  • In this article, a mathematical model is developed to predict the dynamic behavior of bio-inspired composite beam with helicoidal orientation scheme under variable axial load using a unified higher order shear deformation beam theory. The geometrical kinematic relations of displacements are portrayed with higher parabolic shear deformation beam theory. Constitutive equation of composite beam is proposed based on plane stress problem. The variable axial load is distributed through the axial direction by constant, linear, and parabolic functions. The equations of motion and associated boundary conditions are derived in detail by Hamilton's principle. Using the differential quadrature method (DQM), the governing equations, which are integro-differential equations are discretized in spatial direction, then they are transformed into linear eigenvalue problems. The proposed model is verified with previous works available in literatures. Parametric analyses are developed to present the influence of axial load type, orthotropic ratio, slenderness ratio, lamination scheme, and boundary conditions on the natural frequencies of composite beam structures. The present enhanced model can be used especially in designing spacecrafts, naval, automotive, helicopter, the wind turbine, musical instruments, and civil structures subjected to the variable axial loads.

  • A hopf bifurcation of a free boundary (or an internal layer) occurs in solidification, chemical reactions and combustion. It is a well-known fact that a free boundary usually appear as sharp transitions with narrow width between two materials ([2]).

  • Based on Landau-type transformation, a Stefan problem with non-linear free boundary condition is transformed into a system consisting of parabolic equation and the ordinary differential equations. Semidiscrete approximations are constructed. Optimal orders of convergence of semidiscrete approximation in $L_2$, $H^1$ and $H^2$ normed spaces are derived.

  • The acoustic parabolic equation method in the ocean is an efficient technique to calculate the acoustic field in the range-dependent environment, emanating from a point source. However, we often need to use the directional source with a main beam in the practical problem. In this paper, we present two methods to implement the directional source in the acoustic parabolic equation code easily. One is simply to filter the Delta function idealized as an omni-directional point source. Another method is based on the rational filtering of the self-starter solution. It has a limitation not to separate the up-going and the down-going wave for the depth, but would be useful in implementing the mode propagation. Numerical examples for validation are given in the Pekeris environment and the deep sea environment.

  • This paper proposes a coordinate correction technique using the transformation of 3D parabolic coordinate function and BP(Back Propagation) neural network in order to solve space distortion problem caused by using catadioptric camera. Although Catadioptric camera can obtain omni-directional image at all directions of 360 degrees, it makes an image distorted because of an external form of lens itself. Accordingly, To obtain transformed ideal distance coordinate information from distorted image on 3 dimensional space, we use coordinate transformation function that uses coordinates of a focus at mirror in the shape of parabolic plane and another one which projected into the shape of parabolic from input image. An error of this course is modified by BP neural network algorithm.
