Obstacle Avoidance for Unmanned Air Vehicles Using Monocular-SLAM with Chain-Based Path Planning in GPS Denied Environments

  • Detecting obstacles and generating a suitable path to avoid obstacles in real time is a prime mission requirement for UAVs. In areas, close to buildings and people, detecting obstacles in the path and estimating its own position (egomotion) in GPS degraded/denied environments are usually addressed with vision-based Simultaneous Localization and Mapping (SLAM) techniques. This presents possibilities and challenges for the feasible path generation with constraints of vehicle dynamics in the configuration space. In this paper, a near real-time feasible path is shown to be generated in the ORB-SLAM framework using a chain-based path planning approach in a force field with dynamic constraints on path length and minimum turn radius. The chain-based path plan approach generates a set of nodes which moves in a force field that permits modifications of path rapidly in real time as the reward function changes. This is different from the usual approach of generating potentials in the entire search space around UAV, instead a set of connected waypoints in a simulated chain. The popular ORB-SLAM, suited for real time approach is used for building the map of the environment and UAV position and the UAV path is then generated continuously in the shortest time to navigate to the goal position. The principal contribution are (a) Chain-based path planning approach with built in obstacle avoidance in conjunction with ORB-SLAM for the first time, (b) Generation of path with minimum overheads and (c) Implementation in near real time.

  • The purpose of this paper is to present a branch and bound algorithm for the hierarchical transportation network design problem in 2-level directed networks. This problem is to find the least cost of hierarchical transportation networks which consist of a primary path and a secondary path. The primary path is a simple path from a prespecified orgin node to a prespecified terminal node. All nodes must be either a transsipment node on the primary path or connected to that path via secondary arcs. This problem is formulated to a 0-1 inter programming problem with assignment and illegal subtour elimination equations as constaints. We show that the subproblem relaxing subtour elimination constraints is transformed to a linear programming problem by means of the totally unimodularity. Optimal solutions of this subproblem are polynoially obtained by the assignment algorithm and complementary slackness conditions. Therefore, the optimal value of this subproblme is used as a lower bound. When an optimal solution of the subproblem has an illegal subtour, a better disjoint rule is adopted as the branching strategy for reducing the number of branched problems. The computational comparison between the least bound rule and the depth first rule for the search strategy is given.

임무유형과 다중 격자지도 기반의 임무지향적 전역경로 생성 연구 (Mission Oriented Global Path Generation for Unmanned Combat Vehicle Based on the Mission Type and Multiple Grid Maps)

  • In this paper, a global path generation method is suggested using multiple grid maps connected with the mission type of unmanned combat vehicle(UCV). In order to carry out a mission for UCV, it is essential to find a global path which is coincident with the characteristics of the mission. This can be done by considering various combat circumstances represented as grid maps such as velocity map, threat map and communication map. Cost functions of multiple grid maps are linearly combined and normalized to them simultaneously for the path generation. The proposed method is realized using $A^*$, a well known search algorithm, and cost functions are normalized in the ratio of the traverse time which is one of critical information should be provided with the operators using the velocity map. By the experiments, it is checked found global paths match with the mission type by reflecting input data of grid maps properly and the computation time is short enough to regenerate paths in real time as combat circumstances change.

  • 무선 센서 네트워크의 센서 노드들은 한정된 자원을 가지고 있으며 배터리의 교체가 어렵다는 특성을 가지고 있기 때문에 제한된 에너지를 효율적으로 사용하는 기법은 매우 중요하다. 지금까지 이러한 센서 노드의 에너지 소모를 최소화하기 위하여 다양한 스케줄링 문제 및 해결 방안에 관한 연구들이 진행되어 왔다. 특히 CTC(Connected Target Coverage) 문제는 타겟 커버리지와 연결성을 동시에 고려하여 센서 노드들의 효율적인 상태 전이 시점을 결정하는 대표적인 스케줄링 문제로 간주된다. 본 논문에서는 중복되어 센싱되는 타겟을 고려한 보다 올바른 센서 에너지 소비 모델을 제안하고 센서 네트워크의 수명을 더욱 연장 할 수 있는 CMTC(Connected Multiple-Target Coverage) 문제를 제시한다. 또한, 이 문제를 해결하기 위한 SPT(Shortest Path based on Targets) Greedy 알고리즘을 제안하고 시뮬레이션을 통하여 제안기법이 기존기법보다 센서 네트워크의 수명을 더욱 연장하는 기법임을 보인다.

