Do Gender, Types of VR Game, & Virtual Presence Matter in VR Games?

  • VR technology has become a game changer in the game industry. VR game market has increased exponentially worldwide. The current study is designed to examine effects of VR game players' gender (male vs. female), types of VR games (solo game vs. multiplayer game), and the level of perceived virtual presence (low virtual presence vs. high virtual presence) on enjoyment and intention to replay. Study findings suggest that male players, after playing VR games, showed higher enjoyment and intention to replay VR games. In terms of types of VR games, multiplayer VR games lead to higher enjoyment intention to replay than solo play games. Finally, this study found that the high level of perceived virtual presence incur higher enjoyment and intention to replay than the low level of perceived virtual presence in playing VR games. Practical implications were discussed in the last section of this paper.

  • As the 4G and 5G Internet technologies become more common and developed, an environment for uploading and watching videos is created and spread, in addition to simply uploading posts. Watching and sharing daily life among media contents called Vlog, are very common more than ever. This means that individual users could access Vlog easily and the situation could be new trend. Additionally, academic research about Volg is increasing. We analyzed three independent variables affecting a perceived enjoyment we set up the dependent variable. Information search, self-expression, and social need are set as independent variables and social interaction is set as the control variable. Information search and self-expression are significant effect to perceived enjoyment except social need. In particular, social interaction as a control variable has effect to all relationships.

Investigating the Determinants of Online Consumer Engagement on Multiplex Social Network Sites: A Value Exchange Perspective

  • This study is intended for demonstrating the impacts of different factors on the formation of online consumer engagement behavior of young Chinese moviegoer in Korea. Based on Value-Exchange Model [Itani et al., 2019], we build research model to reveal the relationships among perceived enjoyment, perceived movie information value, multiplex-audience relationship quality, multiplex usage satisfaction, and online consumer engagement through experiments on valid data we collected from 186 participants who had lived in Korea and experienced the multiplex pages of top 3 movie theaters, where Smart PLS 3.0 is the tool used for statistical analysis. The experimental results show that both perceived enjoyment and perceived movie information value positively correlate to multiplex-audience relationship quality, and multiplex audience relationship quality significantly influences multiplex usage satisfaction and online consumer engagement. In addition, it is found that relationship quality plays the role of mediator between perceived enjoyment and satisfaction. The findings from this study offer both academic and managerial implications for movie distributors who are interested in developing potential Chinese consumer market in Korea.

Perceived Enjoyment, Application Self-efficacy, and Subjective Norms as Determinants of Behavior Intention in Using OVO Applications

  • This study examines the role of perceived enjoyment, self-efficacy, and subjective norms as determinants of behavioral intention to use the OVO application. This study's target population is the users of the OVO application who have used it as an electronic transaction. This study's population was the OVO application users as an electronic transaction tool in Jember Regency. Samples were randomly selected at the time of the survey with specific criteria. The survey location is determined at the Plaza because it is a shopping center that mostly has payments at OVO partner merchants. The model empirically tested using data gathered from 150 respondents of OVO users. The research model was tested by using the structural equation modeling (SEM) approach. The results showed that all constructs in the original TAM model were statistically significant. Subjective norm has a positive effect on perceived usefulness, and perceived enjoyment positively affects perceived ease of use of OVO applications. On the other hand, applications' self-efficacy does not affect the perceived ease of using OVO applications for electronic transactions. This condition shows that subjective norms are dominant external individual perspectives compared to self-efficacy, which are personal internal characteristics in determining the behavioral intention of using OVO applications in electronic transactions.

Factors Influencing Work-Related Use of Smartphones: An Empirical Investigation

  • This paper touches the limitations of existing theories related to technology acceptance, which mainly focus on users' perceived ease of use and usefulness, and proposes the role for sensory capabilities and enjoyment in understanding smartphone use. Furthermore, we develop a model that explains smartphone usage and intention to use it for a task and analyzes 442 questionnaire survey responses of smartphone users. First, perceived usefulness, perceived sensory capability, and perceived enjoyment influenced smartphone usage. Second, we found that both perceived usefulness and smartphone use were significantly associated with users' intention to utilize the smartphone for their job-related tasks. Finally, both perceived sensory capability and enjoyment were found to be more powerful factors than ease of use in explaining smartphone use. From the study findings, implications and future research directions are also discussed.

Effects of the Perceived Usefulness and Perceived Enjoyment of YouTube Use on Academic Adjustment of College Students in Distance Education due to COVID-19: Focusing on Compulsive YouTube Usage

  • The goal of this study is to investigate how YouTube use motivation such as perceived usefulness and perceived enjoyment affect the compulsive YouTube usage and academic adjustment of college students. To this end, a research model was established and 113 response data obtained by conducting a questionnaire survey on college students in Seoul were used for structural model analysis. The results of this study can be summarized as following. First, perceived usefulness has a positive effect on academic adjustment. Second, compulsive YouTube usage has a negative effect on academic adjustment. Third, perceived enjoyment was identified as a factor that plays a role like pharmakon. The findings suggest the necessity of learning strategies that control the degree of perceived enjoyment as well as the instrumental use of perceived usefulness in order to improve the academic adjustment of college students.

