  • A novel oxidant generation and ion precipitation cell with slits on parallel plate electrodes system has been proposed and an effect of the number and size of slits on ion precipitation and oxidant generation characteristics. As a result, with the electrodes with 48 slits($S=200{\times}60[mm^2]$. d = 1.5, 5.0 [mm]), it is found that the oxidant contained waters of 17.0 [ppmm] and 23.5 [ppmm] in acid water were obtained with 0.1 [wt%] NaCl dissolved tap water fed. And oxidant contained waters of 0.5 [ppmm] and 1.5 [ppmm] in alkali water were obtained with 0.1 [wt%] NaCl dissolved tap water fed. And the oxidant contained waters of 7.0 [ppmm] and 11.5 [ppmm] in mixed water were obtained with tap water and 0.1 [wt%] NaCl dissolved tap water fed. Consequently, very high ion precipitation and dense oxidant generation characteristics can be realized by having slits on the electrodes of conventional cells as these slits increase the electric fields and decrease the space charge limiting actions in interelectrode space.

  • Effects of microstructures on the electrical properties of ZrO2 based ceramics were analyzed by modeling layer arrangements and mixed phase structures. Single layers and alternating multilayers were made from 3mol% and 8mol% Y2O3 doped ZrO2 powders, while mixed specimen was made by blending and compacting these raw powders. After sintering at 150$0^{\circ}C$ for 2hr in air, AC impedance characteristics were measured. Contributiion of bulk comonent to total resistivity and its temperature-dependence were larger in 8Y-ZrO2 single layer than in 3Y-ZrO2 single layer. The multilayered specimen connected in serial to electrodes showed partial characteristics of both 3Y-ZrO2 and 8Y-ZrO2 single layers. The multilayered specimen connected in parallel to electrodes and the mixed specimen exhibited characteristics mainly of 8Y-ZrO2 single layer. The multilayered specimen connected in parallel to electrodes revealed the highest electrical conductivity near the operating temperature of solid oxide fuel cell. However, it is expected that the mixed specimen is appropriate for the applications because of its relatively high electrical conductivity with high strength expected.

  • We present an one-axis parallel-plate type of bulk micromachined torsional micromirror array with single crystalline silicon (SCS) fabricated on the glass substrate. Structurally, bottom electrodes (amophous silicon) in this mirror are DRIEed along the aluminum mirror patterns on SCS, which are self-aligned with mirror plates. Tracing the history of the micromirror study, we found that few papers have been published on research for uniform driving voltages based upon the tilting direction. If there is a slight misalignment during anodic bonding between top (mirror plate) and bottom electrodes, the non-uniformity of driving voltage will be led depending on two different tilting direction. This paper discusses how much the pull-in voltages can be different due to misalignment between two electrodes. Moreover, We achieve uniform pull-in voltage regardless of misalignments in photolithography and anodic-bonding between two individual layers.

  • To analyze the gas discharge phenomena in parallel-plane electrodes, the fully coupled finite element method (FEM) considering secondary electron emission effects in discharge column was adopted in this paper. Two coupled equations of the hydrodynamic diffusion-drift equations for three carriers and the Poisson's equation for electric scalar potential should be solved as a system equation. The proposed method including two secondary electron processes of the photoemission and background ionization has been successfully applied to evaluating the breakdown voltage in parallel-plane electrodes and is verified by comparing its numerical results with the experimental ones. From the obtained results, it is inferred that the proposed numerical scheme will be useful for predicting and understanding streamer transient phenomena.

  • We propose a negative liquid crystal (n-LC) cell with parallel patterned electrodes for high transmittance and fast response. The proposed cell has higher transmittance and shorter response time than a conventional fringe-field switching cell using n-LCs, because the proposed cell does not have transmittance dips and does have a thinner LC layer.

  • A micromechanical switch that can be used as a logic gate is described in this paper. This switch consists of fixed input electrodes an output electrode Vcc/GND electrodes and movable plates suspended by crab-leg flexures. for mechanical switching of an electrical signal a parallel plate actuator which comes in contact with output electrode was used. Provided that movable plates are connected to Vcc and a low input voltage(ground signal) is applied to the fixed input electrodes the movable plates are pulled by an electrostatic force between the fixed input electrodes and the movable plates. the proposed micromechanical switch was fabricated by surface micromachining technology with$2\mum$ -thick poly-Si and the measured threshold voltage for ON/OFF switching was 23.5V.

  • In this paper, a plastic film type submersion sensor capable of measuring submersion speed was developed. This submersion sensor is designed as a capacitive type, and it is a sensor that outputs the change in capacitance between the electrode of the submersion sensor and the grounded body as a voltage through a C-V(capacitance-voltage) converter. We developed an submersion sensor in which two electrodes of different lengths are connected in parallel to measure the submersion speed accurately by minimizing the influence of noise such as contamination. When both electrodes of the submersion sensor are exposed to water, the rate of change of water level suddenly increases, so the submersion speed is measured by measuring the time to this point. Since the difference in length between the two electrodes of the submersion sensor does not change in any case, it is possible to accurately measure the submersion speed.

  • Evaluated are errors of the conformal mapping method in the analysis of a coplanar waveguides and asmmetric coplanar strips. The errors are mainly due to the negligence of fringe field effect after electrode structures are transformed to parallel electrodes. For the purpose of comparison, results of the conformal mapping(CM) method are compared with those of the successive over relaxation(SOR) method.

  • Electrostatic actuation was adopted for ease of fabrication. We proposed a new driving scheme that uses the vector sum of force generated by comb-finger and by parallel plate. The moving and fixed electrodes are arranged to maximize the driving force. In this paper, an electrostatic field analysis is performed by Maxwell analysis tool for micro actuators. From the analysis, a comb-parallel type micro-actuator with 4${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ width, 6${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ overlap and 45${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ height could be designed. In order to compare the new type of actuator with the conventional comb type of actuator, we arranged that both types have the same area and the same number of actuators. To make a high aspect ratio structure, we are developing fabrication process using SU-8 and electro-plating.

  • This paper proposes a dry-type surface myoelectric sensor for the myoelectric hand prosthesis. The designed surface myoelectric sensor is composed of skin interface and processing circuits. The skin interface has one reference and two input electrodes, and the reference electrode is located in the center of two input electrodes. In this paper is proposed two types of sensors with the circle- and bar-shaped reference electrode, but all input electrodes are the bar-shaped. The metal material of the electrodes is the stainless steel (SUS440) that endures sweat and wet conditions. Considering the conduction velocity and the median frequency of the myoelectric signal, the inter-electrode distance (IED) between two input electrodes as 18mm, 20mm, and 22mm is selected. The signal processing circuit consists of a differential amplifier with a band pass filter, a band rejection filter for rejecting 60Hz power-line noise, amplifiers, and a mean absolute value(MAV) circuit. Using SUS440, six prototype skin interface with different reference electrode shape and IED is fabricated, and their output characteristics are evaluated by output signal obtained from the forearm of a healthy subject. The experimental results show that the skin interface with parallel bar shape and the 18mm IED has a good output characteristics. The fabricated dry-type surface myoelectric sensor is evaluated for the upper-limb amputee.
