Effect of Learner-Centered Virtual Reality Simulation Education (학습자 중심의 가상현실 시뮬레이션 교육 효과)

  • The purpose of this study is to identify the effect of virtual reality simulation education and intend to present basic data that enables virtual reality simulation education to be used as practical education. Data were collected from April 26 to June 4, 2021 and analyzed by paired t-test, Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test, Spearman's correlation coefficient using IBM SPSS Statistics 25 program. The results of this study showed that critical thinking disposition, clinical competency, practice satisfaction was improved after virtual reality simulation education. And there were a positive correlation with each other. Virtual reality simulation education is considered a very effective teaching method for nursing students. It is necessary to develop and apply more diverse and systematic scenarios and practice programs in future research.

The Effects of Aromatherapy on Pain, Depression, and Life Satisfaction of Arthritis Patients (관절염환자의 동통, 우울 및 삶의 만족도에 대한 아로마 요법)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of aromatherapy on pain, depression, and feelings of satisfaction in life of arthritis patients. Method: This study used a quasi-experimental design with a non-equivalent control group, pre-and post-test. The sample consisted of 40 patients, enrolled in the Rheumatics Center, Kangnam St. Mary's Hospital, South Korea. The essential oils used were lavender, marjoram, eucalyptus, rosemary, and peppermint blended in proportions of 2:1:2:1:1. They were mixed with a carrier oil composed of almond (45%), apricot(45%), and jojoba oil(10%) and they were diluted to 1.5% after blending. The data were analyzed using an 2-test, Fisher's exact test, t-test and paired t-test. Result: Aromatherapy significantly decreased both the pain score and the depression score of the experimental group compared with the control group. However, aromatherapy didn't increase the feeling of satisfaction in life of the experimental group compared with the control group. Conclusion: The result of this study clearly shows that aromatherapy has major effects on decreasing pain and depression levels. Based on our experiment's findings, we suggest that aromatherapy can be a useful nursing intervention for arthritis patients.

Effect of Caregiver's Role Improvement Program on the Uncertainty, Stress, and Role Performance of Caregivers with Hospitalized Children (보호자역할증진 프로그램이 입원아동 보호자의 불확실성, 스트레스 및 돌보기 수행에 미치는 효과)

  • Purpose: In this study a caregiver's role improvement program was developed and tested to identify the effect on uncertainty, stress, and role performance of caregivers with hospitalized children. Methods: The design of this study was a quasi-experimental study with a nonequivalent control group and a non-synchronized design. Thirty-three caregivers were assigned to the experimental group and 33 to the control group. Data were collected from March 5 2016 to April 10 2016. For the experimental treatment, each individual was given on-site education with situated learning (given 30 minutes each, for 2 sessions), and self-repetition learning activities were performed from the e-book. Data were analyzed using t-test, ${\chi}^2-test$, Fisher's exact test, paired t-test, and independent t-test. Results: The level of uncertainty and stress decreased, and role performance level improved for these caregivers with hospitalized children. Conclusion: The findings of this study show that using on-site education through situated learning and self-repetition learning with an e-book as in the caregiver's role improvement program is an effective intervention. Therefore, utilizing the caregiver role improvement program developed in this study is recommended as an effective intervention for caregivers of hospitalized children.

Retention of CPR knowledge in the police (경찰공무원을 대상으로 한 심폐소생술 교육효과 지속에 관한 연구)

  • Retention of CPR knowledge was assessed in a group of 86 police officers who participated in first aid and emergency rescue program on February, 2001 and 3 months later. Police officers were taken written test about CPR knowledge by American Heart Association Guidelines 2000 and competence level. Data were analyzed by Frequency, Percentage, Mean, paired t-test using SPSS program. The results for this study were as follows ; 1. In the post-test, the highest question was a rechecking time of circulation sign(98.8%), the lowest was a check for signs of circulation(17.4%), in 3months later, the highest question was a chest compression(94.2%), the lowest was a check for signs of circulation(1.2%), and a retention of CPR knowledge was a 71.7%. In 3months later, knowledge level was decreased compared to that of post-test(t=-9.09, p=.000). 2. In 3months later, the competence level was decreased compared to that of post-test(t=3.09, p=.003).

Effects of an Empowerment Program on Nicotine Dependency, Temptation, Self-esteem, Depression in Adolescents Who Smoke (역량강화프로그램이 흡연청소년의 니코틴의존도, 흡연유혹 및 자아존중감, 우울에 미치는 효과)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the effects of an empowerment program on nicotine dependency, temptation, self-esteem, and depression for adolescents who smoke. Methods: The study design was a quasi-experimental study with a nonequivalent control group, pre-post design. The participants were 49 adolescents who smoked. Twenty-six adolescents were assigned to the experimental group and 23 to the control group. The intervention was conducted twice a week for 6 weeks. Chi-square test, t-test, paired-test, Wilcoxon rank sum test and Wilcoxon signed rank test were used to analyze the data. Results: After program, scores for self-esteem (t=5.560, p=.014), were significantly higher and scores for depression (t=-2.111, p=.040) were significantly lower for adolescents in the experimental group compared to adolescents in the control group. Conclusion: The finding indicate that the empowerment group training program was effective in improving self-esteem, and decreasing depression and could be considered as a positive program for smoking cessation for adolescents who smoke.

