Quasi-Cyclic LDPC Codes using Superposition Matrices and Their Layered Decoders for Wibro Systems (Wibro 시스템에서 중첩 행렬을 이용한 준 순환 LDPC 부호의 설계 및 계층 복호기)

  • Most communication systems including Wibro use quasi-cyclic LDPC codes composed of circulants. However, it is very difficult to design quasi-cyclic(QC) LDPC codes with optimal degree distribution satisfying conditions on layered decoding and girth due to the restriction of the size of its base matrix. In this paper, we propose a good solution by introducing superposition matrices to QC LDPC codes. We derive the conditions on checking girth of QC LDPC codes with superposition matrices, and propose new decoder to support layered decoding both for original QC LDPC codes and their modifications with superposition matrices. Simulation results show considerable improvements to convergence speed and error-correcting performance of proposed scheme which adopts QC LDPC codes with superposition matrices.

Factors Affecting Estrous Exhibition and Conception following n Single Administration of $PGF_{2{\alpha}}$ in Dairy Cows ($PGF_{2{\alpha}}$ 투여에 의한 젖소의 발정동기화 처리시 발정발현 및 수태에 영향을 미치는 요인)

  • This study determined the effects of several reproductive factors at prostaglandin $F_{2{\alpha}}\;(PGF_{2{\alpha}})$ administration on the subsequent estrous exhibition and conception. Three hundreds and twenty six dairy cows in seven dairy herds received a 25 mg $PGF_{2{\alpha}}$ after confirming the presence of corpus luteum (CL) by ultrasonography, and the cows exhibited estrus within 7 days following $PGF_{2{\alpha}}$ administration were artificially inseminated (AI). Two hundreds cows among the 326 cows received additional ultrasonography at $PGF_{2{\alpha}}$ administration to measure the diameters of the largest follicle and CL on ovaries, and blood samples collected from the cows were analyzed for serum progesterone (P4) level. Cow parity, days open, body condition score (BCS), season and herd variables were recorded. Of the treated 326 cows, 171 cows (52.5%) showed estrus within 7 days after treatment, and the conception rate following AI was 37.4% (64/171). There were significant differences on the estrous exhibition ($31.3{\sim}65.8%$, p<0.01) and conception rates ($23.1{\sim}66.7%$, p<0.05) among the herds, while cow parity, days open, BCS and season did not affect the subsequent estrous exhibition and conception rates. The diameters of the largest follicle and CL on ovaries, and serum P4 level at the $PGF_{2{\alpha}}$ administration were not related to the subsequent estrous exhibition and conception. The results indicate that the improved outcomes of synchronization of estrus using a single $PGF_{2{\alpha}}$ administration may be related to the appropriate management of the herd.

High-Throughput QC-LDPC Decoder Architecture for Multi-Gigabit WPAN Systems (멀티-기가비트 WPAN 시스템을 위한 고속 QC-LDPC 복호기 구조)

  • A high-throughput Quasi-Cyclic Low-Density Parity-Check (QC-LDPC) decoder architecture is proposed for 60GHz multi-gigabit wireless personal area network (WPAN) applications. Two novel techniques which can apply to our selected QC-LDPC code are proposed, including a four block-parallel layered decoding technique and fixed wire network. Two-stage pipelining and four block-parallel layered decoding techniques are used to improve the clock speed and decoding throughput. Also, the fixed wire network is proposed to simplify the switch network. A 672-bit, rate-1/2 QC-LDPC decoder architecture has been designed and implemented using 90-nm CMOS standard cell technology. Synthesis results show that the proposed QC-LDPC decoder requires a 794K gate and can operate at 290 MHz to achieve a data throughput of 3.9 Gbps with a maximum of 12 iterations, which meet the requirement of 60 GHz WPAN applications.

Adaptive spatio-temporal deinterlacting algorithm based on bi-directional motion compensation (양방향 움직임 기반의 시공간 적응형 디인터레이싱 기법)

  • In this paper, we propose a motion-adaptive de-interlacing method using motion compensated interpolation. In a conventional motion compensated method, a simple pre-filter such as line averaging is applied to interpolate missing lines before the motion estimation. However, this method causes interpolation error because of inaccurate motion estimation and compensation. In the proposed method, EBMF(Edge Based Median Filter) as a pre-filter is applied, and new matching method, which uses two same-parity fields and opposite-parity field as references, is proposed. For further improvement, motion correction filter is proposed to reduce the interpolation error caused by incorrect motion. Simulation results show that the proposed method provides better performance than existing methods.

Physiological Fuzzy Single Layer Learning Algorithm for Image Recognition (영상 인식을 위한 생리학적 퍼지 단층 학습 알고리즘)

  • In this paper, a new fuzzy single layer learning algorithm is proposed, which shows improved learning time and convergence property than that of the conventional fuzzy single layer perceptron algorithms. First, we investigate the structure of physiological neurons of the nervous system and propose new neuron structures based on fuzzy logic. And by using the proposed fuzzy neuron structures, the model and learning algorithm of Physiological Fuzzy Single Layer Perceptron(P-FSLP) are proposed. For the evaluation of performance of the P-FSLP algorithm, we applied the conventional fuzzy single layer perceptron algorithms and the P-FSLP algorithm to three experiments including Exclusive OR problem, the 3-bit parity bit problem and the recognition of car licence plates, which is an application of image recognition, and evaluated the performance of the algorithms. The experimentation results showed that the proposed P-FSLP algorithm reduces the possibility of local minima more than the conventional fuzzy single layer perceptrons do, and enhances the time and convergence for learning. Furthermore, we found that the P-FSLP algorithm has the great capability for image recognition applications.

