Deciding on an optimal sensor placement (OSP) is a common problem encountered in many engineering applications and is also a critical issue in the construction and implementation of an effective structural health monitoring (SHM) system. The present study focuses with techniques for selecting optimal sensor locations in a sensor network designed to monitor the health condition of Dalian World Trade Building which is the tallest in the northeast of China. Since the number of degree-of-freedom (DOF) of the building structure is too large, multi-modes should be selected to describe the dynamic behavior of a structural system with sufficient accuracy to allow its health state to be determined effectively. However, it's difficult to accurately distinguish the translational and rotational modes for the flexible structures with closely spaced modes by the modal participation mass ratios. In this paper, a new method of the OSP that computing the mode shape matrix in the weak axis of structure by the simplified multi-DOF system was presented based on the equivalent rigidity parameter identification method. The initial sensor assignment was obtained by the QR-factorization of the structural mode shape matrix. Taking the maximum off-diagonal element of the modal assurance criterion (MAC) matrix as a target function, one more sensor was added each time until the maximum off-diagonal element of the MAC reaches the threshold. Considering the economic factors, the final plan of sensor placement was determined. The numerical example demonstrated the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed scheme.

There has been 10 years since The Health Promotion Act was legislated. The government began to establish a health promotion fund on the basis of Health Promotion Act in 1995, and to manage and operate the fund from 1998. It is evaluated that health promotion program have had various outcomes in many aspects. First, there has been growing awareness of the impotance of health promotion through the establishment of Health Plan 2010 and the effort to actualize the Plan. Second, the importance of securing health equity and identifying health determinants have been recognized during the planning process of Health Plan 2010. Third, the health promotion program have mainly focused on improving healthy life style of the population. As a result, desirable health behavior change of the population could be expected from the result of 2005 National Health and Nutrition Survey. Fourth, public health centers began to play a crucial role in implementing health promotion programs, and began to build infrastructure for health promotion programs. Fifth, the outcomes of health promotion programs by public health centers and private health organizations have been increasing. Finally, training for health promotion personnel and their participation in the program could be the foundation for the higher level of outcome achievement from the health promotion programs. Important challenges for future health promotion would be identification of the determinants and risk factors of health in Korea, establishment of local health promotion plan, building infrastructure for health promotion, creation of specific action model by public health center, development of diverse health promotion programs and health promotion program for the elderly, conducting research for evidence concerning major factors reducing the need for health care through prevention disease activities, and establishment of evaluation and feed back system for health promotion programs.
The aim of the present study was to evaluate the central antinociceptive effects of eugenol after intraperitoneal administration. Experiments were carried out using male Sprague-Dawley rats. Subcutaneous injection of 5% formalin-induced nociceptive behavioral responses was used as the pain model. Subcutaneous injection of 5% formalin significantly produced nociceptive responses by increasing the licking time during nociceptive behavior. Subsequent intraperitoneal injection of 100 mg/kg of eugenol led to a significant decrease in the licking time. However, low dose of eugenol (50 mg/kg) did not affect the nociceptive behavioral responses produced by subcutaneous injection of formalin. Intrathecal injection of $30{\mu}g$ of naloxone, an opioid receptor antagonist, significantly blocked antinociceptive effects produced by intraperitoneal injection of eugenol. Neither intrathecal injection of methysergide ($30{\mu}g$), a serotonin receptor antagonist nor phentolamine ($30{\mu}g$), an ${\alpha}-adrenergic$ receptor antagonist influenced antinociceptive effects of eugenol, as compared to the vehicle treatment. These results suggest that central opioid pathway participates in mediating the antinociceptive effects of eugenol.