Effect of Perceived Value of OTT Platform on Consumer's Technology Acceptance, Continuous Use Intention, and WOM

  • Purpose: This study analyzed the effect of the perceived value of the OTT platform on consumers' technology acceptance, continuous use intention, and WOM using the Expanded TAM. Research design, data and methodology: A survey was conducted targeting OTT platform users in their 20s to 40s nationwide from August 10 to 16, 2022, and a total of 208 people were used in the final analysis. To verify the research model, frequency analysis, CFA, and SEM analysis were performed using SPSS and AMOS. Results: First, the perceived value of the OTT platform was found to have a positive effect on consumers' technology acceptance (perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use, and perceived enjoyment). Second, the perceived ease of use of OTT platform consumers was found to have a positive effect on perceived usefulness and perceived enjoyment. Third, it was found that the perceived usefulness and perceived enjoyment of OTT platform consumers had a positive effect on the continuous use intention, and WOM. Fourth, it was found that the continuous use intention the OTT platform had a positive effect on the WOM. Conclusions: Word of mouth and continuous use of existing customers are important for OTT platform companies to retain existing customers and secure new customers. Through the perceived value of the OTT platform, efforts should be made to provide various contents that consumers can enjoy along with usefulness and convenience of functions.

An Integrated Framework for Modeling the Influential Factors Affecting the Use of Voice-Enabled IoT Devices: A Case Study of Amazon Echo

  • Purpose: The application of IoT is finding continuous acceptance in our daily lives, particularly, smart speakers are making life easier and convenient for consumers. This research aims to develop and test an integrated model of factors influencing consumer's adoption of voice-enabled IoT devices. Design/methodology/approach: Based on the VAM, an integrated voice-enabled IoT device adoption model is proposed. Gender differences on five constructs relating with perceived value (perceived usefulness, perceived enjoyment, perceived security risk, perceived technicality and perceived cost) was also examined through PLS-MGA technique. The usage experience of consumers was also controlled in the integrated VAM. Findings: Result shows that Perceived-Usefulness, Perceived-Enjoyment and Perceived-Cost have a strong effect on Perceived-Value. However, Perceived-Technicality and Perceived-Security-Risk are non-influential and have no significant effect on PV. Additionally, Perceived-Value and Social-Influence plays a significant role in predicting adoption intention. Gender differences also exist in consumers perception of usefulness, enjoyment and cost. In comparison to the basic value-based adoption model, the integrated model provides more insight on consumers adoption of voice-enabled IoT devices. Originality/value: Using an integrated model, this study is one of the first scholarly attempt at modelling the influential factors for adopting smart speakers i.e., voice-enabled IoT devices, with implications for improved adoption.

An Empirical Study on User's Continuance Intention Towards Mobile IM Service in China (중국 모바일 인스턴트 메시징 서비스의 지속사용 의도에 관한 실증연구)

  • Due to the intense competition and low switching cost, to find out which factors will significantly impact on user's continuance intention is very important for mobile instant messaging (IM) practitioners. In this study, we adopted network externalities and perceived service quality as independent variables based on the definition of mobile IM service. Network externalities also include direct externalities (referent network size) and indirect externalities (perceived complementarity). The result of this study shows that referent network size has a critical influence on perceived usefulness and perceived complementarity has a critical influence on perceived enjoyment; perceived service quality, as we expected, has significantly impact on not only customer's satisfaction but also perceived usefulness and perceived enjoyment. Meanwhile, both perceived usefulness and perceived enjoyment have directly critical influences on customer's continuance intention.

Factors affecting millennials' intentions to use social commerce in fashion shopping

  • Social media has become an integral part of consumers' daily lives. Individuals connect with one another on social networking sites to like, share, and post information and experiences. As social media become popular among millennials, a growing number of fashion retailers use social media networks in the context of online commerce transactions. Accordingly, an increased number of fashion retailers has been using social media as an advertising tool and a retail channel. Despite the popularity of social media among millennials, empirical findings are limited to reveal factors associated with young consumers' intentions to use social commerce in fashion shopping. This study sought to examine factors affecting millennials' intentions to use social commerce in fashion shopping by adopting the technology acceptance model. A total of 524 college students completed an online survey in the U.S. The results of structural equation model confirmed that perceived ease of use, usefulness, and enjoyment had a positive impact on millennials' attitudes and intentions toward fashion shopping in social commerce. While both perceived ease of use and usefulness positively influenced enjoyment, usefulness had a stronger impact than ease of use. Compared to usefulness, enjoyment had much stronger impact on attitudes. Further structural model analysis revealed a direct, positive influence of perceived usefulness of social commerce on perceived enjoyment of social commerce, which has not been explored in prior studies. These findings provide theoretical and managerial implications.
