In this paper, an improved decoding scheme for low-complexity parity-check(LCPC) code with small code length is proposed. The LCPC code is less complex than the turbo code or low density parity check(LDPC) code and requires less memory, making it suitable for communication between internet-of-things(IoT) devices. The IoT devices are required to have low complexity due to limited energy and have a low end-to-end delay time. In addition, since the packet length to be transmitted is small and the signal processing capability of the IoT terminal is small, the LCPC coding system should be as simple as possible. The LCPC code can correct all single errors and correct some of the two errors. In this paper, the proposed decoding scheme improves the bit error rate(BER) performance without increasing the complexity by correcting both errors using the soft value of the modulator output stage. As a result of the simulation using the proposed decoding scheme, the code gain of about 1.1 [dB] was obtained at the bit error rate of $10^{-5}$ compared with the existing decoding method.

Objective: Milk fatty acid (FA) is a main nutritional component that markedly effects human health. Intentional modification of the FA profile has the potential to improve milk quality. This study aimed at the factors affecting elevated FA levels and the estimation of the genetic parameters for milk FAs in the Korean Holstein population. Methods: Total 885,249 repeated test-day milk records including, milk yield, saturated fatty acids (SFA), polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA), monounsaturated fatty acids (MUFA), total unsaturated fatty acids (TUFA), fat and protein percentages were analyzed using CombiFoss FT+ system (Foss Analytical A/S, Denmark). Genetic parameters were estimated by the restricted maximum likelihood procedure based on the repeatability model using the Wombat program. Results: The FA profile varies along with the lactation and the energy balance (EB). With the negative EB in early lactation, mobilization of body fat reserves elevates the desirable FA levels. As a result of that, milk quality is increased by means of nutritionally and usability aspects during the early lactation. Moreover, heritability estimates for SFA, MUFA, PUFA, TUFA were 0.33, 0.42, 0.37, 0.41 respectively. According to the parity wise heritability analysis, first parity cows had relatively lower heritability for SFAs (0.19) than later parities (0.28). Conclusion: Genetic parameters indicated that FAs were under stronger genetic control. Therefore, we suggest implementing animal breeding programs towards improving the milk FA profile.

The aim of this study was to analyze post-weaning reproductive performance of Large White sows in relation to season, parity and their lactation performance under tropical conditions in Guadeloupe (French West Indies, $16^{\circ}$ Lat. N, $61^{\circ}$ Long. W.). This work was based on data recorded in the experimental unit of INRA from January 1993 to December 2003. Two seasons were determined a posteriori from climatic parameters recorded continuously in a station close to the experimental unit. Mean ambient temperature was higher during the hot season than the warm season ($26^{\circ}C$ vs. $24^{\circ}C$) but relative humidity was comparable for both seasons (i.e. 87% on average). Season had a significant effect on all reproductive parameters analyzed. Primiparous sows weaned in the hot season had a higher probability of a prolonged weaning to estrus interval, WEI (odds ratio was 4.1; p<0.01) but multiparous sows were not affected. A higher probability of a prolonged weaning to conception interval, WCI (odds ratio >2.5, p<0.01) and a lower subsequent farrowing rate (-10%, p<0.01) were found for sows weaned in the hot season. A higher daily feed intake during lactation reduced the probability of a prolonged WEI (p<0.05). Body weight and average back-fat thickness at farrowing affected WEI and WCI (p<0.05), whereas body weight and average backfat thickness change in lactation did not. This study confirms the negative effects of the hot season on primiparous reproductive performance. It also indicates that lactation performance influences sow non-productive period.

Background: As in other developing countries, cervical cancer is the most frequent gynecologic malignancy in Indonesia. Persistent high risk genotypes of human papillomavirus (HPV) that infect the cervical tissue have been established as the etiology of cervical cancer. This study aimed to explore the profile of cervical cancer patients and the infected HPV genotypes at Dr. Hasan Sadikin General Hospital-Bandung. Materials and Methods: During the year 2010, 554 cervical cancer patients were registered. In a subset of the patients during July - November 2010, 40 randomized fresh biopsies were tested for HPV genotype after obtained informed consent. The distribution of HPV genotypes and the association to risk factors were analysed. Results: The result showed that 62.5% of the tested biopsies were infected by multiple HPV infections, with HPV-16 found in most of the cervical cancer patients (90%). Marriage at age younger than 16 years old was statistically significant in relation to multiple HPV infection (p=0.003), but not parity more than three times (p=0.59). Conclusions: Although high paritiy in our study was not associated with multiple HPV infection, good family planning programs and reproductive health education need to be emphasized in Indonesia as high parity and marriage at young age might increase the chance of cervical cancer development.
The improved belief-propagation-based algorithms, such as normalized min-sum algorithm (NMSA) or offset min-sum algorithm (OMSA), are widely used to decode LDPC(Low-Density Parity-Check) codes because they are less computationally complex and work well even at low SNR(Signal-to-Noise Ratio). However, these algorithms work well only when an appropriate normalization factor or offset value is used. A new method that uses a CMD(Check Node Message Distribution) chart and least-square method, which has been recently proposed, has advantages on computational complexity over other approaches to get optimal coefficients. Furthermore, this method can be used to derive coefficients for each iteration. In this paper, we apply this method and propose an algorithm to derive a combination of normalization factor and offset value for a combined normalized and offset min-sum algorithm to further improve the decoding of LDPC codes. Simulations on the next-generation broadcasting standards, ATSC 3.0 LDPC codes, prove that a combined normalized and offset min-sum algorithm which takes the proposed coefficients as correction coefficients shows the best BER performance among other decoding algorithms.

