  • Vegetation classes, especially grass and tree classes, are often confused in classification when conventional spectral pattern recognition techniques are used to classify urban areas. This paper reports on a study to improve the classification results by using an automated process of considering height information in separating urban vegetation classes, specifically tree and grass, using three-band, high-spatial resolution, digital aerial imagery. Height information was derived photogrammetrically from stereo pair imagery using cross correlation image matching to estimate differential parallax for vegetation pixels. A threshold value of differential parallax was used to assess whether the original class was correct. The average increase in overall accuracy for three test stereo pairs was $7.8\%$, and detailed examination showed that pixels reclassified as grass improved the overall accuracy more than pixels reclassified as tree. Visual examination and statistical accuracy assessment of four test areas showed improvement in vegetation classification with the increase in accuracy ranging from $3.7\%\;to\;18.1\%$. Vegetation classification can, in fact, be improved by adding height information to the classification procedure.

  • In this paper, a new integral imaging method with horizontal parallax only is proposed by modified use of elemental images pickuped from conventional integral imaging. The modified elemental images are obtained by magnifying single horizontal elemental image vertically and from which 3D images could be reconstructed. The proposed method can provide us large reduction of transmission information data for elemental images by eliminating the vertical parallax. The feasibility of our approach is experimentally demonstrated and its results are presented.

  • The transmittance of the three dimensional (3D) transparent display is an important factor and can be enhanced by adding a see-through area to the displayed 3D image in order to transmit an ambient light with maximum transparency. However, there is a side effect that the perceived 3D resolution can be degraded due to the see-through area. In this paper, we propose an advanced method to resolve the above trade-off relation between the transparency and the 3D resolution by using an active parallax barrier (PB) with a see-through area. The experimental results are also presented to prove the proposed principle.

  • For stereo matching based on deep learning, the design of network structure is crucial to the calculation of matching cost, and the time-consuming problem of convolutional neural network in image processing also needs to be solved urgently. In this paper, a method of stereo matching using sparse loss volume in parallax dimension is proposed. A sparse 3D loss volume is constructed by using a wide step length translation of the right view feature map, which reduces the video memory and computing resources required by the 3D convolution module by several times. In order to improve the accuracy of the algorithm, the nonlinear up-sampling of the matching loss in the parallax dimension is carried out by using the method of multi-category output, and the training model is combined with two kinds of loss functions. Compared with the benchmark algorithm, the proposed algorithm not only improves the accuracy but also shortens the running time by about 30%.

  • This paper propose how to track the position of the observer to control the viewing zone using an adaptive parallax barrier. The pose is estimated using a Constrained Local Model based on the shape model and Landmark for robust eye-distance measurement in the face pose. Camera's correlation converts distance and horizontal location to centimeter. The pixel pitch of the adaptive parallax barrier is adjusted according to the position of the observer's eyes, and the barrier is moved to adjust the viewing area. This paper propose a method for tracking the observer in the range of 60cm to 490cm, and measure the error, measurable range, and fps according to the resolution of the camera image. As a result, the observer can be measured within the absolute error range of 3.1642cm on average, and it was able to measure about 278cm at 320×240, about 488cm at 640×480, and about 493cm at 1280×960 depending on the resolution of the image.

  • We have studied elemental image compatibility between integral imaging(II) and parallax generation(PG) system for three-dimensional display. The elemental images of PG can be obtained by recombination of the elemental images picked up in II system. The theoretical verification and the experimental results show that the elemental images of PG are in correspondence with the elemental images of II system with proper transformation conditions.

  • When two bands have different look angle in a space-borne camera system, the registration between two bands is required. The registration cannot be modeled with constant parameters because of dynamic of platform and parallax effect. The parallax effect is caused by terrain relief, hence it causes local distortion between two bands. Therefore, the terrain relief correction in order to reduce the parallax effect is required for better registration result, especially for high resolution image data. Such terrain relief correction also can be applied to image data acquired from multiple detectors with different look angle within a band, which is a one of commonly used configuration for a wider swath in space-borne camera system, in order to reduce the distortion between detectors. The RFM is a popular abstract model in remote sensing field, which gives us the relationship between the image plane and geodetic coordinate system. Therefore, we propose a terrain relief correction method based on the RFM. The experiment showed very promising result.

  • In this paper, we propose a 2D-3D convertible display system having a background of full-parallax integral images. The proposed system is composed of integral imaging system and conventional 2D flat display and is able to operate either 3D mode or 2D mode. In 3D mode, the 3D image is generated by combining the 2D main image with the background image based on integral imaging. In 2D mode, the integral imaging system plays a role as the back-light of 2D flat display and then 2D image is observed through 2D flat display. To show the usefulness of the proposed system, we carry out the preliminary experiments and present the successful experimental results.

  • An advantage of parallax barrier displays is that they can also display 2D and 3D contents and can be automatically switched between the two types. But, as the viewer changes position, different views of the scene will be directed by the barrier to the visual system. Moving horizontally beyond a certain point will produce "image flipping" of the different views of the scene. These limitations make unavoidable the use of another autostereoscopic display solutions like eye tracking or increasing the number of views. In this paper, a method of the moving parallax barrier design is introduced to supplement a disadvantage of the fixed parallax barrier that provides observation at specific locations. For making the moving parallax barrier, the cross connector with 640 lines FPC is designed. A commercially available web camera is utilized to implement eye-tracking system and shows the experimental result.
