Synthesis of sub-micron $2SnO{\cdot}(H_2O)$ powders by chemical reduction process was performed at room temperature as function of viscosity of methanol solution and molecular weight of PVP (polyvinylpyrrolidone). Tin(II) 2-ethylhexanoate and sodium borohydride were used as the tin precursor and the reducing agent, respectively. Simultaneous calcination and sintering processes were additionally performed by heating the $2SnO{\cdot}(H_2O)$ powders. In the synthesis of the $2SnO{\cdot}(H_2O)$ powders, it was possible to control the powder size using different combinations of the methanol solution viscosity and the PVP molecular weight. The molecular weight of PVP particularly influenced the size of the synthesized $2SnO{\cdot}(H_2O)$ powders. A holding time of 1 hr in air at $500^{\circ}C$ sufficiently transformed the $2SnO{\cdot}(H_2O)$ into $SnO_2$ phase; however, most of the PVP (molecular weight: 1,300,000) surface-capped powders decomposed and was removed after heating for 1 h at $700^{\circ}C$. Hence, heating for 1 h at $500^{\circ}C$ made a porous $SnO_2$ film containing residual PVP, whereas dense $SnO_2$ films with no significant amount of PVP formed after heating for 1 h at $700^{\circ}C$.

In this work, improvement of mechanical and electrical properties of gate dielectric layer for flexible organic thin film transistor (OTFT) devices was investigated. In order to increase the mechanical flexibility of PVP (poly(4-vinyl phenol) organic gate dielectric, a very thin inorganic $HfO_2$ layers with the thickness of $5{\sim}20nm$ was inserted in between the spin-coated PVP layers. Insertion of the inorganic $HfO_2$ in the laminated organic/inorganic structure of PVP/$HfO_2$/PVP layer led to a dramatic reduction in the leakage current compared to the pure PVP layer. Under repetitive cyclic bending, the leakage current density of the laminated PVP/$HfO_2$/PVP layer with the thickness of 20-nm $HfO_2$ layer was not changed, while that of the single PVP layer was increased significantly. Mechanical flexibility tests of the OTFT devices by cyclic bending with 5 mm bending radius indicated that the leakage current of the laminated PVP/$HfO_2$(20 nm)/PVP gate dielectric in the device structure was also much smaller than that of the single PVP layer.

$TiO_2$ nanofibers were fabricated by annealing electrospun $TiO_2$/PVP nanofibers for 3 h at $500^{\circ}C$ in air. Size and uniformity of electrospun $TiO_2$ nanofiber diameters were evaluated via XRD and SEM by varying electric field, PVP concentration, Ti tetraisopropoxide concentration and precursor flow rate. Experimental results revealed that the effect of PVP concentration on size and uniformity of electrospun $TiO_2$ nanofiber diameters was most profound, however, the other effects were relatively small. Uniform fibers with no beads were observed for the electrospun anatase titania nanofibers with a diameter of 170 nm.

