  • In this paper, a recurrent cerebellar modulation articulation control (RCMAC) has been developed for improvement of noise attenuation performance in active noise control system. For the narrow band noise, a filter-x least mean square (FXLMS) method has bee frequently employed as an algorithm for active noise control (ANC) and has a partial satisfactory noise attenuation performance. However, noise attenuation performance of an ANC system with FXLMS method is poor for broad band noise and nonlinear path since it has linear filtering structure. Thus, an ANC system using RCMAC is proposed to improve this problem. Some simulations in duct system using harmonic motor noise and KTX cabin noise as a noise source were executed. It is shown that satisfactory noise attenuation performance can be obtained.

  • WiBro radio frequency (RF) repeater is used for solving the problem of partial shadow areas in the wireless communication field that uses time-division duplexing (TDD) mode. In this paper, a method to efficiently generate TDD signals for WiBro RF repeater is proposed and its digital circuit is implemented. A TDD signal is detected from RF signals transmitted/received to/from RF repeater and then inputted again into the RF repeater, so that it can operate normally. First, the envelope of downlink signals is detected and then clamped to extract the basic form of a TDD signal using an operational amplifier circuit. Next, the TDD signal is generated by restoring and filtering the shape which has been distorted by the wireless channel. The algorithm and system to acquire TDD signal are developed with a goal to have simple but powerful functions with as little cost as possible. The proposed method is implemented as an RF-digital integrated system and verified through the experiments under the same condition as actual WiBro service environment.

  • The major problems of recent object tracking methods are related to the inefficient detection of moving objects due to occlusions, noisy background and inconsistent body motion. This paper presents a robust method for the detection and tracking of a moving in infrared animal videos. The tracking system is based on adaptive optical flow generation, Gaussian mixture and Kalman filtering. The adaptive Gaussian model of optical flow (GMOF) is used to extract foreground and noises are removed based on the object motion. Kalman filter enables the prediction of the object position in the presence of partial occlusions, and changes the size of the animal detected automatically along the image sequence. The presented method is evaluated in various environments of unstable background because of winds, and illuminations changes. The results show that our approach is more robust to background noises and performs better than previous methods.

  • We propose a content-based image retrieval system that uses a combination of completed local binary pattern (CLBP) and color autocorrelogram. CLBP features are extracted on a multi-resolution multi-direction filtered domain of value component. Color autocorrelogram features are extracted in two dimensions of hue and saturation components. Experiment results revealed that the proposed method yields a lot of improvement when compared with the methods that use partial features employed in the proposed method. It is also superior to the conventional CLBP, the color autocorrelogram using R, G, and B components, and the multichannel decoded local binary pattern which is one of the latest methods.

  • Most morphological analysis methods require repetitive procedures of input character code conversion, segmentation and lemmatization of constituent morphemes, filtering of candidate results through looking up lexicons, which causes run-time inefficiency. To alleviate such problem of run-time inefficiency, many systems have introduced the notion of 'pre-analysis' of words. However, this method based on pre-analysis dictionary of surface also has a critical drawback in its practical application because the size of the dictionaries increases indefinite to cover all words. This paper hybridizes both extreme approaches methodologically to overcome the problems of the two, and presents a method of morphological analysis based on pre-analysis of partial words. Under such hybridized scheme, most computational overheads, such as segmentation and lemmatization of morphemes, are shifted to building-up processes of the pre-analysis dictionaries and the run-time dictionary look-ups are greatly reduced, so as to enhance the run-time performance of the system. Moreover, additional computing overheads such as input character code conversion can also be avoided because this method relies upon no graphemic processing.

