The results of potentiostatic electrolysis of aqueous solution containing fluoride by bipolar packed bed electrolytic cell filled with granular aluminium were summarized. Removal efficiency of fluoride ion which it analyzed with ion chromatograph were 53, 73, 90% in applied voltage. Control the concentration of supporting electrolyte were 10, 30, 50, 70 mg/L and volume of packing material were 0, 25, 50, 75%, respectively, the quantity of electricity was $2.58A{\cdot}hr$ when the concentration of supporting electrolyte was 50 mg/L and the volume of packing material was 75%. As the results of electrolytsis of fluoride aqueous solution containing fluoride 10, 30, 50, 70 mg/L for 3 hours at 10 V, the removal efficiency of fluoride were 93.3, 80, 68.6%. Then the quantity of electricity were 2.58, 3.89, $5.43A{\cdot}hr$ and the fluoride removal amounts per quantity of electricity were 4.0, 3.5, $2.0mg/A{\cdot}hr$.
To develop simple and efficient transformation methods of monocotyledonous plane, electroporation-mediated delivery of DNA into intact embryogenic cell clumps was investigated in zoysiagrass and rice. Calli of zoysiagrass, induced from 3-week-old immature embryos, were suspension-cultured in MS basic medium supplemented with 1.0 mg/t 2.4-D and used for elechuporation. Calli, derived from immature inflorescences of 20 mm lenth of rice, were also suspension-cultured on N6 basic medium supplemented with 1.0 mg/L 2.4-D. Suspension-cultured embryogenic cell clumps were electroporated in liqid MS medium added with a Plasmid DNA (30 $\mu\textrm{m}$/ml), pGA1074, encoding ${\beta}$-glucuronidiase (GUS). DNA delivery into the cells through cell walls and cell membrane was confirmed by the transient expression of the GUS gene. Cell clumps of zoysiagrass and rice, electroporated with 400 volt at 800 pF capacitance, expressed GUS gene activity at a mean frequency of 25 units (one unit = one clony of blue cells) per 200 ${\mu}\ell$ of packed cell volume. Untreated cells and healed non-embryogenic cells did not exhibit GUS activity These results indicate that electroporation-mediated transformation can use intact embryogenic cells (thus avoiding the use protoplasts) in zoysiagrass and rice.
Monoclonal antibodies are widely used as diagnostic reagents and for therapeutic purposes, and their demand is increasing extensively. To produce these proteins in sufficient quantities for commercial use, it is necessary to raise the output by scaling up the production processes. This review describes recent trends in high-density cell culture systems established for monoclonal antibody production that are excellent methods to scale up from the lab-scale cell culture. Among the reactors, hollow fiber bioreactors contribute to a major part of high-density cell culture as they can provide a tremendous amount of surface area in a small volume for cell growth. As an alternative to hollow fiber reactors, a novel disposable bioreactor has been developed, which consists of a polymer-based supermacroporous material, cryogel, as a matrix for cell growth. Packed bed systems and disposable wave bioreactors have also been introduced for high cell density culture. These developments in high-density cell culture systems have led to the monoclonal antibody production in an economically favourable manner and made monoclonal antibodies one of the dominant therapeutic and diagnostic proteins in biopharmaceutical industry.
Many plants, which collected from Korea, were applied to antitumor and cytotoxic screeing tests against sarcom 180 a ascitec in mice, V-79 KB and P388 cultured cells. The results are summarixed as follows:1) The total packed cell volum method has been used for the antineoplastic screening for from natural higher plants in Korea. By this method, we have found out that the root, leaf and stem of Tripterygiu, regelii Spragne & Taketa having strong antineoplastic activity and also Rumex Japonicus Houtt. Eragrositis ferru-ginea Beauv. and Patrinia scabio-saefolia Fischer showed significant activity to anticancer tumor while cynanchum wilfordii Hemsley, and Rosa polyantha Sieb. et Zacc. showed slight activity to antitumor. 2) Among the 13 tested plants, the root and stem of Tripterygium regelii Spragne & Taketa and Amethystanthus excisus Nakai showed strong antitumor activity by the V79 cytotoxic cell screening test. 3) Twelve plants, which are glowing in mountainous area of Korea tested to anticancer activity. From the results, Eragrositis ferru-ginea Beauv., Angelica gigas Nakai, Geranium sibiricum L., Patrinia scabio-saefolia Fisher, Cynanchum wilfordii Hemsley, and Rubia akane Nakai have been proved to be anti-cancer plants by using P388 cell cultured method. 4) Tripterygiu, resgelii Spragne & Taketa, Eragrositis ferru-ginea Beauv., Patrinia scabio-saefoli Fisher, Cynanchum wilfordii Hemsley and Rasa polyantha Sieb. et Zacc., var. genuina Thunb. showed strong anti-tumor activity both total packed cell volume method and Cytotoxicity method.