The Pt-, Ni- and Cr-decorated tubular $SnO_2$ nanofibers for gas sensors were prepared by the electrospinning of polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) nanofibers containing Pt, Ni, and Cr precursors, the sputtering of $SnO_2$ on the electrospun PVP nanofibers, and the removal of sacrificial PVP parts by heat treatment at $600^{\circ}C$ for 2 h. Pt-decorated tubular $SnO_2$ nanofibers showed high response ($R_a/R_g=210.5$, $R_g$: resistance in gas, $R_a$: resistance in air) to 5 ppm $C_2H_5OH$ at $350^{\circ}C$ with negligible cross-responses to other interference gases (5 ppm trimethylamine, $NH_3$, HCHO, p-xylene, toluene and benzene). Cr-decorated tubular $SnO_2$nanofibers showed the selective detection of p-xylene at $400^{\circ}C$. In contrast, no significant selectivity to a specific gas was found in Ni-decorated tubular $SnO_2$ nanofibers. The selective and sensitive detection of gases using Pt-decorated and Cr-decorated tubular $SnO_2$ nanofibers were discussed in relation to the catalytic promotion of gas sensing reaction.
In this study, we examined the effects of molecular weight, concentrations and treat the duration of polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) in vitro maturation (IVM) medium (Experiment 1), and the effect of PVP in IVM, in vitro fertilization (IVF) and in vitro culture (IVC) medium on the development and cell number of porcine embryos (Experiment 2). The base mediums were NCSU 23 solution for IVM, mTBM solution for IVF and PZM3 solution for IVC. In experiment 1, the development rates to 2 cell and blastocyst stage were not differ from the different molecular weight (MW), concentration and duration of PVP in IVM medium. However, the hatching rate of blastocyst was significantly higher in the group of MW 40,000, 0.5% and $0{\sim}44hr$ than in the other groups (p<0.05). In experiment 2, the results of IVM, IVF and IVC medium with (W) or without (W/O) 0.5% MW 40,000 PVP are follows. The development rate to 2 cell stage was highest in the group of W-W/O-W (p<0.05). The development rate to blastocyst and hatching rate was higher in the group of W-W/O-W and W-W/O-W/O than that of other treatments (p<0.05).
ICR female mice aged 3 to 4 weeks, were stimulated with 7.5 IU PMS injection. At 48-52h post-PMS injection, ovaries were dissected out and oocytes-cumulus complexes(OCCs) were divided into three groups, cumulus-free oocytes(O), cumulus-free oocyte cocultured with cumulus cells(O+C) and OCC. The oocyte were cultured in TCM199 containing various protein sources, FCS, BSA or PVP with gonadotropins(Gns) for 24h. Spermatozoa were collected from cauda epididymis and capacitated in T6 + BSA for 2h. After oocyte maturation in vitro(IVM) in different experimental groups, matured oocytes were inseminated with the capacitated spermatozoa in T6 + BSA for 6h. In the groups of IVM in TCM + BSA or PVP, fertilization(IVF) did not occur efficiently. However, increased fertilization was found in TCM+ FCS group. The oocytes groups, with cumulus cells showed decreased polyspermy in FCS group (O; 31.8 %, O + C; 12.2 %, OCC; 16%), the addition of Gns did not prevent polyspermy in all three groups. The rates of fertilization increased in zona-free oocytes in PVP group. This results showed that culture system for IVM and IVF could be improved. Furthermore, PVP can be used for the substitution of protein source during maturation, and its low rate of fertilization has been found due to zona hardening which occurred in FCS-free medium.

Nano-size Au particle doped $TiO_2$ films were prepared with $Ti(OC_3H_7^i)_4$, polyvinylpyrrolidone(PVP), $HAuCl_4$ and $C_3H_7OH$ etc. by sol-gel method. $TiO_2$ gel films were obtained by the dip-coating method on the $SiO_2$ glass substrates, and then heat-treated at $700^{\circ}C$ for 10 min. The thickness of $TiO_2$ films were $0.7\~1.8\;{\mu}m$. It was found that the thickness of films prepared from PVP containing solution was about $2\~8$ times higher values than that of thin films without PVP. The size of Au particles doped in the films were about $350\~750\;nm$. Nano-size Au particle dispersed $TiO_2$ films showed high absorption peak at visible region 450nm, which made them good candidates for non-linear optical materials and photo-catalytic materials. The contact angle of $TiO_2$ film for water was $12.5^{\circ}$, and therefore it is clear that $TiO_2$ films have very high hydrophilic properties and the self-cleaning effects.

Room temperature oxidation of organic sulfides with polyvinylpyrrolidone-supported hydrogen peroxide (PVP-$H_2O_2$) in the presence of Mn(III) complexes of meso-tetraphenylporphyrin, Mn(TPP)X (X = OCN, SCN, OAc, Cl) and imidazole (ImH) leads to the highly chemoselective (ca. 90%) oxidation of sulfides to the corresponding sulfoxide. The efficiency of reaction has been shown to be influenced by different reaction parameters such as the nature of counterion (X) and solvent as well as the molar ratio of reactants. Using Mn(TPP)OCN and ImH in 1:15 molar ratio and acetone as the solvent leads to the efficient oxidation of different sulfides.
Hollow Sn and Pb nanoparticles have been prepared by a rapid injection of an aqueous solution of $SnCl_2$- poly(vinylpyrrolidone) (PVP, surfactant) and $Pb(OAc)_2${\cdot}$3H_2O-PVP$ into an aqueous solution of sodium borohydride (reducing agent) in simple, one-pot reaction at room temperature under an argon atmosphere, respectively. The two hollow nanoparticles have been fully characterized by TEM, HRTEM, SAED, XRD, and EDX analyses. Upon exposure to air, the black Pb hollow nanoparticles are gradually transformed into a mixture of Pb, litharge (tetragonal PbO), massicot (orthorhombic PbO), and $Pb_5O_8$. The order and speed of mixing of the reactants between the metal precursor-PVP and the reductant solutions and stoichiometry of all the reactants are crucial factors for the formation of the two hollow nanocrystals. The Sn and Pb hollow nanoparticles were produced only when 1:(1.5-2) and 1:3 ratios of the Sn and Pb precursors to $NaBH_4$ were employed with a rapid injection, respectively.