Effect of Death Education Program on Self-Esteem, Spiritual Well-Being, and Pain of Adults (죽음교육 프로그램이 성인의 자아존중감, 영적안녕, 통증에 미치는 효과)

  • This study was conducted to investigate the effects of a death education program on self-esteem, spiritual well-being, and pain in adults. This investigations employed a nonequivalent control group non-synchronized design, and was performed in C hospital located in Chungju, Chungcheongbukdo province, Korea from January 4-13, 2016. The study included 48 participants who agreed to enrolled. Participants were randomly divided into an experimental and a control group of 22 and 26 applicants each. Participants (n=22) in the experimental group participated in the death education program for 2 hours, three times a week for 2 weeks. The effects of treatment were measured using a structured questionnaire to evaluate self-esteem, spiritual well-being, and pain before and after 2 weeks of intervention. Data were analyzed using a t-test, chi-squared test, Fisher's Exact-test and a paired t-test. The experimental group showed significantly increased self-esteem (P<0.002) and spiritual well-being (P<0.015), and significantly reduced pain (P<0.014) compared to the control group after 2 weeks of intervention. Overall, the death education program was shown to be an effective nursing intervention for adults; therefore, of its use in various fields should be considered.

Effect of Strength Coaching Program for First Clinical Experience of Nursing Students (강점코칭 프로그램이 간호대학생의 첫 임상실습에 미치는 효과)

  • Purpose: This study was conducted to examine the effects of a strength coaching program on nursing students' clinical competence, self esteem, and practice satisfaction. The study was designed using a nonequivalent control group pretest-post test design, and data were collected between January 7 and February 1, 2019. The participants consisted of 41, 3-year nursing students in G City who were assigned to an experimental group (n=21) or a control group (n=20). The data were analyzed using descriptive analysis, a t-test, χ2 test, and paired t-test with the SPSS/WIN 21.0 program. After receiving the strength coaching program, a difference was observed in self esteem(t=5.53, p<0.038), and practice satisfaction (t=7.66, p<0.019) of the experimental group. The results of this study indicate that the strength coaching program was effective at increasing self esteem and practice satisfaction in nursing students.

The Effects of Health Exercise Program on Walking ability, Depression and WHOQOL-BREF in the Fall experienced Women Elderly (건강체조 프로그램이 낙상경험 여성노인의 보행능력, 우울 및 삶의 질에 미치는 효과)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of health exercise program to old Women's walking ability, depression and WHOQOL-BREF. Data were collected from April to June, 2007 from the falls experienced 70 women elderly. All subjects participated in 12 week health exercise program which was designed in order to develop walking ability. The data were analyzed using frequency, %, paired t-test. The results of this study were as followings; First, there was significant differences in the average time of chair stand (t=2.291, p=.025), one leg standing(Rt. leg)(t=2.236, p=.029), step length between before and after(t=4.015, p=.000) training of 12 week health exercise program. Second, there was non significant differences in depression(t=1.044, p=.300) but, significant differences in WHOQOL-BREF(t=3.528, p=.001). The WHOQOL-BREF in general quality of life(t=2.923, p=.005), physical(t=3.039, p=.003), psychological(t=2.481, p=.016), social(t=2.531, p=.014) and environment domain(t=4.259, p=.000) were significant differences. The results suggest that the 12 week health exercise program can improve the muscle endurance and balance, QOL.

The effects of Career Education Program on Career Self-efficacy, Career Adaptability and Career Stress for Nursing Students (진로교육 프로그램이 간호대학생의 진로자기효능감, 진로적응성 및 진로스트레스에 미치는 효과)

  • Purpose: This study was to investigate the effects of career education program on career self-efficacy, career adaptability and career stress among nursing student. Methods: A one-group, pre-post design was utilized with 95 nursing students as subjects. The career education program was consisted of four domains((1) Career exploration, (2) Self understanding, (3) Establishment of career planning (4) Practice of career planning) and included counselling, special lectures, simulated job interview, and feedback of interview. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, paired t-tests, ANCOVA(SPSS 20.0). Results: The scores on the factors of career self-efficacy(t=4.48, p<.011) and career adaptability(t=3.02, p=.003) increased significantly after the education intervention. The score of career stress(t=-2.45, p=.015) decreased significantly. Career education program is useful in improving career self-efficacy, career adaptability and career stress in nursing students. Conclusions: The results of study suggest that there needs more development and application of career education program.

Effect of Health and Medical Law Education on Ethical Values, Social Responsibility and Political Efficacy in Senior Year Nursing Student (보건의약관계법규 교육이 간호대학 4학년 학생의 윤리적 가치관, 사회적 책무성 및 정치효능감에 미치는 효과)

  • This study attempted to confirm the effects of a course on health and medical laws and regulations on ethical values, social responsibility, and political efficacy before and after the class. The participants were 59 fourth-year nursing students from a single university, and data were collected through a pre-post experimental design from September to December 2022. Data analysis was conducted using SPSS 27.0, including frequency analysis, means and standard deviations, and paired t-tests. The results of the study showed significant differences in students' ethical values(t=-6.728, p<.001), social responsibility(t=-5.842, p<.001), and political efficacy(t=-6.378, p<.001) after the course on health and medical laws and regulations. It appears that the development of programs and teaching methods that actively engage students in the health and medical laws and regulations course is necessary.
