We have been developing the pantograph for Korean High Speed Train for the last five years. To fulfil the following requirements at designed speed of 350km/h : 1) contact loss less than 1 %, 2) aerodynamic noise less than 91dB, 3) average uplift force less than 200N, the pantograph has been modified two times since the first prototype pantograph was manufactured, By means of the following up characteristic test, low speed wind tunnel test, and high speed wind tunnel test for the prototype pantographs, we found that the aerodynamic uplift force did not exceed l60N at speed up to 350km/h and the aerodynamic noise was less than 88dB, that the following up characteristics of the prototype pantograph was excellent.
According to the current trend of single arm type pantograph for high speed trail korean pantograph designed to single arm type will be installed on each power car roof of prototype train of korean very high speed rail configured to 7 cars and have the characteristics of maximum 1% contact loss at 350 km/h speed. This study is devoted to design basically element components of pantograph for korean very high speed train on the basis of kinematic analysis, static analysis and dynamic analysis, followed by making the basic drawings of korean pantograph. This drawings will be complemented through certification tests of prototype pantograph and verification of analysis software.
Electric train is currently used widely, and much development is expected. But, in case of electric train, as comparison with diesel rolling stock, many electrical problem such as harmonic, voltage sag, EMI, EMC usually occur. Accordingly, in order to popularize an electric train, first, a study on electrical problem at an electric train must be accomplished. In this paper, one of electrical problems, arc characteristics according to loss of contact between pantograph and catenary was analyzed.
Described in this paper are the dynamic model and the dynamic performance of catenary-pantograph system for TGV-K(maximum operating speed of 300km/hr). Dynamic simulations showed that the system satisfies the performance criteria such as contact loss ratio, contact force and lift-off of the contact wire. It is also shown by the simulations that the dynamic behavior and contact performance of the system at the operating speed of 350km/hr are found unacceptable. Design parameters of the catenary-pantograph system should be optimized for the speed-up of the TGV-K.
Recently, higher speeds have been promoted in old overhead-lines. For high-speed operation in electric railways, increasing contact loss of the pantograph is one of the most important subjects. The contact loss causes power interruption and increases wear of contact strips and contact wires. In order to investigate the causes of contact loss and to work out effective improvement methods, theoretical analyses, experiments have been carried out. First of all, the wave propagating velocity (phase velocity) and characteristics of contact wire are one of the important indices for the current collecting performance. In this paper, mathematical formula arc derived for the prediction of the traveling wave velocity. The measured values in the experiment agree well with the theoretical predictions.
Along with the increase of railway catenary system operation speed to 400 km/h, there have been growing demands for good quality current collection systems that satisfy quality standards as well as criteria for safe working. Retaining uniform elasticity tension of contact wires is essential in maintaining high quality contact between pantograph and OCL (Overhead Contact Line) of current collection systems in high speed railways. Therefore, the tension of contact wire must be kept within tight tolerance limits in both working conditions and adverse weather conditions of catenary system. In accordance with these conditions, this paper presents a real time monitoring system for the tensioning device of the newly installed catenary system on the special route of Honam high speed line for 400 km/h operation. For the verification of the true value of tension of contact wires, we have developed ring-type tensioning sensors which were installed on supporting points of mast which compose the catenary system. According to the field test performed on the Honam high speed line catenary system, variation of tension was measured accurately in real-time.
The decisive criteria to determine collection performance is the contact force between pantograph and catenary. The contact force consists of a static force and dynamic force related to vibration characteristics, train speed and etc. The low contact force leads to the loss of contact, and most countries regulate it below 1% at operation speed. This study presents a technical overview of criteria for collection performance of catenary system.
The decisive criteria to determine collection performance is the contact force between pantograph and catenary. The contact force consists of a static force and dynamic force related to vibration characteristics, train speed and etc. The low contact force leads to the loss of contact, and most countries regulate it below $3\∼5\%$ at operation speed. This study presents a technical overview of criteria for collection performance and modelling and simulation methods to analyze dynamic characteristics of catenary.
Subject of the paper is a particular configuration of overhead line, in which noise barrier structure is used as supports of the catenary instead of standard poles. This configuration is foreseen in case the noise barrier position is in conflict with the poles location. If the catenary is supported by the noise barrier, the motion that the latter undergo due to wave pressure associated to train transit is transmitted to the overhead line, so that potentially it influences the interaction between the catenary itself and the pantograph of the passing train. The paper focuses on the influence of such peculiar configuration on the quality of the current collection of high speed pantograph, for single and double current collection. The study has been carried out first with an experimental investigation on the pressure distribution on noise barrier, both in wind tunnel and with in-field tests. Subsequently a numerical analysis of the dynamics of the barrier subjected to the wave pressure due to train transit has been carried out, and the output of such analysis has been used as input data for the simulation of the pantograph-dynamic interaction at different speeds and with front or rear pantograph in operation. Consideration of structural modifications was then highlighted, in order to reduce the influence on the contact loss percentage.
