Performance Improvement of a Modified Perturbation Method via a Least Square Approach for Sensor Arrays

  • This paper concerns a modified perturbation method and a least square approach to synthesize an optimum beam pattern of a thinned sensor array with respect to element spacing. In the modified perturbation, the antenna spacing is perturbed iteratively such that the sidelobes are equalized via a linear programming approach. The least square approach is proposed to improve the array performance for the thinned array using the fact that the number of sidelobes is more than the number of element spacings. It is demonstrated that the least square approach performs better than the modified perturbation method.

An Experimental Study on Flame Spread in an One-Dimensional Droplet Array (일차원 액적 배열하에서 화염 퍼짐에 관한 실험적 연구)

  • Experimental investigations on flame spread in droplet arrays have been conducted under supercritical ambient pressures of fuel droplet. Flame spread rates are measured for n-Decane droplet of diameters of 0.75 and 1.0mm, using high speed images of OH chemiluminescence up to 3.0MPa. The pattern of flame spread is categorized into two: a continuous mode and an intermittent one. There exists a limit droplet spacing, above which flame spread does not occur. Flame spread rate with the decrease of droplet spacing increases and then decreases after takin& a maximum. It is also seen that there exists a limit ambient pressure, above which flame spread does not occur. Flame spread rate decreases monotonically with the increase of ambient pressure. Exceptionally, In the case of a small droplet spacing, flame spread with the increase of ambient pressure is extended to supercritical pressures of fuel droplet. This is caused by enhanced vaporization with the increase of ambient pressure. Consequently, in flame spread with droplet droplet spacing, the relative position of flame to droplet spacing plays an important role. The monotonic decrease with ambient pressure is mainly related to the reduction of flame radius in subcritical pressures and the extension to supercritical pressures of flame spread is caused by the reduction of ignition time of unburnt droplet due to the enhanced vaporization at supercritical pressures.

  • Recently, STI(Shallow Trench Isolation) process has attracted attention for high density of semiconductor device as a essential isolation technology. In this paper, the effect of pattern density, trench width and selectivity of slurry on dishing in STI CMP process was investigated by using specially designed isolation pattern. As trench width increased, the dishing tends to increase. At $20{\mu}m$ pattern size, the dishing was decreased with increasing pattern density Low selectivity slurry shows less dishing at over $160{\mu}m$ trench width, whereas high selectivity slurry shows less dishing at below $160{\mu}m$ trench width.

  • This paper concerns an efficient approach to forming a beam pattern of a microphone array to deal with broadband signals such as speech in a teleconference. A numerical method is proposed to find updated location of sidelobes for equalizaing the sidelobes via perturbation of array parameters such as array weight or microphone spacing. Thus the microphone array is optimized in a Dolph-Chebyshev sense such that directional or background noises incident in an array visual range are eliminated efficiently. It is shown that perturbation of microphone spacing yields an optimum pattern more appropriate for dealing with broadband signals than that of array weight. Also, a novel method is proposed to find a beam pattern which is robust with respect to sidelobe in a scanning situation. Computer simulation results are presented.

  • Myocardial tagging technique such as spatial modulation of magnetization (SPAMM) allows the study of myocardial motion with high accuracy. However, the accuracy of the estimation of tag intersection can be affected by tagline spacing. The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between tagline spacing of SPAMM image and tagging contrast-to-noise ratio (CNR) in in-vivo study. Two healthy volunteers were undergone electrocardiographically triggered MR imaging with SPAMM-based tagging pulse sequence at a 1.5T MR scanner. Horizontally modulated stripe patterns were imposed with a range from 3.6 to 9.6 mm of tagline spacing. Images of the left ventricle(LV) wall were acquired at the mid-ventricle level during cardiac cycle with FE-EPI (TR/TE = 5.8/2.2 msec, FA= 10$^{\circ}$. Tagging CNR for each image was calculated with a software which developed in our group. During contraction, tagging CNR was more rapidly decreased in case of narrow tagline spacing than in case of wide tagline spacing. In the same heart phase, CNR was increased corresponding with tagline spacing. Especially, at the fully contracted heart phase, CNR was more rapidly increased than the other heart phases as a function of tagline spacing. The results indicated that the optimization of tagline spacing provides better tagging CNR in order to analyze the myocardial motion more accurately.

