The purpose of this study is to derive the optimal methodology estimating the changes of fluvial hydraulic characteristics due to semi-covering work of urban stream. First, after collecting the data of the daily maximum rainfall of Chungju gaging station, the frequency analysis was carried out with frequency factor method, which includes normal, two-parameter and three-parameter lognormal, Gumbel-Chow, pearson type III, log-pearson type III distribution, and the goodness of fit test was executed by $x^2$-test and Kormogorov-Smimov test. Using the SCS method, the effective rainfall was estimated and the peak flow was calculated by the area-routing method. The HEC-2 model was applied to calculate water surface profiles for steady, gradually varied flow at Kyohyun river system in Chungju city. The model was applied to floodplain and riverbed management to evaluate flood way encroachments and to delineate flood hazard by riverside roadway construction. The model also was used to evaluate effects on water surface profiles of river improvement and levees as well as the presence of bridges or other hydraulic structures in the floodplain.

A real-time hourly operation model for the flood control of Soyanggang Dam and Hwachon Dam, which are located in the North Han River is developed. The method is based on simulation with a feedforward-feedback control. The feedforward control was mainly concerned with providing the release history from the single dams. The outflows from the single dam operation rules with forecasted inflows were used as the inputs to simulation. And then feedback control is applied to reduce the peak discharge at the junction. Also, sensitivity analysis of the operation model was provided to respect the temporal and spatial distribution of storms to the model.
Many rainfall-runoff models have been used for the flood forecasting. However, the determination of rainfall-runoff model parameters is very difficult. In this study, we investigated the efficiency of flood forecasting models by studying the optimization techniques for parameter calibration of SFM, Tank, and SSARR models. We analyzed the correlations between parameters in optimization techniques, then classified the parameters into parameter groups. For this we applied the sequential calibration method through the sensitivity analysis. As the results of the analysis, the parameter groups clibration method showed better result for peak flow and clibtation time.
Sudden intrusion of a large amount of surface water into a flood defensive tunnel or pipeline system can compress the residual air. The compressed air may explode along with water through the inlet or air vent, resulting in hydraulic capacity degradation or safety hazards. This study aims to investigate the behavior of compressed air body in pipelines according to the residual air condition with a series of laboratory experiments measuring pressure variation. It has been found that flow characteristics and residual air conditions have a dominant influence on the magnitude and periodicity of the pressure variation. A proper measure to effectively control the residual air is required for securing the design capacity of flood defensive pipeline systems, since the peak pressure is predominantly affected by residual air conditions.

This paper is to apply Geographical Information System (GIS) supported Geomorphoclimatic Instantaneous Unit Hydrograph (GCIUH) approach for the calculated flash flood trigger rainfall of the mountainous area. GIS techniques was applied in geography data construction such as average slope, drainage area, channel characteristics. Especially, decided stream order using GIS at stream order decision that is important for input variable of GCIUH. We compared the GCIUH peak discharge with the existing report using the design storm at Chundong basin($14.58km^2$). The results showed that derived the GCIUH was a very proper method in the calculation of mountaunous discharge. At the Chundong basin, flash flood trigger rainfall was 12.57mm in the first 20 minutes when the threshold discharge was $11.42m^3/sec$.

It is difficult to make an exact estimate of the peak discharge or the runoff depth of flood and establish the proper measure for the flood protection since the water stage or discharge has been nearly measured at most medium or small river basins. The objective of this study is to estimate parameters of the discrete, linear, input-output model for medium or small river basin. The On-Cheon River basin in Pusan was selected for the study area. The runoff data used in the study has been observed since June 1993, and the effective rainfall was determined using the storage function method. The parameter sets of the discrete, linear, input-output model were estimated using the least squares method and the correlation function method, respectively. The calculated hydrographs by the discrete, linear, input-output model regenerated the observed outflow hydrographs well, and also the simulated flood hydrograph was comparable to the observed one. Therefore, it is believed that the discrete, linear, input-output model is simpler than other runoff analysis methods, and can be applied to a medium or small river basin.

The flood damage shows different types in natural river watershed and in urban drainage watershed. In recent, increasing of the impervious area gives rise to short concentration time and high peak discharge comparing with natural watershed and it is a cause of urban flood damage. In this paper, we use a XP-SWMM model developed based on EPA-SWMM version for analyzing the inundation area, inundation depth and inundation area considering building effect. The two events(2005.06, 2005.07) has been used for the validation of model. HEC-RAS model has been applied for simulation of changing water level, and the results has been used for calculating area of the inundation. The observed inundation area(21.41 ha) in August, 1998 was in good agreement with the simulated value(23.45 ha) of XPSWMM model. An influence of inundation area considering building effects has been analized by the DTM of XP-SWMM model.

This study examines the applicability of the Nash model and the Diskin model, which are linear and nonlinear runoff models, respectively, by applying optimization techniques to the parameter calibration of the two models. Nonlinear programming which is one of traditional optimization techniques and Genetic Algorithm which has been actively applied recently are used in this study. The Nash and Diskin models which use the calibrated parameter with a flood events are applied to a different flood event in Soyang Dam basin. The results obtained from the parameter calibration show slight discrepancy depending upon the flood events. It has been found in the comparion between the observed hydrograph and the hydrographs obtained from the parameter calibration that the Diskin model can better simulate the observed hydrograph than the Nash model can, especially, for the peak flow. This can be analyzed that the Diskin model which is a nonlinear runoff model is better off in simulating the nonlinear characteristic of the rainfall-runoff process.

Runoff Characteristics has been Analysis Using geomorphologic Instantaneous Unit Hydrograph(GIUH) and geomorphoclimatic unit hydrograph(GCUH) on an ungaged vary small basin about $5km^2$ scale in Kyungbuk gampo area. First, we estimated hydrology Factor using Geographic Information System(GIS) tool and then, calculated the characteristic velocity using the real rainfall-runoff data. It is compared with several velocities derived from GCUH theory and several other concentration time formulae. Kerby and Braby-Williams seems to be more applicable as characteristic velocity formula. Second, We compared the GCUH peak discharge with the probable flood, also compared the unit hydrograph as like the Clark, the Nakayasu and the S.C.S and GCUH with the observed discharge using the real rainfall events. The comparison results showed that GCUH could be applicable on an ungaged vary small basin. We expected that the result can be used as for estimation of a flash flood standard rainfall as well as emergency management plan.

According to recent frequent local flash flood due to climate change, the very short-term rainfall forecast using remotely sensed rainfall like radar is necessary to establish. This research is to evaluate the feasibility of GIS-based distributed model coupled with radar rainfall, which can express temporal and spatial distribution, for multipurpose dam operation during flood season. $Vflo^{TM}$ model was used as physically based distributed hydrologic model. The study area was Yongdam dam basin ($930\;km^2$) and the 3 storm events of local convective rainfall in August 2005, and the typhoon.Ewiniar.and.Bilis.collected from Jindo radar was adopted for runoff simulation. Distributed rainfall consistent with hydrologic model grid resolution was generated by using K-RainVieux, pre-processor program for radar rainfall. The local bias correction for original radar rainfall shows reasonable results of which the percent error from the gauge observation is less than 2% and the bias value is $0.886{\sim}0.908$. The parameters for the $Vflo^{TM}$ were estimated from basic GIS data such as DEM, land cover and soil map. As a result of the 3 events of multiple peak hydrographs, the bias of total accumulated runoff and peak flow is less than 20%, which can provide a reasonable base for building operational real-time short-term rainfall-runoff forecast system.