This study analyzes marriage and fertility rates in Korea and makes recommendations for family policy. Based on the 'The Report of Marriage & Divorce Statistics in 2005' and data from the Korea Statistical Information System (KOSIS) of the National Statistics Organization, the trends, reasons for marriage rates changes, and future expectations were critically reviewed. In addition, the relationship between marriage and fertility rates was analyzed. The principle characteristics of marriage rates are as follows: 1) the M-shape of the longitudinal crude marriage rates; 2) the increased age of individuals entering their the first marriage; 3) the increase in remarriage rates; 4) the changes in the patterns of remarriage; 5) the increased in the age at which individuals remarry and; 6) the increase in marriage to non-Koreans. The marriage and fertility rates changes are a permanent normative shift because of 1) later marriage because of women's increased education and labor force participation 2) rational choices about birth control 3) reduced population because of the aging of baby boomers 4) structural changes in the marriage market and 5) egalitarian changes in women's attitudes toward marriage and family. The recommendations for future family policy were as follows: 1) the need for a realistic, long-term family policy because the current marriage patterns will continue; 2) the need to develop new statistics such as fertility rates that are based on marriage cohort or birth cohort because family behavior is a mixture of personal, social and political responses; 3) the need for impact analysis of current family policy about increasing fertility rates; 4) the need for a new family perspective that encompasses diverse marriage and family patterns; 5) the need to focus on men's role in families because of women's changing roles and family interaction patterns and; 6) the need for preventive family policies such as family life education.
Readability, an indicator measuring the easiness of reading letters, has been known an important element that determines the communicative effectiveness of the self-guided interpretive signs. However, there are few studies to find out how the readability of the signs influence visitor's attraction and reading behavior of interpretive signs. This study examined the relationship between readability of interpretive signs and attraction, preferences, and intent to recommend reading signs to others. Data were collected from August to November of 2003 at a self-guided trail of Naejangsan National Park, Korea. 350 out of 375 responses from subjects who participated in the questionnaire survey were usable. Results showed that readability of the signs is related with the attraction, preferences, and intention of recommending reading signs to others. The higher the readability of the signs were, the higher the attraction, preferences, and intention of recommending reading signs were. Attraction and preferences were also positively related with intention of recommending reading signs. Preferences better explained intention of recommending reading signs than readability and attraction. These findings suggest that enhancing readability of the signs may lead to higher participation in reading them.
This study suggests the dynamic value chain model, that will be able to not only show changing processes to organization's significant capital by integrating an individual, implicit, and explicit knowledge which affect organizational decision making, but also distinguish the key driver for raising organizational competitive power because it makes possible to analyze sensitivity of performance along with decision making alternatives and policy changes from dynamic view by connecting knowledge management capability, knowledge management activity, and relations with organizational performance with specific strategic map. Recently, a lot of organizations show interest in measuring and evaluating their performance synthetically. In organizations taking knowledge management, they introduce effective value chain model like a dynamic balanced scorecard (DBSC), and therefore they can reflect their knowledge management condition as well as show their changes by checking performance of established vision and strategy periodically. Furthermore, they can ask for their inner members' understanding and participation by communicating with and inspiring their members with awareness that members are one of their group, present a base of benchmarking, and offer significant information for later decision making. The BSC has been a successful framework for measuring an organization's performance in various perspectives through translating an organization's vision and strategy into an interrelated set of key performance indicators and specific actions. The BSC, while having significant strengths over traditional performance measurement methods, however, has its own limitations, due to its static nature, such as overlooking two-way causation between performance indicators and neglecting the impact of delayed feedback flowing from the adoption of new strategies or policy changes. To overcome these limitations, this study employs SD, a methodology for understanding complex systems where dynamic feedback among the interrelated system components significantly impact on the system outcomes. The SD simulation model in the form of DBSC would serve as a useful strategic teaming tool for facilitating an organization's communication process through various scenario analyses as well as predicting the dynamic behavior pattern of their key performance measures over a future time frame. For the demonstration purpose, this study applied the DBSC model to Prototype of Korea manufacturing and service firm.
