In this paper, we propose a new architecture of Self-Organizing Fuzzy Polynomial Neural Networks (SOFPNN) by means of consecutive optimization and also discuss its comprehensive design methodology involving mechanisms of genetic optimization. The network is based on a structurally as well as parametrically optimized fuzzy polynomial neurons (FPNs) conducted with the aid of information granulation and genetic algorithms. In structurally identification of FPN, the design procedure applied in the construction of each layer of a SOFPNN deals with its structural optimization involving the selection of preferred nodes (or FPNs) with specific local characteristics and addresses specific aspects of parametric optimization. In addition, the fuzzy rules used in the networks exploit the notion of information granules defined over system's variables and formed through the process of information granulation. That is, we determine the initial location (apexes) of membership functions and initial values of polynomial function being used in the premised and consequence part of the fuzzy rules respectively. This granulation is realized with the aid of the hard c-menas clustering method (HCM). For the parametric identification, we obtained the effective model that the axes of MFs are identified by GA to reflect characteristic of given data. Especially, the genetically dynamic search method is introduced in the identification of parameter. It helps lead to rapidly optimal convergence over a limited region or a boundary condition. To evaluate the performance of the proposed model, the model is experimented with using two time series data(gas furnace process, nonlinear system data, and NOx process data).
Large superconducting magnets such as ITER (International Thermonuclear Experimental Research) or KSTAR (Korean Superconducting Tokamak Advanced Research) magnet system adopted a cable-in-conduit conductor (CICC) using a forced-flow cooling system. Main optimization criteria for the conductor design of superconducting magnet system are stability margin and CICC cooling requirements. A zero-dimensional method is applied for the calculation of stability and the conductor optimization. In order to increase conductor performance, three different strands, ITER HP-I and HP-II, and KSTAR HP-Ⅲ, are tested. The strand characteristics of KSTAR HP-Ⅲ are measured in the Samsung's PPMS and Jc measurement system, and applied for this study. Also, the strand diameters, 0.81 mm and 0.78 mm are considered for this study, due to design change. Based on this result, the proposed configuration of CICC has been fabricated.
In this paper, a control technique of Takagi-Sugeno (TS) fuzzy systems with parametric uncertainties is developed. The uncertain TS fuzzy system is represented as an uncertain multiple linear system. The control problem of TS fuzzy system is converted into the stabilization problem of a uncertain multiple linear system. A sufficient condition for robust stabilization is obtained in terms of linear matrix inequalities (LMI). A Design example is illustrated to show the effectiveness of the proposed method.

