  • This study aims to analyze the causality of placeness cognition which includes the place satisfaction, place attachment, place function, and behavioral intention of those who visit Suseong amusement park. A questionnaire survey was administered to 255 individuals who visited in Suseong amusement park. To conduct the analysis, six hypotheses were formulated and tested. While two hypotheses were statistically rejected, four hypotheses were accepted. First, place satisfaction was found to have a positive effect on place function (β=.577, p<0.001). Second, place attachment had a positive effect on behavioral intention (β=.450, p<0.001). Third, place function had a positive effect on behavioral intention (β=.247, p<0.05). Fourth, place function was found to have a positive effect on place attachment (β=.637, p<0.001). Unlike most existing research which has indicated that place satisfaction has a direct effect on behavioral intention this study suggests a that double mediating effect through place function and place attachment between place satisfaction and behavioral intention. In addition to increasing satisfaction through the environment of the Suseong Amusement Park, it is also necessary to improve the function of the place to ensure repeated visits from visitors.

  • In this letter, we present a new approximation for the twodimensional (2-D) Gaussian Q-function. The result is represented by only the one-dimensional (1-D) Gaussian Q-function. Unlike the previous 1-D Gaussian-type approximation, the presented approximation can be applied to compute the 2-D Gaussian Q-function with large correlations.

  • Gamma-ray irradiation is known to induce various mutations in plants caused by chromosome alterations. This study investigated disease responses of selected gamma-ray induced rice mutants generated from seven Japonica-type rice cultivars against three plant diseases. Among the tested 22 mutants, three gain-of-function mutants and six loss-of-function mutants against rice blast were obtained, as well as three loss-of-function mutants against bacterial leaf blight (BLB). Two of the loss-of-function mutants were susceptible to both rice blast and BLB. Gain-of-function mutation has not been frequently observed in rice plants, thus, the mutants can be used to identify loci of novel genes for the regulation of disease resistant response.

  • There is a new trend of incorporating software coverage metrics into software reliability modelling. This paper proposes a coverage-based software reliability growth model. Firstly, the failure rate function in coverage is analytically derived. Then it is shown that the number of detected faults follows a Nonhomogeneous Poisson distribution of which intensity function is the failure rate function in coverage. Practical applicability of the proposed models is examined by illustrative numerical examples.

  • This paper describes the maintenance function and administration function in the IWS (InterWorking System between PSTN and PSDN) which Interconnects the PSTN and PSDN. The former function is for the stable operation of the IWS system, and the latter function is for the management of the subscriber, billing and statistics informations.

  • In this paper, we use a generalized Brownian motion process to define a translation theorem. First we establish the translation theorem for function space integrals. We then obtain the general translation theorem for functionals on function space.

  • A gain-of-function mutant, SHM-11 obtained through gamma-ray mutagenesis, is resistant to rice blast caused by Magnaporthe grisea while wild type Sanghaehyanghyella is highly susceptible to the same disease. The resistance in the mutant was not race-specific when we tested with four races (KJ-201, KI-1113a, KI-313, KI-409) of M. grisea. To identify genes involved disease resistance in the gain-of-function mutant, genes specifically expressed in the mutant were selected by suppression subtractive hybridization using cDNAS of blast-inoculated mutant and wild type as a tester and a driver, respectively, Random 200 clones from the subtracted library were selected and analyzed by DNA sequencing. The sequenced genes represented three major groups related with disease resistance; genes encoding PR proteins, genes probably for phytoalexin biosynthesis, and genes involved in disease resistance signal transduction. A gene encoding a putative receptor-like protein kinase was identified as highly expressed only in the gain-of-function mutant after blast infection. The role of the putative receptor-like protein kinase gene during blast resistance will be further studied.

  • Response surface analysis has been a popular tool conducted by engineers in many processes. In this paper, response surface function, named partial least squares response surface function is proposed. Partial least squares response surface function is a function of partial least squares components and the response surface modeling is used in either a first-order or a second-order model. Also, this approach will have the engineers be able to do the response surface modeling and the process optimization even when the number of experimental runs is less than the number of model parameters. This idea is applied to the nondesign data and an application of partial least squares response surface function to the process optimization is considered.

  • A fault on the transmission line results in the variation of reactance and parametric uncertainties in the power system dynamics. In this case, we need a robust control to cope with these uncertainties. A sliding mode control, a sort of robust control, is known to be robust to parametric or state-dependent uncertainties if the bounding function of uncertain terms is determined a priori. However, in general, we can not readily determine the bounding function for the complex systems. Hence, in this paper we introduce a fuzzy system which can estimate the bounding function in relatively simple way. By the use of the proposed fuzzy system, determination of bounding function is made easier. We applied the proposed scheme to the stabilization of power system under the sudden fault on the transmission lines. The simulation result verifies the effectiveness of the scheme.