다관절 로보트를 위한 충돌 회피 경로 계획 (Collision-free path planning for an articulated robot)

  • The purpose of this paper is to develop a method of Collision-Free Path Planning (CFPP) for an articulated robot. First, the configuration of the robot is formed by a set of robot joint angles derived fromm robot inverse kinematics. The joint space that is made of the joint angle set, forms a Configuration space (Cspace). Obstacles in the robot workcell are also transformed and mapped into the Cspace, which makes Cobstacles in the Cspace. (The Cobstacles represented in the Cspace is actually the configurations of the robot causing collision.) Secondly, a connected graph, a kind of roadmap, is constructed from the free configurations in the 3 dimensional Cspace, where the configurations are randomly sampled form the free Cspace. Thirdly, robot paths are optimally in order to minimize of the sum of joint angle movements. A path searching algorithm based on A is employed in determining the paths. Finally, the whole procedures for the CFPP method are illustrated with a 3 axis articulated robot. The main characteristics of the method are; 1) it deals with CFPP for an articulated robot in a 3-dimensional workcell, 2) it guarantees finding a collision free path, if such a path exists, 3) it provides distance optimization in terms of joint angle movements. The whole procedures are implemented by C on an IBM compatible 486 PC. GL (Graphic Library) on an IRIS CAD workstation is utilized to produce fine graphic outputs.

곡선주행 실시간 주행성 분석을 위한 스키드 차량의 동역학 모델링 (A Dynamic Modeling of 6×6 Skid Type Vehicle for Real Time Traversability Analysis over Curved Driving Path)

  • Real-Time Traversability should be analyzed from the equiped sensors' data in real time for autonomous outdoor navigation. However, it is difficult to find out such traversability that considers the terrain roughness and the vehicle dynamics especially in case of skid type vehicle. The traversability based on real time dynamic analysis was proposed to solve such problem but in navigation with strait driving path. To adapt the method into the navigation with curved driving path, a path following controller should be incorporated into the dynamic model even though it cause the real time problem. In this paper, a dynamic model is proposed to solve the real time problem in the traversability analysis based on real time dynamic simualtion. The dynamic model contains the control dummy which is connected to the vehicle body with a universal joint to follow the curved path without controller. Simulation and experimental results on $6{\times}6$ articulated unmanned ground vehicle demonstrate the method's effectiveness and applicability into the traversability analysis on terrain with bumps.

L(4, 3, 2, 1)-PATH COLORING OF CERTAIN CLASSES OF GRAPHS

  • An L(p1, p2, p3, . . . , pm)-labeling of a graph G is an assignment of non-negative integers, called as labels, to the vertices such that the vertices at distance i should have at least pi as their label difference. If p1 = 4, p2 = 3, p3 = 2, p4 = 1, then it is called a L(4, 3, 2, 1)-labeling which is widely studied in the literature. A L(4, 3, 2, 1)-path coloring of graphs, is a labeling g : V (G) → Z+ such that there exists at least one path P between every pair of vertices in which the labeling restricted to this path is a L(4, 3, 2, 1)-labeling. This concept was defined and results for some simple graphs were obtained by the same authors in an earlier article. In this article, we study the concept of L(4, 3, 2, 1)-path coloring for complete bipartite graphs, 2-edge connected split graph, Cartesian product and join of two graphs and prove an existence theorem for the same.

  • A high speed Viterbi decoder with a circularly connected 2-dimensional analog processing cell array is proposed. It has a 2-dimensional parallel processing structure in which an analog processing cell is placed at each node of a trellis diagram. The constraints' length of trellis diagram is connected circularly so that infinitively expanding trellis diagram is realized with the fixed size of circuits. The proposed Viterbi decoder has advantages in that it is operated with better performance of error correction, has a shorter latency and requires no path memories. The performance of error correction with the proposed Viterbi decoder is tested via the software simulation.

네트워크 경로에 기초한 웹 캐쉬 알고리즘 (A Network-path based Web Cache Algorithm)

  • Since most of the existing web cache structures are static, they cannot support the dynamic request change of he current WWW users well. Users re generally using multiple programs in several different windows with rapid preference change within a relatively short period of time. We develop a network-path based algorithm. It organizes a cache according to the network path of the requested URLs and build a network cache farm where caches are logically connected with each other and each cache has its own preference over certain network paths. The algorithm has been implemented and tested in a real site. The performance results show that the new algorithm outperforms the existing static algorithms in the hit ratio and response time dramatically.
