Transmission Network Expansion Planning for the Penetration of Renewable Energy Sources - Determining an Optimal Installed Capacity of Renewable Energy Sources

  • Due to global environmental regulations and policies with rapid advancement of renewable energy technologies, the development type of renewable energy sources (RES) in power systems is expanding from small-scale distributed generation to large-scale grid-connected systems. In the near future, it is expected that RES achieves grid parity which means the equilibrium point where the power cost of RES is equal to the power costs of conventional generators. However, although RES would achieve the grid parity, the cost related with development of large-scale RES is still a big burden. Furthermore, it is hard to determine a suitable capacity of RES because of their output characteristics affected by locations and weather effects. Therefore, to determine an optimal capacity for RES becomes an important decision-making problem. This study proposes a method for determining an optimal installed capacity of RES from the business viewpoint of an independent power plant (IPP). In order to verify the proposed method, we have performed case studies on real power system in Incheon and Shiheung areas, South Korea.

Simplified 2-Dimensional Scaled Min-Sum Algorithm for LDPC Decoder

  • Among various decoding algorithms of low-density parity-check (LDPC) codes, the min-sum (MS) algorithm and its modified algorithms are widely adopted because of their computational simplicity compared to the sum-product (SP) algorithm with slight loss of decoding performance. In the MS algorithm, the magnitude of the output message from a check node (CN) processing unit is decided by either the smallest or the next smallest input message which are denoted as min1 and min2, respectively. It has been shown that multiplying a scaling factor to the output of CN message will improve the decoding performance. Further, Zhong et al. have shown that multiplying different scaling factors (called a 2-dimensional scaling) to min1 and min2 much increases the performance of the LDPC decoder. In this paper, the simplified 2-dimensional scaled (S2DS) MS algorithm is proposed. In the proposed algorithm, we figure out a pair of the most efficient scaling factors which multiplications can be replaced with combinations of addition and shift operations. Furthermore, one scaling operation is approximated by the difference between min1 and min2. The simulation results show that S2DS achieves the error correcting performance which is close to or outperforms the SP algorithm regardless of coding rates, and its computational complexity is the lowest comparing to modified versions of MS algorithms.

  • RAID는 디스크 배열 상에 데이터를 이중으로 저장하거나 패리티를 같이 사용하는 기법으로 디스크에 장애가 일어났을 경우 이를 복구하는 구조로 되어 있다. RAID5는 읽기와 큰 데이터 쓰기 접근을 수행하는 2차 저장 장치에서 높은 신뢰성과 비용 효과를 갖는다. 그러나 RAID5는 작은 크기의 데이터 쓰기에 대하여 패리티를 다시 계산하고 유지하는데 소비되는 오버헤드 때문에 성능이 저하된다. 본 논문에서는 패리티 로깅 기법에 의한 파일, 스트라이핑 크기에 대한 RAID5의 읽기/쓰기 성능을 비교 시스템의 성능을 개선한다.

  • WiMAX, WLAN 등의 무선통신 시스템에 사용되는 LDPC(low-density parity check) 복호기의 핵심 기능블록인 DFU(decoding function unit)의 회로 최적화를 제안한다. 최소합(min-sum) 복호 알고리듬 기반의 DFU는 2의 보수 값과 sign-magnitude 값 사이의 변환이 필요하여 회로가 복잡해진다. 본 논문에서는 sign-magnitude 연산 기반의 DFU를 설계하여 수체계 변환과정을 제거함으로써 회로를 간소화시키고 동작속도를 향상시켰다.

  • 클러스터 파일 시스템에서 가용성 지원을 위해 파일 복제 방법과 패리티 서버 방식이 사용되어 왔으나, 공간과 시간적 비용이 매우 크고 대량 장애 상황에 적절히 대처하지 못하는 문제가 있다. 따라서 시간적 지역성이 높은 중요한 파일에 대해서만 복제를 하거나 패리티를 생성하게 하여 효율적으로 데이터의 고가용성을 지원하는 HA-PVFS 파일 시스템을 제안한다. 이 파일 시스템에서는 동적으로 주어지는 파일 접근 빈도를 적응적으로 추정해 내기 위하여, 제한적인 정보를 통해 실제 접근 패턴을 정확히 판단하는 알고리즘을 사용하고, 성능 저하를 최소화하기 위해 지연 업데이트 방식과 릴레이식 복제를 사용한다.