Low Complexity Iterative Detection and Decoding using an Adaptive Early Termination Scheme in MIMO system (다중 안테나 시스템에서 적응적 조기 종료를 이용한 낮은 복잡도 반복 검출 및 복호기)

  • The iterative detection and decoding (IDD) has been shown to dramatically improve the bit error rate (BER) performance of the multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) communication systems. However, these techniques require a high computational complexity since it is required to compute the soft decisions for each bit. In this paper, we show IDD comprised of sphere decoder with low-density parity check (LDPC) codes and present the tree search strategy, called a layer symbol search (LSS), to obtain soft decisions with a low computational complexity. In addition, an adaptive early termination is proposed to reduce the computational complexity during an iteration between an inner sphere decoder and an outer LDPC decoder. It is shown that the proposed approach can achieve the performance similar to an existing algorithm with 70% lower computational complexity compared to the conventional algorithms.

A Design of LDPC Decoder for IEEE 802.11n Wireless LAN (IEEE 802.11n 무선 랜 표준용 LDPC 복호기 설계)

  • This paper describes a LDPC decoder for IEEE 802.11n wireless LAN standard. The designed processor supports parity check matrix for block length of 1,944 and code rate of 1/2 in IEEE 802.11n standard. To reduce hardware complexity, the min-sum algorithm and layered decoding architecture are adopted. A novel memory reduction technique suitable for min-sum algorithm was devised, and our design reduces memory size to 25% of conventional method. The LDPC decoder processor synthesized with a $0.35-{\mu}m$ CMOS cell library has 200,400 gates and memory of 19,400 bits, and the estimated throughput is about 135 Mbps at 80 MHz@2.5v. The designed processor is verified by FPGA implementation and BER evaluation to validate the usefulness as a LDPC decoder.

  • To improve the BER of OFDM on a fading channel, a low-density parity check coded OFDM system is proposed in this paper. LDPC codes are decoded with Sum-Product or Belief Propagation Algorithm known by probability propagation algorithm. When LDPC codes are applied to OFDM system, the BER performance is dependant on the iteration number of decoding. To improve the spectral efficiency, multi-level modulations are used in mobile communication system. But, It is not clear how to decode LDPC code used in OFDM with multi-level modulations. In the paper, a decoding algorithm is described for LDPC coded OFDM with MPSK. When use the proposed decoding algorithm, we get the good BER for AWGN and a Fading Channel. Simulation results show that the proposed decoding algorithm is confirmed LDPC coded OFDM with MPSK.

Association between PCR-RFLP of Melatonin Receptor 1a Gene and High Prolificacy in Small Tail Han Sheep

  • Melatonin regulates circadian rhythms and reproduction changes in seasonally reproductive mammals through binding to high-affinity, G-protein-coupled receptors. Small Tail Han sheep that has significant characteristics of high prolificacy and nonseasonal ovulatory activity is an excellent local sheep breed in P. R. China. The exon 2 of the ovine melatonin receptor 1a (MTNR1A) gene was amplified and a uniform fragment of 824 bp was obtained in 150 ewes of Small Tail Han sheep. The 824 bp PCR product was digested with restriction endonucleases Mnl I and Rsa I, and genetic polymorphism was detected by PCR-RFLP. Polymorphic Mnl I site was detected at base position 605 of the exon 2 of the MTNR1A gene. There were two kinds of genotypes in Small Tail Han sheep, AB (303 bp, 236 bp/67 bp) and BB (236 bp/67 bp, 236 bp/67 bp). The results indicated that genotype AA (303 bp, 303 bp) at Mnl I-RFLP site did not exist in non-seasonal estrous Small Tail Han sheep, which suggested that there was an association between genotype AA (303 bp, 303 bp) and reproductive seasonality in sheep. Polymorphic Rsa I site was detected at base position 604 of the exon 2 of the MTNR1A gene. Three kinds of genotypes were found in Small Tail Han sheep, AA (290 bp, 290 bp), AB (290 bp, 267 bp/23 bp) and BB (267 bp/23 bp, 267 bp/23 bp). Least squares means of litter size in the first parity and the second parity for genotype AA (290 bp, 290 bp) at Rsa I-RFLP site were 0.43 and 1.06 more than those for genotype AB (290 bp, 267 bp/23 bp) in Small Tail Han sheep.

The impact of the duration of retained placenta on postpartum diseases and culling rates in dairy cows

  • The objective of this study was to evaluate the duration of retained placenta (RP) on postpartum diseases and culling in dairy cows. Data were collected from 456 Holstein cows between 2008 and 2010. RP (${\geq}$ 24 h after parturition) and postpartum diseases were diagnosed by farm managers and a veterinarian according to standardized definitions. The overall incidence rate of RP was 14.0%, and the incidence rate of RP with fourth and higher parity was two times that of cows having offspring for the first time. The duration of RP was 2 to 15 days with a mean of 6.8 days, except for cases of fourth and higher parity which had a mean of 10.5 days. A total of 63% of cows with RP had postpartum diseases. Among the cows diagnosed with RP, 23.4% developed metritis, and of those, 35.3% developed endometritis or pyometra. A total of 25% (n = 16) cows with RP were culled within 60 days in milk (DIM) and of those culled, 75% (n = 12) had postpartum diseases. These results suggest that RP increases the risk of postpartum diseases such as metritis and mastitis and is a culling hazard up to 60 DIM.
