  • The chemical mechanical polishing(CMP) is necessarily applied to manufacturing the dielectric layer and metal line in the semiconductor device. The conditioning of polishing pad in CMP process additionally operates for maintaining the removal rate, within wafer non-uniformity, and wafer to wafer non-uniformity. But the fixed abrasive pad(FAP) using the hydrophilic polymer with abrasive that has the swelling characteristic by water owns the self-conditioning advantage as compared with the general CMP. FAP also takes advantage of planarity, resulting from decreasing pattern selectivity and defects such as dishing due to the reduction of abrasive concentration. This paper introduces the manufacturing technique of FAP. And the tungsten CMP using FAP achieved the good conclusion in point of the removal rate, non-uniformity, surface roughness, material selectivity, micro-scratch free contemporary with the pad life-time.

Prediction of Life Time of Rail Rubber Pad using Reliability Analysis Method

  • Railpad prevents damage of the tie and ballast by reducing the impact and high frequency vibration, which occurs when a vehicle load transfers to a tie. But elasticity of the railpad can decrease under vehicle load and over usable period. If that happens, railpad will become stiffer. Increase in stiffness of the railpad also translates into a rise in track maintenance cost because it accelerates the damage of the track. In this study, accelerated heat ageing test was performed to predict an expectable lifetime of the railpad. As a result, it was predicted to be about sixteen years at $25^{\circ}C$ that life time of railpad using NR rubber from Arrhenius relationship. Also, it was predicted to be about thirty-two days at $100^{\circ}C$. At this time, a standard rate of thickness change is approximately within 12%.

디스크 브레이크 패드 수명 예측에 관한 연구 (A Study on Wear Life Prediction of Disk Brake Pads)

  • This paper presents a numerical technique to analyze wear life of automotive disk brake pad, where FFT-FEM method is adopted to determine the transient temperature distribution of the disk surface. A specimen ova frictional material is tested on a small scale brake dynamometer to find the dependency of the wear rate on temperature change, from which and the temperature analysis results, given the wear test mode, wear behavior of the pad material fur the vehicle can be predicted. Numerical examples show the predicted wear life of the vehicle coincides with the manufacture's recommended time interval for replacing the pads.

  • Recent growth in global economic situation has led dramatic increase in new buildings of large containerships. These increased new building orders have brought keen concerns of developing and improving the quality of design and increasing the productivity of the vessel in order to satisfy the ship Owner's various requirements. For the increment of productivity and quality of containership, the plastic type bearing pad of cargo hatch cover has been investigated intensively for years with the supplier of cargo hatch cover. The result of investigation showed that there are numbers of advantages for the Owner and Builder over the existing bronze bearing pads which are better corrosion resistance long life time, low friction coefficient, easy maintenance, easy installation, better production lead time and low maintenance cost.

운행선에서 레일패드의 탄성변화율과 내구년수 예측 (Estimation of the Rail pad Stiffness Characteristic and the Sustainable period in Service)

  • Any track system needs major changes of its components during its life. The most economical solution is, if possible, to make all components reach their life limit during the major track rehabilitation operation. Usually, the rail does a role as the driving component for the objective: its life-time is equivalent to around 500 million tons of traffic on high speed lines. On the KTX line with 110 trains per day, this would correspond to around 16 years, which is probably too long for the elastic pads of a concrete slab track. The most economical solution should be to change them at an intermediate step of 8 years, without changing the rail, and then to change both the rail and elastic pad at 16 years intervals (some rail changes on the South East TGV line in France began 15 years after service opening at 260 km/h, but recent rails have better characteristics).

Development and Evaluation of Smart Secondary Controls Using iPad for People with Hemiplegic Disabilities

  • Objective: The purpose of this study was to develop and evaluate smart secondary controls using iPad for the drivers with physical disabilities in the driving simulator. Background: The physically disabled drivers face problems in the operation of secondary control devices that accept a control input from a driver for the purpose of operating the subsystems of a motor vehicle. Many of conventional secondary controls consist of small knobs or switches that physically disabled drivers have difficulties in grasping, pulling or twisting. Therefore, their use while driving might increase distraction and workload because of longer operation time. Method: We examined the operation time of conventional and smart secondary controls, such as hazard warning, turn signal, window, windshield wiper, headlights, automatic transmission and horn. The hardware of smart secondary control system was composed of iPad, wireless router, digital input/output module and relay switch. We used the STISim Drive3 software for driving test, customized Labview and Xcode programs for interface control of smart secondary system. Nine subjects were involved in the study for measuring operation time of secondary controls. Results: When the driver was in the stationary condition, the average operation time of smart secondary devices decreased 32.5% in the normal subjects (p <0.01), 47.4% in the subjects with left hemiplegic disabilities (p <0.01) and 38.8% in the subjects with right hemiplegic disabilities (p <0.01) compared with conventional secondary devices. When the driver was driving for the test in the simulator, the average operation time of smart secondary devices decreased 36.1% in the normal subjects (p <0.01), 41.7% in the subjects with left hemiplegic disabilities (p <0.01) and 34.1% in the subjects with right hemiplegic disabilities (p <0.01) compared with conventional secondary devices. Conclusion: The smart secondary devices using iPad for people with hemiplegic disabilities showed significant reduction of operation time compared with conventional secondary controls. Application: This study can be used to design secondary controls for adaptive vehicles and to improve the quality of life of the people with disabilities.

