  • The purpose of this study was to provide information on adoptive families and obtain the basis data for adoption-related programs that are useful to adoptive families by examining their experiences in the adoption process, post-adoption adaptation, and adoption programs. For the study, in-depth interviews were conducted on six mothers who publicly adopted elementary school children and had expressed high satisfaction with adopted families and their willingness to participate in this research voluntarily. The main results exhibited parents' happiness post-adoption along with positive changes, such as internal growth, marital love growth, favorable response from others, and child's unexpected responses to adoption. However, open adoption mothers have coped with efforts to sympathize with and accept their children's feelings as they suffer from adoption, and with active support from their spouses, parents, and their own children. Open adoption mothers participated in various adoption-related programs, support, and voluntary self-help groups provided by adoption agencies or public organizations, and above all, their experience in self-help groups and peer groups of adopted children was found to be very useful. Based on these main results, we suggested strengthening welfare services for open adoption families, implementing education to better understand adoption, education for school teachers, students, and welfare staff, providing practical programs for adoptive families, and promoting self-help groups.

First, HEE curriculum included environmental knowledge, values and attitudes, competence, and practice and participation in environmental education and related categories in achievement standards and learning elements. Second, since HEE curriculum has a teaching-learning instruction plan based on project-based learning that allows learners to recognize and solve problems themselves was developed based on the real life-centered learning themes related to environmental education. It was also proposed that the subject of HEE has a high correlation with environmental competence and environmental practice, and thus environmental contents that can raise students' interests in society and environment should be added to the HEE curriculum. The teaching-learning instruction developed in this study can be used for classes such as HEE classes or free semeste. A follow up study would need to test the educational effects of this teaching and learning plan by implementing it to the actual class.

  • As a case study, we analyzed the professor's teaching professionalism in college of science-engineering based on pedagogical content knowledge. Two professors from the college of science-engineering located in Chungcheongbuk-do participated in this study. After collecting their syllabi, we observed their classes and conducted semi-structured interview before and after the classes. Analysis were conducted on their syllabi, taped videos, field notes and transcripts of the interview. As a result, both professors' orientation to teaching was not only related to learning subject matter knowledge, but also developing job competencies or communication skills. Their orientations were transformed according to the educational situation. After establishing the final learning goals, the professors organized weekly plan by listing the topics. However, they were unaware that the goals of each topic should be presented in detail in the class. Also, one of them presented a lack of understanding of the students' prior knowledge and showed low understanding of what aspects of the topics make students difficult to learn. In addition, the two professors applied various teaching strategies such as giving examples, questioning, and problem solving, but the degree of students' participation was not enough in the process of teaching. In the aspect of assessment, the professors had low understanding in students' achievement or feedback. Based on the results of the analysis, this study proposed methods and strategies for improving the teaching professionalism of science-engineering professors.

For this purpose, we extracted the core contents of schools' play environments and we developed a checklist that schools can use to evaluate their own play environments. We reviewed the UN Committee on the Rights of Children and the General Comments No. 17. Through this process, we found 16 core contents that the play environment should have. We conducted focus group interviews with children, parents and teachers, who are principle people involved with school play. The focus group interviews discussed the basic elements of the school play environment. The contents' validity was reviewed by a group of professionals. Based on this, we created an evaluation checklist with 10 major areas of the school play environment. The 10 areas of the school play environment evaluation scale are as follows. The ten areas of the play environment assessment scale for the school environment to ensure children's right to play are sufficient play time, sufficient play space, a child's best interests and the child's participation, nondiscrimination, diversity and freedom, challenge and adventure, safety, school policy, the play has an educating component, and community cooperation.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine a monitoring method, management zones, and maintenance strategies for water friendly facilities in urban streams after the completion of ecological restoration projects. Maintenance monitoring items are composed of 'use space& facilities', 'trails& bike roads', 'access', and 'boards'. The evaluation standards of water friendly facilities are 'maintenance conditions', 'safety', and 'usage level' which are rated as 'good', 'moderate', and 'poor'. Through a field survey and evaluation of 15 stream sections in Jeonjucheon, the management levels of each water friendly facility are determined as 'priority maintenance', 'general maintenance', 'maintain/remove', and 'remove'. Based on the evaluation results, management zones and maintenance strategies are proposed for each stream section. As a results, the stream sections of J2, J3, J4, and J9 which have 5 to 9 facilities with 'priority maintenance' are determined as 'intensive management zone'. The stream sections of J5, J6, J7, J8, J11, and J14 which have 1 to 3 facilities with 'priority maintenance' are determined as 'regular management zone'. The stream sections of J1, J10, J12, J13, and J15 which have no facilities with 'priority maintenance' are determined as 'minimum management zone'. The process of monitoring & evaluation system and determining management zones can be applied to establish a systematic maintenance plan for water friendly facilities by participation of governance in the future.

  • This study is to suggest necessary improvements of inconvenient elements as well as the ergonomic design standard to develop disabled cars by evaluating the types of needs and observing the behavior characteristics on their car use and the survey on the complaints of the disabled drivers and their guardians in the use of disabled car. The results of this study are as follows. First, both the disabled drivers and their guardians are found to feel high inconvenience and low satisfaction with the cars they use now. Second, the disabled owner-drivers also answered in a same way as guardians. They find the most difficulty in moving the supporting equipment to get into and out of a car. Both the owner-drivers with disabilities and guardians complained of lack of handiness they face when they wear the seat belts and sitting on the seats. In view of this, a disabled car to be developed should have ergonomic design for its seats and the safety of the seatbelt as well as trouble-free supporting equipment helping them move. Third, rather than owner-drivers with handicaps, guardians expressed more difficulties and less contentment with the cars for the disabled, which is reckoned to lead to the changes of perspectives on development of cars for the disabled breaking away from existing viewpoints focusing on the accessibility to the vehicles. Fourth, both owner-drivers and guardians showed higher interests in driving and other safety and convenience measures than in using supporting equipment to get into and out of vehicles, implying that rather than the accessibility to get into and out of a car, convenience should primarily be taken into account for the design of the disabled car. Fifth, the auto-manufacturer is to give prior thought to user convenience when developing a car in practice. For this, the developer may have the disabled car users join the process of development as well as asking experts for help and participation.

  • The present study aims to examine the assistive technology service operation system[ATSOS] of the support system for independent living[SSIL] which was introduced after the enactment of the Law of Assisting the Independence for Persons with Disabilities[LAIPD] and to discuss its implications in the development of the assistive technology service delivery system[ATSDS] and the related measures for promoting the assistive technology industry in Korea. For this purpose, the literature review and the field study were employed. The research findings showed that the Japanese SSIL, which adopted the user payment system as measures to establish the sustainable ATSOS, arranged the consumer participation structure through substantial cooperation among related government departments. The result of this study indicates the need to secure the consumer's right to choose in a comprehensive utilization process of assistive technology services as for the establishment of the ATSDS in Korea. Furthermore, the arrangements for practical cooperative strategies among related government departments are encouraged.