This study aimed to determine a tourist family's perceptions of dining at a holiday destination. A key assumption of this study was that dining at an unfamiliar locale at a tourist resort is engaging in risk-taking behavior by the tourist family. In this unfamiliar setting, participation in the local food market takes on a significant role in the tourist family's sense of satisfaction and loyalty. For the purpose of this study, involvement pertains to the family's perceived relevance of the objective of this study based on inherent needs, values, and interests. For this study, 151 subjects vacationing with his/her family on Jeju Island participated. To perform research on perceived risk and involvement in terms of the decision maker's capacity, only one member of each family responded to the survey, which examined the impact on sense of satisfaction of perceived risk and involvement in the local food scene. Perceived risks were divided according to financial, performance, physical, social-psychological, and time-risk factors. Perceived risk and involvement were found to be significant predictors of the overall satisfaction of the tourist family's local food consumption. Furthermore, performance risk was determined to be significantly linked to the tourist family's dining sense of satisfaction and loyalty. These findings provide some meaningful marketing implications for Jeju Island's tourism industry. Reducing the performance risk and increasing the local food involvement may activate rural tourism and local food consumption. Theoretical and practical contributions to local food marketing are discussed.
Cultural heritage means a great lot to a nation's social system and its people's behavior consciousness and plays an important role in its self-development and improvement. It is essential for a nation's self-education and renewal. Improper cultural heritage will be disastrous because it may fall a nation into a loss of terrible chaos. Only the proper cultural heritage can make it always self-awaking, self-correcting and remaining vital in life. This paper, from the perspective of Choi Bu's Pyohaerok, makes a thorough analysis of the unbalance heritage of Chinese ancient culture for thousands of years. For example, many fine traditions gradually vanished in our actual life or only take half their life in heritage nowadays, such as our ancient broad and profound Confucian etiquette, ancient exquisite brocade art and architecture, ancient advanced ship-building technology and many other advanced numerous technological inventions; however, too much unwanted cultural rubbish keeps constant prevailing and takes repeated successions in the life, such as the heavy-form-and-light-content management mode, borrowing power to do evil, neglecting technological inventions long time and generally believing in ghost theory,etc.. This paper mainly focuses on the partial successions of the bad cultural heritage and its bad influence on the country, and concludes that it is just that that makes the country more and more backward. Therefore, the paper makes some pondering over these issues and proposes some related ideas of country-building to attract others participation to deal with them.
The study aims to comprehend the effect of the wetland ecology education on the elementary school students' changes of recognition about wetland through the wetland ecology map program. In this study, the literary research, the experimental research and the survey methods were operated. Through the literary research, the environmental factors were extracted, and the writing item of ecology map was reconstructed based on the literary research, so the experimental research was operated with the wetland ecology map program. Through four areas of test items such as the information and knowledge, values and attitudes, development and conservation, behavior and participation, and the analysis of children's study results, the effect of the wetland ecology map program on changes of recognition about wetland was verified quantitatively and qualitatively. Wetland ecology map program would be able to be an educational approach which can achieve the 'personalization of environment' setting up predictable environmental improvement goals and satisfying the needs of spatial information of the appropriate regions from the holistic perspective that students themselves plan and participate beyond a one-time experience program. Production of ecological map through continuous monitoring is expected to improve the possibility of subjective environmental actions by operating self-directed learning. Based on the conclusion of this study, we would suggest the following. For wetland ecology map program to be supplemented and utilized, the basic education of wetland should be organized in regular school curriculum, ecology map program including various teaching learning methods be prepared actively, and in future studies, studies of ecosystem-wide wetland ecology map program including animals like birds and fish are necessary.
The present study aimed to understand high school students' environmental literacy for water and their attitudes toward environment. This study was conducted during the spring of the 2010 academic year with the participation of 123 students from a public international high school located in Seoul. The Environmental Science Literacy for Water test and the Revised New Ecological Paradigm scale were administered, and the data were analyzed by descriptive statistics and content analysis. The high school students in this study put strong emphasis on encouraging others to conserve water resources. This belief, however, was not aligned with self-recognition of their own roles in water supply shortages and other problematic water-use behavior. They also had difficulties in understanding the invisible part of matter transformations in water systems. Nevertheless, they showed favorable attitudes toward environmental conservation. In conclusion, the researchers suggest recognizing our own water problems and narrowing the gap between environmental and scientific knowledge of water and actual attitudes about the environment through curricular incorporation of interdisciplinary environmental science literacy into school science.