Fatigue Crack Growth Behavior of NR and HNBR Based Vulcanizates with Potential Application to Track Pad for Heavy Weight Vehicles

  • Generally, field performance of elastomeric track pad components has been poor, especially for the medium to heavy tonnage tracked vehicles, which are operated on the hilly cross-country course. The service life of these track pad, is affected not only by the terrain and environmental conditions but also by the speed, cornering, braking, weight of the vehicle, and the track tread design. In this research, modulus, tearing energy, and the rate of crack propagation of vulcanizates are evaluated by changing base materials to improve the service time of track pad. By increasing the contents of carbon black, modulus, tearing energy, and fatigue crack growth resistance of vulcanizates improved. Compared with the NR vulcanizate, the HNBR vulcanizate had a higher value of tearing energy. The rate of crack propagation of vulcanizates using smaller size carbon black was slower than that using larger size carbon black. When the HNBR was blended with the ZSC, the tearing energy of the vulcanizates was a little reduced because of the high modulus but the crack propagation rate was reduced significantly. In the relation between the crack propagation rate and the strain energy release rate, though up to 100% strain were applied to specimens, the slope on the log scale ($\beta$) varied between 1.72 and 2.3 with the kind of elastomer.

에너지 효율적인 데이타 기반 센서 네트워크 라우팅 프로토콜 (Energy Efficient Data-centric based Sensor Network Routing Protocol)

  • 센서 네트워크에서는 베이스 노드와 다수의 센서 노드들간의 데이타 중심 (Data-centric) 기반의 통신 모델을 사용한다는 특징을 활용하여, 오버헤드를 최소화 하면서 최저 전력 라우팅 경로를 찾고, 또한 전체 네트워크의 수명을 최대화 시킬 수 있는 PAD (Power Aware Data-centric routing protocol)를 제안한다. PAD는 최저전력 라우팅 경로와는 상관없는 통신 링크를 제거한 최저전력특징그래프(Minimum Energy Property Graph)를 찾은 후, 오버혜드를 최소화 하고 slow convergence와 라우팅 경로의 루프 문제를 해결한 Distributed Data-centric Bellman-Ford Algorithm을 사용하여 라우팅 경로를 결정한다. 특히 PAD가 제안한 최저전력특징그래프를 찾는 알고리듬은 기존의 방식에 비해서 훨씬 빠르며, 간단하여 구현이 용이하면서도 가장 적은 수의 에지를 가지는 그래프를 구한다. 이는 기존의 방식이 사용하던 path-loss 모델만을 이용한 기하학적 계산과 복잡한 알고리듬을 path-loss 모델로부터 독립시켜 전력소모를 예측할 수 있는 어떠한 방법이든지 사용 가능하게 하고 또한 최단거리 알고리듬을 사용한 결과이다. PAD는 모든 과정을 분산된 방식으로 수행하며, 또한 최소의 오버헤드만을 가지므로, 다양한 센서 네트워크 응용에서 사용할 수 있을 것으로 기대한다.

  • The fixed abrasive pad(FAP) has been introduced in chemical mechanical polishing(CMP) field recently. In comparison with the general CMP which uses the slurry including abrasives, FAP takes advantage of planarity. resulting from decreasing pattern selectivity and defects such as dishing due to the reduction of abrasive concentration especially. This paper introduces the manufacturing technique of $Al_2$O$_3$-FAP using hydrophilic polymers with swelling characteristic in water and explains the self.texturing phenomenon. It also focuses on the chemical effects on tungsten film and the FAP is evaluated on the removal rate as a function of chemicals such as oxidizer, catalyst, and acid. The removal rate is achieved up to 1000A1min as about 70 percents of the general one. In the future. the research has a plan of the advanced FAP and chemicals in tungsten CMP considering micro-scratch, life-time, and within wafer non-uniformity.

  • Rail-pad is an important and readily replaceable component of a railway track, as it is the elastic layer between the rail and the sleeper. Characteristics and useful lifetime prediction of rail-pad was very important in design procedure to assure the safety and reliability. In order to investigate the useful lifetime, the accelerate test were carried out. Accelerated test results changes as the threshold are used for assessment of the useful life and time to threshold value were plotted against reciprocal of absolute temperature to give the Arrhenius plot. By using the acceleration test, several useful lifetime prediction for rail-pads were proposed.
