A Lightweight Packet Filter for Embedded System (임베디드 시스템을 위한 경량의 패킷필터)

  • The advance of computer and communication technologies enables the embedded systems to be equipped with the network communication interfaces. Their appearance in network leads to security issues on the embedded systems. An easy way to overcome the security problem is to adopt the packet filter that is implemented in the general computer systems. However, general packet filters designed for host computers are not suitable to embedded systems because of their complexity. In this paper, we propose a lightweight packet filter for embedded systems. The lightweight packet filter is implemented in the kernel code. And we have installed a Web-GUI interface for user to easily set the filtering policies at remote space. The experimental results show that the proposed packet filter decreases the packet delivery time compared to the packet filter designed for host computers and it is comparable to the systems without packet filter.

  • In this paper. we propose receiver algorithms for VHF(Very High Frequency) digital link mode-2(VDL Mode-2) systems. Unlike conventional digital communication systems using the root raised cosine filter as a transmit and receive filter, raised cosine filter is used as a transmit filter in VDL Mode-2 systems. Hence, it is crucial to design and implement the optimum lowpass receive filter by considering the amount of inter-symbol interference and noise performance. On the other hand, due to the short preamble pattern, it is crucial to develop an efficient packet detection algorithm for reliable communication link. In this paper, we design the optimum receive filter and packet detection algorithm and evaluate the performance of receiver adopting the proposed receive filter and packet detection algorithm.

  • A divided matched filter-reference filter(MF-RF) technique for LEO satellite packet transmission is proposed to increase the packet throughput in the presence of severe Doppler shift and fading. To overcome the severe Doppler shift, the divided matched filter is adopted where the integration region of matched filter is divided and ouputs of divided matched filer are added to decide the correct pseudo-noise (PN) phase. To maintain the constant false alarm rate in time varying interference and fading channel, the adaptive threshold for acquisition is obtained from the reference filter. As a performance measure, average acquisition time and packet throughput are used, and the effets of the parameters, i.e., Doppler shift, chip energy to noise ratio, user velocity, standard deviation of shadowing, and preamble length are shown.

  • A new method of all optical packet header recognition scheme using a photorefractive hologram filter is presented. Wavelength encoded packet that has the header of a specific wavelength is assumed and the photorefractive filter can detect the wavelength. Concatenated electronics drives the optical switch to route the $\lambda$-encoded optical packet. The delay time at the switched signals are measured and compared with the original data stream.

  • Due to the emergence of new application programs and the fast growth of Internet users, Internet routers are required to provide the quality of services according to the class of input packets, which is identified by wire-speed packet classification. For a pre-defined rule set, by performing multi-dimensional search using various header fields of an input packet, packet classification determines the highest priority rule matching to the input packet. Efficient packet classification algorithms have been widely studied. Tuple pruning algorithm provides fast classification performance using hash-based search against the candidate tuples that may include matching rules. Bloom filter is an efficient data structure composed of a bit vector which represents the membership information of each element included in a given set. It is used as a pre-filter determining whether a specific input is a member of a set or not. This paper proposes new tuple pruning algorithms using Bloom filters, which effectively remove unnecessary tuples which do not include matching rules. Using the database known to be similar to actual rule sets used in Internet routers, simulation results show that the proposed tuple pruning algorithm provides faster packet classification as well as consumes smaller memory amount compared with the previous tuple pruning algorithm.

  • Femtocells are viewed as a promising option for mobile operators to improve coverage and provide high-data-rate services in a cost-effective manner Femtocells can be used to serve indoor users, resulting in a powerful solution for ubiquitous indoor and outdoor coverage. TThe frequency accuracy and phase alignment is necessary for ensuring the quality of service (QoS) forapplications such as voice, real-time video, wireless hand-off, and data over a converged access medium at the femtocell. But, the GPS has some problem to be used at the femtocell, because it is difficult to set-up, depends on the satellite condition, and very expensive. The IEEE 1588 specification provides a low-cost means for clock synchronisation over a broadband Internet connection. The Time of Packet (ToP) specified in IEEE 1588 is able to synchronize distributed clocks with an accuracy of less than one microsecond in packet networks. However, the timing synchronization over packet switched networks is a difficult task because packet networks introduce large and highly variable packet delays. This paper proposes an enhanced filter algorithm to reduce ths packet delay variation effects and maintain ToP slave clock synchronization performance. The results are presented to demonstrate in the intra-networks and show the improved performance case when the efficient ToP filter algorithm is applied.

  • WPM(Wavelet Packet Modulation) is multicarrier system which is suitable for high speed transmission. The main advantage of using the WPM system is the fact that the flexible system effectively can be realized by the combination of filter coefficient. On the other hand, the major problem of multicarrier system is known to be the high PAPR. In this paper we propose WPM system that has a minimum PAPR by using filter coefficient adjustment method. We first derive the filter coefficient equation and then select the coefficient that has a minimum PAPR. we conduct WPM system by using a selected coefficient and we demonstrate the system performance by using computer simulation.

Packet Error Rate Characteristics of an Optical Packet Switching Node with an Optical Packet Address Processor Using an EDFA Preamplifier (광 패킷 어드레스 처리기에 EDFA 전치 증폭기를 사용한 광 패킷 교환 노드의 패킷 오율 특성)

  • The packet error rates of an optical packet switching node with an optical address processor using an EDFA in order to detect M-ary correlation pulses at a fiber-optical delay line matched filter output have been evaluated. Effects of A PIN diode NEP, the gain and noise figure of the EDFA, and the bandwidth of an optical filter on the packet error rate of the switching node have been compared. There is negligible error rate change depending upon the variation of the PIN diode NEP and the EDFA gain. If the bandwidth of the optical filter is below 10 times of the data rate, there is no appreciable effect on the error rate. If the noise figure of the EDFA increases, however, the power penalty increases as much as the noise figure increment at all the bit rates and for address code sets considered in this work.

Multi-match Packet Classification Scheme Combining TCAM with an Algorithmic Approach

  • Packet classification is one of the essential functionalities of Internet routers in providing quality of service. Since the arrival rate of input packets can be tens-of-millions per second, wire-speed packet classification has become one of the most challenging tasks. While traditional packet classification only reports a single matching result, new network applications require multiple matching results. Ternary content-addressable memory (TCAM) has been adopted to solve the multi-match classification problem due to its ability to perform fast parallel matching. However, TCAM has a fundamental issue: high power dissipation. Since TCAM is designed for a single match, the applicability of TCAM to multi-match classification is limited. In this paper, we propose a cost- and energy-efficient multi-match classification architecture that combines TCAM with a tuple space search algorithm. The proposed solution uses two small TCAM modules and requires a single-cycle TCAM lookup, two SRAM accesses, and several Bloom filter query cycles for multi-match classifications.
