  • Many researches on the parametric representation of speech ,signals using the adaptive linear prediction method have been studied for the past few years. In this paper, we used the LPC(Linear Predictive Coding)method to analyae the parameters of Korean vowels and by using those parameters we studied the affinity between every pair of Korean vowels. As a result of our study, it is found that each pair of Korean vowels that has a greater phonetic affinity also has a greater affinity of vocal tract parameters than other pairs.

  • Eddy current testing (ECT) is an important nondestructive testing technology for the inspection of flaws in conductive materials. However, this widely used technology is not suitable for inspecting lamination when a conventional pancake coil is used because the eddy current (EC) generated by the pancake coil is parallel to the lamination and will not be perturbed. A new method using a rectangular coil placed vertical to the work piece is proposed for lamination detection. The vertical sections of the rectangular coil induce ECs that are vertical to the lamination and can be perturbed by the lamination. A parametric study of a rectangular coil by finite element analysis was performed in order to examine the capability of generating vertical EC.

  • The $LiBr-H_{2}O$ absorption process on a horizontal tube has been analyzed using the numerical method which incorporates the fully elliptic Navier-Stokes equations for the momentum equations, the energy and mass-diffusion equations. On a staggered grid, the SIMPLER algorithm with the QUICK scheme is used to solve these equations along with the MAC method for the free surface tracking. With the assumption that the absorbent is linear, calculations have been made for various inlet temperature and flow-rate conditions. The detailed results of the parametric study, such as the temperature, concentration, absorption mass flux and wall heat flux distributions are presented. The self-sustained feature of the absorption process is clearly elaborated. The analyses have also been carried out for multiple tube arrangement and the results show that the absorption rate converges after a few tube rows.

  • Multi-sensor data fusion techniques combine evidences from multiple sensors in order to get more accurate and efficient meaningful information through several process levels that may not be possible from a single sensor alone. One of the most important parts in the data fusion system is the identification fusion, and it can be categorized into physical models, parametric classification and cognitive-based models, and parametric classification technique is usually used in multi-sensor data fusion system by its characteristic. In this paper, we propose a novel heuristic identification fusion method in which we adopt desirable properties from not only parametric classification technique but also cognitive-based models in order to meet the realtime processing requirements.

  • In Korea highway bridges, most piers are the type of one-column or multi-column ones. So, in this study, under an environment applying BIM so fast, to activate researches on two-column piers subjected to bidirectional seismic loading, a 3D parametric modeling method was selected when the model of two-column piers and one-column piers were formed. Also, interface module between input data in structural analysis and 3D model of RC pier was developed. The module can create the input data for non-linear structural analysis like material, geometric properties and additional coefficients.

  • Recent times have seen the introduction of modeling technologies using implicit surface and marching cubes algorithm in the field of computer graphics. Implicit surface modeling is used to express characters or fluid. This study presents a calculation method for the density of curve skeletal primitives using parametric curve and implements an implicit surface modeling tool by utilizing Maya API. Skeletal primitives can be assembled and utilized in character modeling using the implemented modeling tool. Results could be obtained more effectively compared to existing particle-based methods.

  • The parametric resonance problems of axisymmetric sandwich annular plate with an electrorheological (ER) fluid core and constraining layer are investigated. The annular plate is covered an electrorheological fluid core layer and a constraining layer to improve the stability of the system. The discrete layer annular finite element and the harmonic balance method are adopted to calculate the boundary of instability regions for the sandwich annular plate system. Besides, the rheological property of an electrorheological material, such as viscosity, plasticity, and elasticity can be changed when applying an electric field. When the electric field is applied on the sandwich structure, the damping of the sandwich system is more effective. Thus, variations of the instability regions for the sandwich annular plate with different applying electric fields, thickness of ER layer, and some designed parameters are presented and discussed in this study. The ER fluid core is found to have a significant effect on the location of the boundaries of the instability regions.

  • The main objective of this study is to investigate the impact of additional modalities on the performance of emotion recognition using speech, facial expression and physiological measurements. In order to compare different approaches, we designed a feature-based recognition system as a benchmark which carries out linear supervised classification followed by the leave-one-out cross-validation. For the classification of four emotions, it turned out that bimodal fusion in our experiment improves recognition accuracy of unimodal approach, while the performance of trimodal fusion varies strongly depending on the individual. Furthermore, we experienced extremely high disparity between single class recognition rates, while we could not observe a best performing single modality in our experiment. Based on these observations, we developed a novel fusion method, called parametric decision fusion (PDF), which lies in building emotion-specific classifiers and exploits advantage of a parametrized decision process. By using the PDF scheme we achieved 16% improvement in accuracy of subject-dependent recognition and 10% for subject-independent recognition compared to the best unimodal results.

  • In the present study, we suggest a new method for designing complex ship hull forms with multiple domain B-spline surfaces accounting for their topological arrangement, where all subdomains are fully defined in terms of form parameters, e.g., positional, differential and integral descriptors. For the construction of complex hull forms, free-form elementary models such as forebody, afterbody and bulbs are united by Boolean operation and blending surfaces in compliance with the sectional area curve (SAC) of the whole ship. This new design process in this paper is called Sectional Area Curve-Balanced Parametric Design (SAC-BPD).

  • Unlike for other building processes, BIM for earthwork does not need a large variety of 3D model shapes; however, it requires a 3D model that can efficiently reflect the changing features of the ground shape and provide soil type-dependent workload calculation and information on equipment for optimal management. Objects for earthwork have not yet been defined because the current BIM system does not provide them. The BIM technology commonly applied in the manufacturing center uses real-object data obtained through 3D scanning to generate 3D parametric solid models. 3D scanning, which is used when there are no existing 3D models, has the advantage of being able to rapidly generate parametric solid models. In this study, A method to generate 3D models for earthwork operations using reverse engineering is suggested. 3D scanning is used to create a point cloud of a construction site and the point cloud data are used to generate a surface model, which was then converted into a parametric model with 3D objects for earthwork
