  • Estimation for the parameters of a bivariate exponential (BVE) model of Marshall and Olkin (1967) is investigated for the cases of complete sampling and time-truncated parallel sampling. Maximum likelihood estimators, method of moment estimators and Bayes estimators for the parameters of a BVE model are obtained and compared with each other. A Monte Cario simulation study for a moderate sized samples indicates that the Bayes estimators of parameters perform better than their maximum likelihood and method of moment estimators.

  • In this paper it was discussed and compared measured loudspeaker impedance curve with ones reconstructed by TS parameters estimated using four kinds of parameter estimation methods developed in frequency domain. Frequency dependent parameters were introduced and derived using least square error minimization technique. For known dynamic mass TS parameter estimation methods were reviewed and also proved non-uniqueness of these parameters by simulation method. Minimum phase transformation was adopted to derive phase information from magnitude of loudspeaker electrical impedance curve measured by one channel analyzer.

  • The Weibull is widely used in reliability analysis, and several studies have attempted to improve estimation of the distribution's parameters. least squares estimation (LSE) or Maximum likelihood estimation (MLE) are often used to estimate distribution parameters. However, it has been proven that Bayesian methods are more suitable for small sample sizes than LSE and MLE. In this work, the Weibull parameter estimation accuracy of LSE, MLE, and Bayesian method are compared for sample sets with 3 to 30 data points. The Bayesian method was most accurate for sample sizes under 25, and the accuracy of the Bayesian method was similar to LSE and MLE as the sample size increased.

  • In the rapidly advancing landscape of computer vision (CV) technology, there is a burgeoning interest in its integration with the construction industry. Camera calibration is the process of deriving intrinsic and extrinsic parameters that affect when the coordinates of the 3D real world are projected onto the 2D plane, where the intrinsic parameters are internal factors of the camera, and extrinsic parameters are external factors such as the position and rotation of the camera. Camera pose estimation or extrinsic calibration, which estimates extrinsic parameters, is essential information for CV application at construction since it can be used for indoor navigation of construction robots and field monitoring by restoring depth information. Traditionally, camera pose estimation methods for cameras relied on target objects such as markers or patterns. However, these methods, which are marker- or pattern-based, are often time-consuming due to the requirement of installing a target object for estimation. As a solution to this challenge, this study introduces a novel framework that facilitates camera pose estimation using standardized materials found commonly in construction sites, such as concrete forms. The proposed framework obtains 3D real-world coordinates by referring to construction materials with certain specifications, extracts the 2D coordinates of the corresponding image plane through keypoint detection, and derives the camera's coordinate through the perspective-n-point (PnP) method which derives the extrinsic parameters by matching 3D and 2D coordinate pairs. This framework presents a substantial advancement as it streamlines the extrinsic calibration process, thereby potentially enhancing the efficiency of CV technology application and data collection at construction sites. This approach holds promise for expediting and optimizing various construction-related tasks by automating and simplifying the calibration procedure.

  • This study addresses spacecraft moment of inertial estimation approach using Modified Rodrigues Parameters(MRP). The MRP offer advantage by avoiding singularity in Kalman Filter design for attitude determination caused by the norm constraint of quaternion parameters. Meanwhile, MRP may suffer singularity for large angular displacement, so that we designed appropriate reference attitude motion for accurate estimation. The proposed approach is expected to provide stable error covariance update with accurate spacecraft mass property estimation results.

  • Automatic transmission for heavy duty vehicles is a part of the power pack which includes steering and braking systems. This transmission in different from the one for passenger car. Therefore, in order to understand the trend of the important design parameters, maneuverability, acceleration performance and maximum speed, we need to analyze the total performance characteristics of the power transmission systems. In this study, modeling of the automatic transmission in heavy duty vehicle is carried out and the performance analysis method is presented. Results can be used for performance estimation data in the analysis for several combination method which determines the optimal parameters on the basis of penalty functions and weightings. And the estimation method of the important performance parameters such as engine inertia or power loss of engine by experiments is presented.

  • In this paper, a new on-line parameter estimation methodology for the general continuous time Takagi-Sugeno(T-5) fuzzy model whose parameters are poorly known or uncertain is presented. An estimator with an appropriate adaptive law for updating the parameters is designed and analyzed based on the Lyapunov theory. The adaptive law is designed so that the estimation model follows the plant parameterized model. By the proposed estimator, the parameters of the T-S fuzzy model can be estimated by observing the behavior of the system and it can be a basis for the indirect adaptive fuzzy control. Based on the derived design method, the parameter estimation for controllable canonical T-S fuzzy model is also Presented.

  • This paper deals in the study of the estimation of the parameters of Erlang distribution based on rank set sampling and some of its modifications. Here we considered Maximum Likelihood (ML) and the Bayesian technique to estimate the shape and scale parameter of Erlang distribution based on RSS and its some modifications such as ERSS, MRSS, and MRSSu. The derivation for unknown parameters of Erlang distribution is well presented using normal approximation to the asymptotic distribution of ML estimators. But due to the complexity involves in the integral, the Bayes estimator of unknown parameters is obtained using MCMC method. Further, we compared the MSE of estimation in different sampling schemes with different set sizes and cycle size. A real-life data application is also given to illustrate the efficiency of the proposed scheme.

  • This study has two objectives. One is developing the runoff model for Hoe-Dong Reservoir basin located at the upstream of Su-Young River in Pusan. To develop the runoff model, basic hydrological parameters - curve number to find effective rainfall, and storage coefficient, etc. - should be estimated. In this study, the effective rainfall was calculated by the SCS method, and the storage coefficient used in the Clark watershed routing was cited from the report of P.E.B. The other is the derivation of transfer function for Hoe-Dong Reservoir basin. The linear, discrete, input-output model which contained six parameters was selected, and the parameters were estimated by the least square method and the correlation function method, respectively. Throughout this study, rainfall and flood discharge data were based on the field observation in 1981.8.22 - 8.23 (typhoon Gladys). It was observed that the Clark watershed routing regenerated the flood hydrograph of typhoon Gladys very well, and this fact showed that the estimated hydrological parameters were relatively correct. Also, the calculated hydrograph by the linear, discrete, input-output model showed good agreement with the regenerated hydrograph at Hoe-Dong Dam site, so this model can be applicable to other small urban areas. Key Words : runoff, effective rainfall, SCS method, clark watershed iou상ng, hydrological parameters, parameter estimation, least square method, correlation function method, input-output model, typhoon gladys.
