3% of the variance in anxiety. Conclusion: We suggest to develop a nursing intervention program to reduce the uncertainty through the medical staff's support and o test its effects.
This study aims to explore the relationship between North Korean refugee mothers' perceived home psychological characteristics and ego-resilience of their young children focusing on moderating effect of social support. For this purpose, we sampled 96 North Korean refugee mothers with 3-5 year old children. Home psychological characteristics consisting of family strength, family environment and family functioning, social support, and ego-resilience was analyzed by Pearson correlation analyses and hierarchical regression method. The results of this study were as follows. First, there is a significant correlation between North Korean refugee mothers' perceived home psychological characteristics and ego-resilience of their young children. Second, the perceived factors by North Korean refugee mothers of home psychological characteristics explained their young children's self-resilience 73.4% of the time and social support had a significant moderating effect. These results suggest that more effective social support to North Korean refugees has to be offered. Not only financial but emotional support is also needed.
Objectives : The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between the degree of family support and the degree of satisfaction in clinical practice by dental hygiene students. Methods : In this study, convenience sampling was conducted in 272 dental hygiene students from 3 dental hygiene colleges in South Jeolla Province, from October 4 through 15, 2010. A survey was conducted by using structured questionnaires. The data was analyzed by t-test, a one way ANOVA, and Pearson correlation coefficient. Results : Family support according to general characteristics showed a significant difference by economic status(p<0.001), satisfaction of major(p<0.01), and interpersonal relationship(p<0.05). Satisfaction degree on clinical practice according to general characteristics showed a significant difference by satisfaction of major(p<0.05) and interpersonal relationship(p<0.05). The relationship between generally perceived family support correlated with the degree of satisfaction in clinical practice(r=.154, p<0.05). Conclusions : It was found that a higher degree of satisfaction in clinical practice depends on a higher degree of family support. Therefore it is required to program development to improve satisfaction level of clinical practice by family support.

The instruments used for this study were the simplified depression scale for elderly designed by Sheikh & Yesavage, the family support scale developed by Choi Young Hee, and the physical health status developed by Choi Young Hee & Jung Seng En. Data analysis included: percentage, average, SD, t-test, ANOVA, & Pearson correlation coefficiency. Participants in this study represented low level of family support but high level of physical health status and depression. There was a significant negative relation between family support and depression(r=-.755, P=.001). There was a significant relation between family support and physical health(r=.329, P=.001). There was a significant negative relation between depression and physical health status(r=-.515, P=.001). Nursing implications were suggested.
Purpose: The purpose of this study is to examine the association of family support, self-efficacy, health literacy and perceived health status with health-promoting behavior (HPB) in married immigrant women. Methods: A cross-sectional based survey was conducted to collect data from married immigrant women living in Gyeongsang province. Questionnaires included Health promoting lifestyle profile II, General self - efficacy scale, Korean Health literacy assessment and perceived health status. Results: 157 subjects participated in the study (mean age, $30.47{\pm}6.83$). Their duration of living in Korea was $63.05{\pm}50.11$ months. Of the participants, 59.2% were Vietnamese. The level of HPB, perceived health status, health literacy, support of family and self-efficacy were $2.58{\pm}0.42$, $3.39{\pm}0.86$, $25.12{\pm}20.99$, $3.83{\pm}0.70$ and $3.61{\pm}0.53$ respectively. Factors affecting the HPB of the participants were support from family (${\beta}=.45$, p<.001) and self-efficacy (${\beta}=.16$, p<.05). The explanatory power of these two variables was 34.2%. Conclusion: This study suggests that the factors influencing the HPB of married immigrant women include support from family and self-efficacy. A variety of programs should be provided for families so that they can support those women to help them increase their HPB.