CAMC (constant amplitude multi-code) has a better performance of error correction in iterative decoding than SPCPC (single parity check product code). CAMC benefits from a processing gain since it belongs to a spread spectrum signal. We show that the processing gain enhances the performance of CAMC. Additional correction of bit errors is achieved in the de-spreading of iteratively decoded signal. If the number of errors which survived the iterative decoding is less than or equal to ($\sqrt{N}/2-1$), all of the bit errors are removed after the de-spreading. We also propose a stopping criterion in the iterative decoding, which is based on the histogram of EI (extrinsic information). The initial values of EI are randomly distributed, and then they converge to ($-E_{max}$) or ($+E_{max}$) over the iterations. The strength of the convergence reflects how successfully error correction process is performed. Experimental results show that the proposed method achieves a gain of 0.2 dB in Eb/No.
Background: The objective of this study was to underline that litter size as a key trait of sows needs new parameters to be evaluated and to target an individual optimum. Large individual variation in litter size affects both production and piglet's survival and health negatively. Therefore, two new traits were suggested and analyzed. Two data sets on 5509 purebred German Landrace sows and 3926 Large White and crossing sows including at least two parental generations and at least five parities were subjected to variance components analysis. Results: The new traits for evaluating litter size were derived from the individual numbers of total born piglets (TBP) per parity: In most cases, sows reach their maximum litter size in their fourth parity. Therefore, data from at least five parities were included. The first observable maximum and minimum of TBP, and the individual variation expressed by the range were targeted. Maximum of TBP being an observable trait in pig breeding and management yielded clearly higher heritability estimates ($h^2{\sim}0.3$) than those estimates predominantly reported so far. Maximum TBP gets closer to the genetic capacity for litter size than other litter traits. Minimum of TBP is positively correlated with the range of TBP ($r_p=0.48$, $r_g$ > 0.6). The correlation between maximum of TBP and its individually reached frequency was negative in both data sets ($r_p=-0.28$ and - 0.22, respectively). Estimated heritability coefficients for the range of TBP comprised a span of $h^2=0.06$ to 0.10. Conclusion: An optimum both for maximum and range of total born piglets in selecting sows is a way contributing to homogenous litters in order to improving the animal-related conditions both for piglets' welfare and economic management in pig.
This study was conducted to investigate reasons for culling of Chungcheong dairy herds and to investigate the relationships between cow parity, interval from calving to culling, or season and culling reasons. Lactation data from 826 cows on 9 dairy farms from 2013 to 2015, including reasons for culling, dates of birth, last calving, and culling, were analyzed. The overall culling rate was 29.8% (246/826), with mammary problems (23.2%) being the most prevalent reason for culling, followed by infertility (14.2%) and downer cow syndrome (11.0%). The culling rate varied among farms (18.8-43.1%, p < 0.05), but was greater in parity $4{\leq}(40.7%)$ than parities 1, 2, or 3 (17.9-23.6%), whereas the rate was less frequent during mid lactation (21.1%) than in early (36.2%) or late (42.7%) lactation. Moreover, the culling rate was greater during summer (35.8%) than other seasons (20.3-23.2%). Mammary problems, downer cow syndrome, and metabolic disorders were the more common reasons for culling during early lactation, whereas infertility was predominant during late lactation. Our data show that the culling rate in Chungcheong dairy herds was associated with cow parity, interval from calving to culling, and season, with the main reasons for the removal of cows from dairy herds being mammary problems, infertility, and downer cow syndrome.
This study was carried out to establish an effective system for embryo transfer techniques by analyzing several factors affecting in-vivo embryo transfer in Korean cattle. Embryos produced in-vivo were transferred into a total of 301 recipients The results obtained in studies on the factors affacting pregnancy rate after embryo transfer by condition of recipients were as follows ; 1. The pregnancy rate by age and parity of recipients showed high in 5~8 and over 12 years old(72.7~73.9%), and 3rd~4th parity(82.1%) for fresh embryos(P<0.05). The pregnancy rate did not differ by age and parity of recipients in frozen embryos. The pregnancy rate of frozen embryos tended to be similar to that of fresh embryos(38.5% and 25.0~36.7%). 2. The number of observation for normal estrus cycles of recipients did not differ In pregnancy rate between one and 2 times in fresh embryos(64.9%, 69.8%). The pregnancy rate by transferred frozen embryos showed significantly higher after 2 times of observation(P<0.05, 16.3%, 37.5%). The pregnancy rate by days open did not differ between fresh and frozen embryos. But the pregnancy rate was slightly higher in 12 months and 6 months of days open for fresh and frozen embryos, respectively(70.1~71.1% and 24.5%, respectively). 3. The pregnancy rate of transferred fresh and frozen embryos into right and left side of uterine horn did not differ(62.1% : 65.9% 25.0% : 24.3%, respectively). The pregnancy rate by the grade of CL was not different in fresh embryos, but the pregnancy rate was significantly higher in the grade A than B for frozen embryos(P<0.01, 43.2%, 16.2%).

This paper describes a design of low-density parity-check(LDPC) decoder supporting block length 2,304-bit and code rate 1/2 of IEEE 802.16e mobile WiMAX standard. The designed LDPC decoder employs the min-sum algorithm and partially parallel layered-decoding architecture which processes a sub-matrix of $96{\times}96$ in parallel. By exploiting the properties of the min-sum algorithm, a new memory reduction technique is proposed, which reduces check node memory by 46% compared to conventional method. Functional verification results show that it has average bit-error-rate(BER) of $4.34{\times}10^{-5}$ for AWGN channel with Fb/No=2.1dB. Our LDPC decoder synthesized with a $0.18{\mu}m$ CMOS cell library has 174,181 gates and 52,992 bits memory, and the estimated throughput is about 417 Mbps at 100-MHz@l.8-V.