To determine the effects of exposure to formalin on the secondary stress indices, changes in haematology and blood chemistry were monitored in healthy crucian carps (Carassius auratus). Fishes were separately exposed in a concentration range of 125 to 500 ppm formalin for 60 min. After exposure, red blood cell (RBC) count and packed cell volume (PCV) were elevated in the 500 ppm formalin exposed group. However, mean corpuscular volume (MCV) and mean corpuscular haemoglobin (MCH) were decreased significantly in the 500 ppm formalin exposed group. Total protein, albumin, aspartate aminotransferase (AST), alanine aminotransferase (ALT), creatinine, total bilirubin, inorganic phosphorus (IP) and magnesium were significantly increased at a concentration of 500 ppm. Alkaline phosphatase (ALP) and glucose were increased at a concentration of 500 ppm, but this was not significant. Lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) and calcium were significantly decreased at concentrations of 250 and 500 ppm. AST, ALT, glucose and magnesium were significantly increased in the 250 ppm formalin exposed group. These results suggests that formalin exposure might cause some damage in the liver and kidney of crucian carp.
This experiment was Conducted ta screening for the anti-cancer efficacy from the wild plants which are naturally growing in the Korea. The results are as follows. The results were shown thatZea may L. nad significantly effects on mediculal efficacy anganist anti-tumor by usulg the totalpacked cell volume methods and also, severals plants, such as Sofonum nigrum, Patrinia hispidoBunge, Eragrostis, ferrugenia Beauv, Salaginela pouzolgiana Spring, Platrycarya strobilacea Bunge,Codonopsis lanceolata Benth. et Hook fil. which are collected from Giri and Mooju mountain in Koreaand Nagano in Japan were showed effects on auti-tumor. But the pharmaceologial activities ofPharbitis nil Choisy was believed to strong effec on anti - cancer tumors, while toxicity of its wasshown high that induced te kill all used mice. Extraction of Patrinia hispida Bunge, Pharbitis nilChoisy, Toilis japonica DC, Eragrostis erruginea Beauv. and Forsythia koreana Nakai showed effec-tively supressed on growth rate of cancer tumor by the below 50 percent of T/C ratio at 30mg /mlof extraction from plant. That Is strong activity while Reynouxria japonica Houtt. was observed onlymild activities. The above results many possibly suggest that Patrinia hispido Bunge and Eragrostisferrugina Beauv. inhibited the growth of cancer tumor by the both total packed cell volume methodand cytotoxicity method. Although basic research is still going on, we will find out an accurate moth-od for developing useful medicinal plant to improve pharmacological activites against anti-cancertumor, especialy, in Eragrostis ferruginea Beauv.
The experiments tvere carried out to different temperature which affected growth, yield, proximate and antitumor activity in the Codonopsis lanceolata. Growth of aerial part and subterranean partwere best at 2$0^{\circ}C$ and lower 3$0^{\circ}C$. Components of fat, protein and fiber were best at 3$0^{\circ}C$. Wild C.fonceoforo had higher contents of fat, protein, fiber and ash as compared with cultur'ed C.lanceolataArginin was predominant amino acid in both wild and cultivated C.laceolata No significant differ-ence in the mineral contents was found between the wild root and the cultivated at 30'c inbiotronroom. No minerals difference in the contents was found between the cultivated temperature. The content of elements of inorganic metal differs according to the part. C. lanceolata were subjectedto preliminary antitumer screening test with Sarcoma 180 ascites and screening on V-79 cell. Thisexperiments were conducted in accordance with the total packed cell volume method and cytotoxicity method.
This study was conducted to investigate the hematological changes of the dogs when administrated excessive amount of the Artemisia capillaris extract for a short period. In this experiment, clinically healthy dogs(n = 20, average weight = 7.68 kg) were divided into 2 groups : Artemisia capillaris rude juice extract group(CR) and concentrated extract group(CE). They were inserted stomach tube and administrated the extracts (5 ml/kg) for 8 days. The followings are the results of this experiment.: 1). The number of red blood cell(RBC) was significantly (p<0.05) decreased in CE group on day 4, 5, 6, whereas CJE group showed significantly (p<0.05) difference on day 5. 2). The packed cell volume(PCV) and hemoglobin concentration were significantly (p<0.05) decreased in both groups during experimental periods. 3). The met hemoglobin was significantly (p < 0.05) increased from 12 hrs after administration to day 8 in CJE group wheres, it was significantly (p<0.05) increased on day 6,7 in CE group.

This report describes the first clinical case of a transfusion-associated Mycoplasma haemocanis infection in a dog in Korea. A 6-year-old male Maltese underwent a red blood cell transfusion for idiopathic immune-mediated hemolytic anemia. Eighteen days after the blood transfusion, the recipient's packed cell volume decreased and basophilic organisms were found on erythrocytes. A polymerase chain reaction and sequential analysis showed that both the donor dog and recipient dog had M. haemocanis. Six weeks after doxycycline administration, no organisms were detected and the recipient's anemia had improved.
Excessive phosphorus in aquatic systems causes algal bloom resulting in eutrophication, DO depletion, decline in recreational value of water and foul tastes. To treat wastewater containing phosphorus including effluent of wastewater treatment plant, the continuous experiments were performed by using electrochemical way. The spherical ZVI and silica sand which act as physical filter are packed at appropriate volume ratio of 1:2. Electric potential is applied externally which can be changed as per the operational requirement. The results indicate that optimum hydraulic retention time of 36 minutes (10 mL/min at 1 L reactor) was required to meet the effluent standards. Lower concentrations of phosphorus (<10 mg/L as phosphate) were removed by precipitation by contact with iron. Thus, additional electric potential was not required. In order to remove high concentration phosphorus around 150 mg/L as phosphate, external electric potential of 600 V was applied to the reactor.