In this paper, a CAD/CAE integrated optimal design system is developed, in which design and analysis process is automated using CAD/CAE softwares for a complex model in which the modeling by parametric feature is not easy to apply. Unigraphics is used for CAD modeling, in which the process is automated by using UG/Knowledge Fusion for modeling itself and UG/Open API function for the other functions respectively. Structural analyses are also carried out automatically by ANSYS using the imported parasolid model. The developed system is applied for the PLS(Plasma Lighting System) consisting of more than 20 components, which is a next generation illumination system that is used to illuminate stadium or outdoor advertizing panel. The analyses include responses by static, wind and impact loads. As a result of analyses, tilt assembly, which is a link between upper and lower body, is found to be the most critical component bearing higher stresses. Experiment is conducted using MTS to validate the analysis result. Optimization is carried out using the software Visual DOC for the tilt assembly to minimize material volume while maintaining allowable stress level. As a result of optimization, the maximum stress is reduced by 57% from the existing design, though the material volume has increased by 21%.
In order to utilize 6-month precipitation forecasts (6 months at maximum) of Global Seasonal Forecast System version 5 (GloSea5), which is being provided by KMA (Korea Meteorological Administration) since 2014, for water resources management as well as other applications, it is needed to correct the forecast model's quantitative bias against observations. This study evaluated applicability of bias-correction skill in GloSea5 and selected an optimal method among 11 techniques that include probabilistic distribution type based, parametric, and non-parametric bias-correction to fix GloSea5's bias in precipitation forecasts. Non-parametric bias-correction provided the most similar results with observed data compared to other techniques in hindcast for the past events, yet relatively generated some discrepancies in forecast. On the contrary, parametric bias-correction produced the most reliable results in both hindcast and forecast periods. The results of this study are expected to be applicable to various applications using seasonal forecast model such as water resources operation and management, hydropower, agriculture, etc.
In this rarer, we introduce a new Fuzzy Polynomial Neural Networks (FPNNs)-like structure whose neuron is based on the Fuzzy Set-based Fuzzy Inference System (FS-FIS) and is different from that of FPNNs based on the Fuzzy relation-based Fuzzy Inference System (FR-FIS) and discuss the ability of the new FPNNs-like structurenamed Fuzzy Set-based Polynomial Neural Networks (FSPNN). The premise parts of their fuzzy rules are not identical, while the consequent parts of the both Networks (such as FPNN and FSPNN) are identical. This difference results from the angle of a viewpoint of partition of input space of system. In other word, from a point of view of FS-FIS, the input variables are mutually independent under input space of system, while from a viewpoint of FR-FIS they are related each other. In considering the structures of FPNN-like networks such as FPNN and FSPNN, they are almost similar. Therefore they have the same shortcomings as well as the same virtues on structural side. The proposed design procedure for networks' architecture involves the selection of appropriate nodes with specific local characteristics such as the number of input variables, the order of the polynomial that is constant, linear, quadratic, or modified quadratic functions being viewed as the consequent part of fuzzy rules, and a collection of the specific subset of input variables. On the parameter optimization phase, we adopt Information Granulation (IG) based on HCM clustering algorithm and a standard least square method-based learning. Through the consecutive process of such structural and parametric optimization, an optimized and flexible fuzzy neural network is generated in a dynamic fashion. To evaluate the performance of the genetically optimized FSPNN (gFSPNN), the model is experimented with using gas furnace process dataset.
This paper intends to provide an analytic vibrational model of non-circular cutting by a lathe and to investigate its stability criteria. A single degree-of-freedon model based on the orthogonal cutting theory has the characteristics of parametric excitation due to the nonlinear cutting force that changes periodically its direction as well as its magnitude. The Floquet theory has been applied to investigate the stability of the linearized system and the stability diagrams have been obtained with respect to the ovality, the cut velocity and the cut depth. Also nonlinear analysis has been performed to verify the linear analysis and compare the results with those from circular cutting. Results show that a critical cut depth is decreased as the ovality is increased while a critical cut velocity is increased as the ovality is increased. Also, a good agreement in critical conditions has been observed between the linear and nonlinear analyses for the ovality less than 2%. Accordingly, the linear analysis can be said to be applicable for most practical oval cuttings whose ovality are much less than 2%.

Although just developed in recent years, curved box girder has widely used in modern highway system due to their load resistance capacity as well as aesthetic considerations. According to recent literature reviews on curved box girder designs, distortional load was not considered as much as it deserves to be. In practice, the effect of distributional force is very small in straight bridge systems but yet unknown how it is in curved bridge systems. For the reason, this paper will show up an extensive parametric study on distortional behavior of curved box girder with trapezoidal section. Based on Dabrowski formulas, using finite element method, various bridges were investigated. In this study, following parameters will be included: span length, curvature radius, section height, section width, and internal section angle (web slope). From the obtained results, some initial geometric parameters are proposed for curved box girder bridges.

Implicit finite element analysis of the flat surface-straight edge hemming process is performed by using a commercial code ABAQUS/Standard. Methods of finite element modeling for springback simulation and contact pair definition are discussed. An optimal mesh system is chosen through the error analysis that is based on the smoothing of discontinuity in the state variables. This study has focused on the investigation of the influence of process parameters in flanging, pre-hemming and main hemming on final hem quality, which can be defined by turn-down, warp and roll-in. The parameters adopted in this parametric study are flange length, flange angle, flanging die corner radius, face angle and insertion angle of pre-hemming punch, and over-stroke of pre-hemming and main hemming punches.
A number of desirable characteristics concerning excellent durability, aesthetics, recyclability, high ductility and fire resistance have made stainless steel a preferred option in engineering practice. However, the relatively high initial cost has greatly restricted the application of stainless steel as a major structural material in general construction. This drawback can be partially overcome by introducing composite stainless steel-concrete structures, which provides a cost-efficient and sustainable solution for future stainless steel construction. This paper presents a preliminary numerical study on stainless steel-concrete composite beam-to-column joints with bolted flush endplates. In order to ensure a consistent corrosion resistance within the whole structural system, all structural steel components were designed with austenitic stainless steel, including beams, columns, endplates, bolts, reinforcing bars and shear connectors. A finite element model was developed using ABAQUS software for composite beam-to-column joints under monotonic and symmetric hogging moments, while validation was performed based on independent test results. A parametric study was subsequently conducted to investigate the effects of several critical factors on the behaviour of composite stainless steel joints. Finally, comparisons were made between the numerical results and the predictions by current design codes regarding the plastic moment capacity and the rotational stiffness of the joints. It was concluded that the present codes of practice generally overestimate the rotational stiffness and underestimate the plastic moment resistance of stainless steel-concrete composite joints.
