Antioxidant Potential in the Fruits of Pyrus Species (Pear) in Korea

  • Five samples (Bakwoonbae, Chungsilbae, Sandolbae, Dolbae, and Chuwhangbae) of Pyrus species differing in their origin of production were analyzed for total phenolic content, vitamin C content, and antioxidant activities. Two antioxidant activities were measured by the free-radical scavenging activity and reducing power method. Total phenolic content of the Chungsilbae extract (20.35 mg/g) was higher than those of other pears. Vitamin C content in five Pyrus species ranged from $420.32\;{\mu}g/g$ in Sandolbae to $659.75\;{\mu}g/g$ in Bakwoonbae. Chungsilbae also had the highest free radical scavenging activity (76.56%) and reducing power (0.35).

  • Meteorological measurements were carried out in the basin of Cheong-Kwan located Yang-San near Pusan city, from Oct. 30 to Nov. 1, 1988. According to the measured data, we vended the close relationship between the variation of nocturnal Inversion layer and the meteorological elements. The nocturnal intrersion layer by radiative cooling in this site extends up to 130 meters or so. And the nocturnal jet ap- pears just above or at the top of the inversion layer, and the stronger of the prevailing wind blows, and the lower of the jet level appears. Some meteorological features such as heating, cooling etc., began to change in or in the slightly higher level of the inversion layer, when they are formed, reinforced and disappeared. And the it In the basin preserves its character because It Is not affected by local scale air flow.

  • Embossing treated fruit bagging paper was prepared with newly designed embossing roll and mechanical properties of fruit bagging paper were evaluated. The embossing technology was developed. First of all, embossing roll was designed in Ginyong Embo(Co) for the embossing process of fruiting bag. The embossing treated fruit bagging paper was manufactured in Agro(Co) at plant scale. The mechanical properties of embossing paper was investigated and operation efficiency of bagging was tested at field. The properties of embossed paper was quit satisfied for fruiting bag for cultivation of apple and pears.

  • In this paper an asymmetric hydraulic actuator which consists of single acting cylinder and servo valve is modeled for a quarter car active suspension system. This model regards the force as an internal state rather than a control input. The control input of the model is the sum of oil flows that pass through the valve's orifices. The resulting dynamic equation in the state space ap-pears a feedback connection of a nominal linear time in-variant term with a nonlinear bounded uncertain block. Since this model makes it possible to eliminate the force control phase, analysis and controller design are made straightforward and simple. Well known LQR method is then applied. Simulation and test rig experiment show the effectiveness of this approach in modeling and control.

배 골판지 포장상자의 충격특성 (Impact properties of corrugated fiberboard box for the pears)

  • 배 포장용 골판지 상자의 자유낙하 실험을 통하여 완충재로써의 골판지 상자에 대한 충격력을 분석하기 위한 시스템을 구성하고 계측 및 분석용 컴퓨터 프로그램을 작성하여 자유낙하에 의한 배 골판지 포장상자의 충격력을 분석하였으며, 배 골판지 포장상자의 낙하높이에 따른 배의 손상정도는 낙하높이가 높아짐에 따라 손상이 심하고 낙하높이가 낮은 25cm에서도 진동에 의한 손상지수보다는 훨씬 큼을 알 수가 있었다. 이것은 자유낙하에 의한 골판지의 충격력이 배에 전달되어 멍이 발생하는 것으로, 진동에 의한 변위 증폭 및 압상에 의한 손상보다 낙하 충격력에 의한 손상이 더 큰 것을 알 수가 있었으며, 배 골판지 포장상자의 적재 및 하역 작업시에는 낮은 낙하높이에서도 포장상자를 떨어뜨리지 않도록 주의를 하여야 할 것이다.

  • This study probed into some characteristics of the urban household such as household income, number of the household, age distribution of the family members, their characteristics of shopping behavior such as the shopping place, types of the packaging and the characteristics of the time series, using consumer panel data of the Rural Development Administration (RDA). It further examined how the above factors affect fruit purchasing prices and then estimates the degree of the influence by each factor. The study looked at the purchase of apples, pears, tangerines, and oranges - the most favorite fruits in Korea. The results of this study can be utilized as the basic information for marketing strategies and/or for the establishment of future policy plans related to fruits consumption.