  • This study was carried out to establish an effective and practical system for commercialization of embryo production techniques by analyzing several factors influencing in vivo embryo production on condition of donors treated FSH-P and SUPER-OV in Korean native cattle. In vivo embryos were flushed 226 times from 128 donors. The results obtained for the factors influencing in vivo embryo production by conditionof donors treated FSH-P and SUPER-OV were as follows :1. Age and parity of donors did not affect the transferable and freezable embryos among the treatments in FSH-P but the transferable and freezable embryos were decreased after 6 years old and 4th parity in SUPER-OV(P<0.01). 2. The production of embryos on the weight of donors was higher in over 400kg of body weight in FSH-P(P<0.01) and was higher in over 450kg than 400~450kg of body weight in SUPER-OV(P<0.05). For FSH-P embryo production was better responded in 350~450kg of body weight with 30~32mg doses, and showed a better result in over 450kg body weight with 32~34mg doses.(Key Words : in vivo embryo, donors, FSH-P SUPER-OV)

IEEE 802.11n WLAN용 다중모드 LPDC 복호기의 최적 설계조건 분석 (An analysis of Optimal Design Conditions of Multi-mode LDPC Decoder for IEEE 802.11n WLAN System)

  • IEEE 802.11n 표준에 제시된 3가지 블록길이(648, 1296, 1944)와 4가지 부호율(1/2, 2/3, 3/4, 5/6)을 지원하는 다중모드 LDPC(low density parity check) 복호기의 최적 설계조건을 분석하였다. 최소합 알고리듬과 layered 복호방식이 적용된 LDPC 복호기의 고정소수점(fixed-point) 시뮬레이션 모델을 Matlab으로 개발하였다. 고정소수점 시뮬레이션을 통해 복호기 내부 비트 폭, 정수 부분과 소수 부분의 비트 폭에 따른 복호 수렴속도를 분석하여 다중모드 LDPC 복호기의 하드웨어 구현을 위한 최적의 설계조건을 탐색하였으며, 블록길이와 부호율에 따른 복호성능을 분석하였다.

  • 본 연구에서는 공유메모리 병렬 컴퓨터 환경에서 N개의 key를 $O(log^2N)$ 시간에 정렬 할 수 있는 병 알고리즘인 SARED-MEMORY-BS와 REDUCED-BS를 설계하였다. REDICED-BS 알고리즘은 각각 로세서에 있는 local memory를 효율적으로 사용할 수 있도록 제안한 parity전략을 사용하였다. 각각의 프로세서에 있는 local memo교를 효율적으로 사용함으로써 REDUCED-BS 알고리즘은 SHARED-MEMORY-BS 알고리즘에 비햐여 통신의 빈도수가 약 1/2정도 감소된 것으로 나타났다. 결과적으로 REDUCED-BS 알고리즘은 병렬 정렬시 통신을 감소시킴으로써 컴퓨터의 사용 효율을 향상시킬 수 있다.

30대 초반의 초산, 경산부의 CBC 및 HRV 비교 (The Comparison of CBC and HRV in the Early 30s, According to Parity)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to compare the CBC and HRV of postpartum women in the early 30s. according to parity. Methods: This study was done on 107 postpartum women between 30 and 34 years who admitted for postpartum care in Oriental Hospital of Woosuk University from 3rd February 2008 to 19th September 2008. They took the test of CBC and HRV. The SPSS 12.0 for windows was used to analyze the data and the independent samples t-test were used to verify the results. Results: 1. WBC and Grn of primipara group significantly increased compared with that of multipara group. LYM of multipara group significantly increased compared with that of primipara group. 2. Mean-RR and Complexity of multipara group significantly increased compared with that of primipara group. Mean-HR of primipara group significantly increased compared with that of multipara group. 3. Ln (HF) and Normalized HF of multipara group significantly increased compared with that of primipara group. Normalized LF of primipara group significantly increased compared with that of multipara group. Conclusion: The findings suggest that activation of the sympathetic nervous system in primipara group is higher than in multipara group. and activation of the parasympathetic nervous system in primipara group is lower than in multipara group.

국내 주식과 미 달러를 이용한 투자전략에 관한 연구 (An Investigation of Trading Strategies using Korean Stocks and U.S. Dollar)

  • Purpose - This study compares the performances of dynamic asset allocation strategies using Korean stocks and U.S. dollar, which have been negatively correlated for a long time, to examine the diversification effects in the portfolios of them. Design/methodology/approach - In the current study, we use KOSPI200 index, as a proxy of the aggregated portfolio of Korean stocks, and USDKRW foreign exchange rate to implement various portfolio management strategies. We consider the equally-weighted, risk-parity, minimum variance, most diversified, and growth optimal portfolios for comparison. Findings - We first find the enhancement of risk adjusted returns due to risk reduction rather than return increasement for all the portfolios of consideration. Second, the enhancement is more pronounced for the trading strategies using correlations as well as volatilities compared to those using volatilities only. Third, the diversification effect has become stronger after the global financial crisis in 2008. Lastly, we find that the performance of the growth optimal portfolio can be improved by utilizing the well-known momentum phenomenon in stock markets to select the length of the sample period to estimate the expected return. Research implications or Originality - This study shows the potential benefits of adding the U.S. dollar to the portfolios of Korean stocks. The current study is the first to investigate the portfolio of Korean stocks and U.S. dollar from investment perspective.
