  • Purpose: The purpose of this study is to examine the mediating effect of children's perceived peer attachment on children's subjective well-being and the effects of self-esteem, one of the variables of individual personality characteristics, on peer attachment and subjective well-being. Design: Data from the 2018 Panel Study on Korean Children were used. Methods: The survey method was conducted by the investigator, and the total number of cases was 1,434 people. Results: First, the higher the child's peer attachment leads to higher subjective well-being and self-esteem, and the higher the self-esteem leads to higher subjective well-being. Second, in the relationship between peer attachment and subjective well-being, self-esteem acts as a mediator variable. Third, children's peer attachment affects subjective well-being and self-esteem, and self-esteem affects subjective well-being. The results explain that the degree of children's peer attachment itself affects subjective well-being and self-esteem, and self-esteem also affects children's subjective well-being. Conclusion: Self-esteem is an important factor influencing subjective well-being and has a mediating effect on the relationship between peer attachment and subjective well-being. In other words, it can be understood that children feel subjective well-being through positive interactions with peers, not only in parent relationships. Based on these results, it is necessary to suggest practical interventions to enhance children's subjective sense of well-being and to develop various programs that can strengthen the sub-factors of peer attachment.

  • This study investigated the mediating and moderating effects of teacher preference on the relationship between behavior problems and peer victimization. The subjects were 520 children in the fifth and sixth grades. Children completed peer nominations that assessed peer victimization. Teachers rated children's internalizing, externalizing problems and teacher preference. The full mediating effect of teacher preference was found in externalizing problems and the partial mediating effect was found in internalizing problems. Moreover, the moderating effect of teacher preference was found only in internalizing problems, which suggests that high teacher preference protects internalizing problems from peer victimization.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate similarities in behavioral characteristics between children and their friends. Aggression and withdrawal behaviors, in conjunction with the effects of friendship quality and characteristics on peer rejection were analyzed. The participants were 414 fifth and sixth grade primary school children recruited from public schools in Bucheon city. Firstly, the peer nomination index was used to assess aggression, withdrawal, and peer rejection. Secondly, children reported on the quality of their friendships using the Friendship Quality Scale. The results indicates similarities in aggression and withdrawal between children and friends. Friends' aggression and withdrawal characteristics predicted children's peer rejection, which was more pronounced with higher friendship quality.

  • The present study investigates the impact of trained peer feedback on the quantity and quality of revisions made by EFL students at a low-intermediate level. Peer review training was carried out in experimental group through four in-class training sessions and four peer dyad-instructor conferences after class. Students' $1^{st}$ drafts with written peer feedback and revised drafts prior to and post training were collected and analyzed. Results reveal that after training the students produced more revisions in response to their peer comments (96% of total revisions) and those revisions were counted as enhanced in quality (93% of peer-triggered revisions). In contrast, the results of paired t-test within control group indicate that there was no significant difference between two data collected from week 3 and week 16 (t = -.57, df =19, p = .577 at p < .05). The findings suggest that training as an ongoing process of teacher intervention contributes to effectiveness of the peer feedback activity. The study provides pedagogical implications for how to structure and implement peer review training for the sake of its direct strength in an EFL writing class.

To this end, the empathy ability, peer relationship, and smartphone addiction tests were conducted among 154 six-grade elementary school students in Gyeonggi and Our findings were as follows; First, in terms of the correlations among empathy ability, peer relationships, and smartphone addiction, the empathy ability and peer relationships were shown to have a positive correlation while the empathy ability and smartphone addiction turned out to have a negative correlation, which was also the case between peer relationships and smartphone addiction. Second, when it came to the effects of the empathy ability and peer relationships on smartphone addiction, the emotional empathy as part of the empathy ability and the esteem out of peer relationships were shown to have a negative effect on smartphone addiction, indicating that an increase of emotional empathy and esteem resulted in less smart phone addiction. Third, in terms of the effect of peer relationships on smartphone addiction with the empathy ability as a medium, peer relationships and smartphone addiction were shown to be partially mediated by the empathy ability. These findings are meaningful in that they could serve as the basic data for the development of smartphone addiction prevention programs for elementary school students.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the moderating effects of language abilities associated with between emotionality, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and peer play interactions. Two hundred fifty-two participants were 3 year olds, with 136 boys and 116 girls. They were recruited from day care centers and preschools in Gyunggi province and Incheon city. Peer play interaction was assessed by the Penn Interactive Peer Play Scale (PIPPS). Emotionality was measured by Child Behavior Questionnaire (CBQ). ADHD was assessed by teacher ratings of ADHD syndrome. Language abilities were measured by Korean Wechsler Preschool and Primary Scale of Intelligence (K-WPPSI). Teachers completed questionnaires to assess peer play interactions, emotionality, ADHD. The results revealed that language abilities moderated relationships between emotionality and play in isolation. The magnitude of associations between emotionality and play in isolation was greater for high levels of language abilities. Moreover, there were moderating effects of language abilities associated between ADHD and play disruptions. Although ADHD was significantly associated with play disruptions, the association was stronger at the higher levels than the low levels of language abilities. It can be deduced that language abilities of 3 year old children affects the protection factor between emotionality and peer play isolation; whilst, it affects the risk factor on peer play disruptions and ADHD propensity.