  • Fruits are subjected to complex dynamic stresses in the transportation environment. During a long journey form the production area to markets, there is always some degree of vibration present. Vibration inputs are transmitted from the vehicle through the packaging to the fruit. Inside, these cause sustained bouncing of fruits against each other and container wall. These steady state vibration input may cause serious fruit injury, and this damage is particularly severe whenever the fruit inside the package is free to bounce, and is vibrated at its resonant frequency. The determination of the resonant frequencies of the fruit may help the packaging designer to determine the proper packaging system providing adequate protection for the fruit, and to understand the complex interaction between the components of fruit when they relate to expected transportation vibration inputs. 배 품종별 꽃받침 탈리와 유전 양식 (Calyx Abscission in Pear (Pyrus spp.) Cultivars and Its Inheritance)

  • 배는 꽃이 진 후 꽃받침의 탈리가 품종에 따라 다르게 나타나는데 품종에 상관없이 꽃받침이 남아 있는 과실은 과정부가 비대하여 돌출하게 된다. 본 연구에서는 남방형 동양배 120품종, 북방형 동양배 52품종 및 서양배 34품종을 대상으로 꽃받침 탈리 여부에 따른 무체과 또는 유체과로의 발달 유무를 조사하고, 남방형 동양배 품종 간의 교배 조합 후대 실생의 유체과 발생률을 조사하여 꽃받침 탈리에 대한 유전 양식을 구명하고자 하였다. 일반적으로 유체과 발생률이 10% 이하이거나 유체과 발생률이 90% 이상인 품종의 비율이 무체과와 유체과가 혼재되어 발생하는 품종의 비율에 비해 상대적으로 높게 나타났다. 남방형 동양배, 북방형 동양배, 서양배순으로 유체과 발생률이 10% 이하인 품종의 비율이 높은 반면 서양배, 북방형 동양배, 남방형 동양배순으로 유체과 발생률이 90% 이상인 품종의 비율이 높았다. 꽃받침의 탈리 정도가 다른 품종 간의 교배에서 양친이 모두 유체과 발생률이 10% 이하인 경우에는 대부분의 후대가 유체과 발생률이 10% 이하인 실생이었으며, 양친이 모두 유체과 발생률이 90% 이상인 경우에는 대부분의 후대가 유체과 발생률이 높은 실생이었다. 무체과 품종이 화분친인 경우에는 종자친의 유체과 정도와 상관없이 무체과인 후대가 많은 반면, 종자친이 무체과이고 화분친이 다양한 수준의 유체과 발생률을 나타낸 교배 조합의 경우에는 후대에서 무체과와 유체과 실생의 비율이 유사한 경향을 보여 꽃받침의 탈리는 종자친보다는 화분친의 특성을 더 많이 나타내고 있음을 알 수 있었다. 이러한 결과로 볼 때, 꽃받침의 탈리 유무는 질적 형질이며 꽃받침의 탈리층 형성을 촉진하는 유전자들이 우성으로 작용하는 것으로 판단되었다.

VIS/NIR 스펙트럼 측정모드에 따른 신고 배의 당도 예측성능 비교 (Comparison of Performance of Measuring Method of VIS/NIR Spectroscopic Spectrum to Predict Soluble Solids Content of 'Shingo' Pear)

  • Three modes of VIS/NIR spectroscopic measurement (interactance and two modes of transmission) were compared for their ability to estimate soluble solids content (SSC) of 'Shingo' pear non-destructively. The two transmission modes are named as full- and semi-transmission, where full-transmission stands for passing of light through abdomen of pear and semi-transmission is for transit of light mainly through flesh of pear. For comparison of the modes, prediction models developed from the collected spectroscopic data by the three modes were developed and tested for comparison of their performance. Partial least square regression (PSLR) was used to develop the models and various pre-processing methods were applied to develop models of high accuracy. The experiment was repeated three times with pears produced in different regions. The experiments resulted that selection of pre-processing is very important to attain accurate models, and multiplicative scatter correction (MSC) was selected as a pre-processor of high accuracy for the three modes of spectroscopic measurement in every experiment. Except for MSC, different group of pre-processing methods were selected for the three modes of measurement in every experiment without any tendency to the tested modes of measurement and pears of different produced region. Root-mean-square error of prediction (RMSEP) of prediction models of the three modes of measurement using prepreocessor of MSC were compared for their ability to estimate SSC. The models resulted in ranges of $0.37{\sim}0.57^{\circ}Brix$, $0.65{\sim}0.72^{\circ}Brix$, $0.39{\sim}0.51^{\circ}Brix$ for interactance, full- and semi-transmission, respectively. As shown, modes of semi-transmission and interactance resulted about the same level of prediction accuracy and were noted as modes of high performance to predict SSC.
