Objectives: This study aimed to examine the relationship between Chinese adolescents' academic performance and smartphone overdependence as well as the moderating effects of parental involvement. Method: For this study, a survey was conducted with 472 adolescent students in three middle schools (n = 224) and three high schools (n = 248) in Shanghai, China. The survey consisted of the "S-Scale for Smartphone Addiction," the "Parental Involvement Scale," and questions regarding perceived academic performance using a demographic questionnaire. Results: The following are the major findings. First, after controlling for the students' demographic characteristics, hierarchical multiple regression analysis revealed that the students' perceived academic performance was negatively related to the levels of smartphone overdependence. Second, this study found significant moderation effects of parental involvement on the relationship between academic performance and smartphone overdependence. Chinese adolescents with low levels of perceived academic performance and high levels of perceived parental involvement showed high levels of smartphone overdependence. Finally, this study found significant moderation effects of parental involvement on the relationship between academic performance and smartphone overdependence only in middle-school students. Conclusions: These results indicate the need for healthy smartphone use and education and therapy programs for Chinese parents and adolescent children to prevent smartphone overdependence.
This study investigates the infant's cognitive and motor development, mother's parenting knowledge, and father's participation of child-rearing according to demographic variables and child-care related variables. A total of 112 infants aged from 11.5 months to 12.5 months old were tested by Korean Bayley Scales of Infant Development II; in addition, their mothers participated in the survey. The major results were as follows: First, among five areas of parenting knowledge, mothers attained the highest score on socio-emotional development and the lowest on cognitive and language development. Second, fathers participation in child-rearing were related to their income and the time to start child-care center. Third, the development of infants were positively associated with the father's participation in child-rearing. The implications for designing child-care policy and parent education program were discussed.
The main purpose of this study was to examine factors affecting adolescents materialism and the relations between parenting, materialism and self-esteem in adolescents. The subjects were 439 first-grade high school students in Kang-nam area located in Seoul. The main results were as follows; (1) Material value was not significantly different according to gender, SES and parents education; (2) Adolescents whose parents are permissive or inconsistent have higher material value. On the other hand, adolescents whose parents are affectionate have relatively lower material value. And adolescents who communicate openly with their parents also have lower material value; (3) Lower material value was found for the adolescents whose self-esteem was high; (4) The mediating role of self-esteem was found: Adolescents self-esteem mediate the relations between parenting, parent-child communication style and material value of adolescents.

The main purpose of this study was to explore the variables predicting mothers' parenting attitudes in Korean-Japanese multi-cultural families in comparison to Korean families. Differences in parental beliefs, life-satisfaction and parenting attitudes between these two groups were also examined. Data were collected via questionnaires from 110 Japanese and 168 Korean mothers of young children. Results revealed that mothers' beliefs on value of child and parental role, life-satisfaction and parenting attitudes were different across the families. Costed-concept of child and low life-satisfaction predicted 'shaming' and 'coercive' parenting for Japanese mothers whereas parental role beliefs as an 'authority' figure predicted 'shaming' parenting for Korean mothers. Life-satisfaction was most influential to predict 'affectionate-rational' parenting for both group.
The purpose of this study was to examine 1) the relations among parent-reported, teacher-reported, and task-observed effortful control, and 2) the differences of preschoolers' effortful control based on preschoolers' gender and parenting behaviors (affectionate, controlled). In this study, the subjects were 221 preschoolers (104 boys, 117 girls) and their parents. The preschoolers' effortful controls was measured by Effortful Control Battery (Snack Delay, Turtle and Rabbit, and Red-Green Sign) and the Children's Behavior Questionnaire-Short Form. Parenting behavior was measured by the Parenting Style scale. The major results of this study were as follows. First, there were positive correlations between parent-reported effortful control and both teacher-reported and task-observed effortful control. Second, there were significant differences in preschoolers' effortful control by gender and level of affectionate parenting behavior. And there was an interaction effect between gender and level of affectionate parenting behavior on preschoolers' effortful control. The implications of this study were as follows. It is needed to evaluate effortful control in various circumstances and by multiple raters, and affectionate parenting behavior had an important role upon boys' effortful control rather than that of girls.