  • Energetic particle strikes the device and induces data corruption in the configuration memory (CRAM), causing errors and even malfunctions in a system on chip (SoC). Software-based fault injection is a convenient way to assess device performance. In this paper, dynamic partial reconfiguration (DPR) is adopted to make fault injection on a Xilinx 16 nm FinFET Ultrascale+ MPSoC. And the reconfiguration module implements the Sobel and Gaussian image filtering, respectively. Fault injections are executed on the static and reconfiguration modules' bitstreams, respectively. Another contribution is that the failure modes and effects analysis (FMEA) method is applied to evaluate the system reliability, according to the obtained injection results. This paper proposes a software-based solution to estimate programmable device vulnerability.

  • As the internet has become a mainstream information tool, searching answers has become crucial as well. The collaborative filtering estimates and recommends items based upon the similar preference. However, because it refers to partial users information who have the similar preference, it tends to ignore the rest. In this paper, we propose the apparel coordination based on human sensibility ergonomics using the female students preference. This proposed method calculates evaluation values using fitness function based genetic algorithm, and gathers users through a-cut. Finally, the collaborative filtering recommends apparel coordination. To estimate the performance, the suggested method is compared with FAIMS-I, FAIMS-II in the questionnaire dataset.

  • Pixel values of contrast enhanced computed tomography (CE-CT) images are randomly changed. Also, the middle liver part has a problem to segregate the liver structure because of similar gray-level values of a pancreas in the abdomen. In this paper, an automatic liver segmentation method using a partial histogram threshold (PHT) algorithm is proposed for overcoming randomness of CE-CT images and removing the pancreas. After histogram transformation, adaptive multi-modal threshold is used to find the range of gray-level values of the liver structure. Also, the PHT algorithm is performed for removing the pancreas. Then, morphological filtering is processed for removing of unnecessary objects and smoothing of the boundary. Four CE-CT slices of eight patients were selected to evaluate the proposed method. As the average of normalized average area of the automatic segmented method II (ASM II) using the PHT and manual segmented method (MSM) are 0.1671 and 0.1711, these two method shows very small differences. Also, the average area error rate between the ASM II and MSM is 6.8339 %. From the results of experiments, the proposed method has similar performance as the MSM by medical Doctor.

  • In this research, an internal model based method is proposed to estimate the structural displacements and velocities under ambient excitation using only acceleration measurements. The structural response is assumed to be within the linear range. The excitation is assumed to be with zero mean and relatively broad bandwidth such that at least one of the fundamental modes of the structure is excited and dominates in the response. Using the structural modal parameters and partial knowledge of the bandwidth of the excitation, the internal models of the structure and the excitation can be respectively established, which can be used to form an autonomous state-space representation of the system. It is shown that structural displacements, velocities, and accelerations are the states of such a system, and it is fully observable when the measured output contains structural accelerations only. Reliable estimates of structural displacements and velocities are obtained using the standard Kalman filtering technique. The effectiveness and robustness of the proposed method has been demonstrated and evaluated via numerical simulations on an eight-story lumped mass model and experimental data of a three-story frame excited by the ground accelerations of actual earthquake records.

  • Recently, many research activities in the image processing area are concentrated on developing new algorithms by finding the solution of the 'diffusion equation'. The diffusion algorithms are expected to be utilized in numerous applications including noise removal and image restoration, edge detection, segmentation, etc. In this paper, at first, it will be shown that the anisotropic diffusion algorithms have the similar structure with the adaptive FIR filters with cross-shaped 5-tap kernel, and this relatively small-sized kernel causes many iterating procedure for satisfactory filtering effects. Moreover, it will also be shown that lots of modifications which are adopted to the conventional Gaussian diffusion method in order to weaken the edge blurring nature of the linear filtering process increases another computational burden. We propose a new Median diffusion scheme by replacing the adaptive linear filters in the diffusion process with the AWM (Adaptive Weighted Median) filters. A diffusion-equation-based adaptation scheme is also proposed. With the proposed scheme, the size of the diffusion kernel can be increased, and thus diffusion speed greatly increases. Simulation results shows that the proposed Median diffusion scheme outperforms in noise removal (especially impulsive noise), and edge preservation.