  • In design of groyne series, groyne spacing is a important factor and have an effect on not only the characteristics of backward and recirculation flow in groyne zone but also flow field in main channel. It is necessary study about flow pattern of recirculation zone and main channel that is a cause of bad change, local scour and bank erosion by groyne spacing. In this study, flow variation of groyne zone and main chanel for spacing of groynes were analyzed from the experiment results in order to offer a fundamental data that can be used to decide the proper groyne spacing. Experiments were conducted 12 cases for groyne spacing(L) by groyne length(l) rate and the velocity profile was measured using LSPIV and ADV. From the results, two vortex flows developed in recirculation zone for L/l=3~9 and three vortex flows developed over L/l=10. The velocity of backward flow in recirculation zone was decreased up to 20% over L/l=4. The velocity of main channel flow was increased from 1.3 to 2.0 times by groyne spacing and the rate of velocity increased by increasing groyne spacing. The maximum velocity occurred in 0.7~0.8 times of groyne spacing downstream of upper groyne.

Prediction of the crack aspect change in twin surface cracks (2개의 대칭표면구열의 구열형상변화 예측)

  • An analytical scheme for predicting the crack aspect pattern of materials which contain twin surface cracks was developed. Fatigue tests were performed on twin surface cracked PMMA plate specimens to obtain the interaction factor accounting for the interference effect of adjacent cracks. Here, the interaction factor is defined as the ratio of the stress intensity factor for twin surface cracks to that for a single surface crack. From the analysis of the fatigue test result, the interaction factor was presented as the ninth-order polynomial expression having a function of dimensionless crack spacing ratio. Then the polynomial expression was incorporated into the prediction program of the crack aspect pattern for twin surface cracked materials. And, the interaction effect and the coalescence condition of adjacent cracks were simplified in the newly developed prediction scheme of the crack aspect pattern. The predicted crack growth pattern using the prediction scheme was compared with test data from PMMA specimen. The predicted pattern agreed well with the test data.

  • In the mobile antenna systems for satellite multimedia communications, the active way antenna having a low sidelobe antenna pattern is described in this paper. This designed and fabricated array antenna is satisfied with international beam pattern regulation on moving states. The subarray of the proposed mobile antenna system is arranged with a stair-planar structure and non-periodic array spacing. This subarray is designed with three-layered microstrip patch as both receiving and transmitting radiator of which are improved with antenna gain and bandwidth. Also, the optimum subarray spacing is designed to make the lowest sidelobe pattern by genetic algorithm. In addition, the characteristics of a GA-perturbed array are investigated from simulated and measured beam pattern results.

A Study on Optimizing Unit Process Ring Pattern Design for High Voltage Power Semiconductor Device Development (고전압 전력반도체 소자 개발을 위한 단위공정 링패턴설계 최적화에 대한 연구)

  • Recently, the global demands for high voltage power semiconductors are increasing across various industrial fields. The use of electric cars with high safety and convenience is becoming practical, and IGBT modules of 3.3 kV and 1.2 kA or higher are used for electric locomotives. Delicate design and advanced process technology are required, and research on the optimization of high-voltage IGBT parts is urgently needed in the industry. In this study, we attempted to design a simulation process through TCAD (technology computer-aid design) software to optimize the process conditions of the fielding process among the core unit processes for an especial high yield voltage. As well, the prior circuit technology design and a ring pattern with a large number of ring formation structures outside the wafer similar to the chip structure of other companies were constructed for 3.3 kV NPT-IGBT through a unit process demonstration experiment. The ring pattern was designed with 21 rings and the width of the ring was 6.6 ㎛. By changing the spacing between patterns from 17.4 ㎛ to 35.4 ㎛, it was possible to optimize the spacing from 19.2 ㎛ to 18.4 ㎛.

Simulation of fluid flow and particle transport around two circular cylinders in tandem at low Reynolds numbers (낮은 레이놀즈 수에서 두 개의 원형 실린더 주위 유동 및 입자 거동 해석)

  • Understanding particle-laden flow around cylindrical bodies is essential for the better design of various applications such as filters. In this study, laminar flows around two tandem cylinders and the motions of particles in the flow are numerically investigated at low Reynolds numbers. We aim to reveal the effects of the spacing between cylinders, Reynolds number and particle Stokes number on the characteristics of particle trajectories. When the cylinders are placed close, the unsteady flow inside the inter-cylinder gap at Re = 100 shows a considerable modification. However, the steady recirculation flow in the wake at Re = 10 and 40 shows an insignificant change. The change in the flow structure leads to the variation of particle dispersion pattern, particularly of small Stokes number particles. However, the dispersion of particles with a large Stokes number is hardly affected by the flow structure. As a result, few particles are observed in the cylinder gap regardless of the cylinder spacing and the Reynolds number. The deposition efficiency of the upstream cylinder shows no difference from that of a single cylinder, increasing as the Stokes number increases. However, the deposition on the downstream cylinder is found only at Re = 100 with large spacing. At this time, the deposition efficiency is generally small compared to that of an upstream cylinder, and the deposition location is also changed with no deposited particles near the stagnation point.