Purpose: This study was done to test a hypothesized model, the Biobehavioral Family Model (BBFM), on the relationship of family emotional climate, security of parent-child relationship, depression symptoms and eating problems in adolescent girls, to further understanding of eating problems in this population. Methods: With a convenience sample of 647 girls, aged 15 to 18, a self-report survey was conducted which included the Korean form of the Eating Attitude Test (EAT-26) to assess eating problems. Results: The estimated results of the structural equation modeling indicated a good fit of data to the hypothesized model proposing that family emotional climate and security of parent-child relationship were associated with the risk of eating problems by way of depression symptoms. That is, negative family emotional climate and insecure parent-child relationship increased the risk of eating problems indirectly by way of depression symptoms. Conclusion: The findings are consistent with the BBFM, which suggests a psychobiologic influence of specific family processes on children's stress-sensitive physical disease activity by way of depression symptoms. Therefore, the applicability of the BBFM for understanding adolescent girls' eating problems is supported. The psychobiologic pathways from depression to eating pathology should be addressed in future studies.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the trends of research on postpartum anger experienced by women after childbirth, through a narrative review. Methods: Articles published from 2008 to 2018 were searched in seven electronic databases using combinations of the terms 'anger', 'angry', 'aggress*', and 'postpartum'. Results: Ultimately seven studies were selected and analyzed. Six of the quantitative studies and one qualitative study were included and postpartum anger or anger was found to be measured in all six quantitative studies. Postpartum anger was influenced by hostility during pregnancy and women's dependence and self-criticism of women after childbirth. Attachment with parents in the past and affection between married couples in the present influenced the expression and management of anger. Conclusion: The results indicated that postpartum anger was influenced by internal and external factors such as the individual characteristics of women, past experiences, current marital relations and social support. However, there was no study focusing on postpartum anger and related factors in domestic context. Thus, we suggest future studys which clarify the concept of postpartum anger and its measurement so that awareness of postpartum anger can be improved and mediation could be developed.
The purpose of this study was to investigate how much adolescents use the internet and how much they are addicted to the internet, and to examine the relative effect of the personal and family related variables on the internet addiction. Data was collected through a questionnaire survey given to 420 students of middle school in Kwangju province. The data were analyzed by frequency, percentage, stepwise multi-regression analysis, Cronbach's $\alpha$, and Pearson's correlations coefficient. The major findings obtained from this study were as follows: 1. The proportion of internet addiction of adolescents was 9.1%. 2. Parent's control, positive family emotion and self-efficacy were proved to be the most significant variables. The internet addiction increased as the score of parent's control got higher, and the scores of the positive family emotion and the self-efficacy lower. 3. Because the positive family emotion was found to be a very important factor in determining internet addiction, this research proposes that the further family life education program should be developed to facilitate the normal family functioning in relations with preventing internet addiction.

Nurses should also provide husbands with satisfactory cares during childbirth.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the level of obesity and sexual knowledge between age-matched 168 postmenarcheal and 168 premenatcheal girls among 6th grade elementary school girls in Busan. Anthropometric measurements were taken for height and body weight of subjects for obesity and a questionnaire for sexual knowledge representing 5 categories was developed by researcher. For the statistical analysis of the collected data, frequency, Chi-square, t-test, ANOVA, and Pearson correlation were performed by SPSS WIN Vesion 12.0 program. These measurements of menarcheal grils were significantly higher than those of non-menacheal girls in height, body weight, BMI and obesity level. The sexual knowledge was low, expecially they didn't know well about sexual disease and contraception. There was no significant difference between two groups, but there was significant difference among obesity level, obesity group had sexual knowledge than others. And there were significant positive relations between the menarche and the obesity. The most important findings in the study showed that is needed the systemic and concrete sexual education in home, school and community, and especially by the professionals in the sex education field.
