Photovoltaic systems utilize the infinite clean energy of the sun, without creating any air pollution or noise and mechanical vibration. A PV system operates without the need of fuel, rotation surfaces, high temperatures or high pressures. It is therefore to do maintain and simple to install as well as having a long life cycle. The global market for PV systems continues to grow rapidly by 30[%] per year. This paper suggests a new design method for the PV system installation that will allow to the improvement of system efficiency. This method is in accordance with the loss parameter compensation method designed for the PV systems and investigated through simulation and practical experimentation. It was applied to an interconnected 10[kW] grid PV system and was demonstrated in the field. Features such as solar array, PCS, system efficiency, performance and stability were considered. Through the proposed optimal parameter design method, the features of the system were studied, and the 10[kW] PV system was demonstrated and analyzed.
In this paper, design and control is proposed for a four input-series-output-series-connected ZVS full bridge converter for the photovoltaic power conditioning system (PCS). The novel topology for a photovoltaic (PV) DC/DC converter that can dramatically reduce the power rating and increase the efficiency of a PV system by analyzing PV module characteristics is proposed. The control scheme, including an input voltage controller is proposed to achieve equal sharing of the input voltage as well output voltages by a four series connected module. Design methods for ZVS power stage are also introduced. The total PV system is implemented for a 250-kW PV power conditioning system (PCS). This system has only three DC/DC converters with a 25-kW power rating and uses only one-third of the total PV PCS power. The 25-kW prototype PV DC/DC converter is introduced to verify experimentally the proposed topology. In addition, an experimental result shows that the proposed topology exhibits good performance.
This paper presents effective design schemes for a photovoltaic (PV) and battery hybrid system that includes state-of-the-art technologies such as maximum power point tracking scheme for PV arrays, an effective charging/discharging circuit for batteries, and grid-interfacing power inverters. Compared to commonly-used PV systems, the proposed configuration has more flexibility and autonomy in controlling individual components of the PV-battery hybrid system. This paper also proposes an intelligent coordination scheme for the components of the PV-battery hybrid system to improve the efficiency of renewable energy resources and peak-load management. The proposed algorithm is based on a rule-based expert system that has excellent capability to optimize multi-objective functions. The proposed configuration and algorithms are investigated via switching-level simulation studies of the PV-battery hybrid system.
This paper proposes a the high efficiency tracking system regarding power loss when operating a tracking system for environment variable such as a rapidly changing insolation and shadow effect to improve the power of PV tracking system. To reduce the power loss, this paper proposes a novel control algorithm of the tracking system. And paper suggests a method controlling an altitude for length which is received the shadow influence of PV array. The paper is analyzed efficiency about conventional PV tracking method, comparing proposed algorithm with high performance method.
In this paper, the power loss due to PV module mismatch in PV string is analyzed and a mismatch compensation method is proposed to improve the efficiency of PV system. The analysis of mismatch loss using PV model simulation reveals that the mismatch module may decrease the total efficiency because the MPPT function of power conditioner make the PV system operate at the local maximum point. The mismatch loss can be severe if the maximum power point current of mismatch module is less than that of string. The proposed compensation method which is simply implemented with a buck type converter shows the possibility to remove the mismatch loss. The effectiveness of the analysis and compensation method is verified by a prototype experiment.
In this paper, an operating characteristics of a 50 kW gird-connected photovoltaic(PV) power system was analysed from 2000 to 2004. The construction of the PV system includes a 3-phase inverter for grid connection, PV module, distribution box, and data monitoring system. The major results of the demonstration test of the 50 kW class gird-connected PV system showed that efficiency of PV system was 11.13%, and the conversion efficiency of the inverter was 92% at a 50% load.
This paper presents an improved orientation strategy for energy-efficiency in photovoltaic (PV) panels. Conventionally, PV panels are tilted with the site's latitude angle or the difference between the latitude angle and the solar declination angle. A monthly-based orientation strategy has been proposed and analyzed in this study. The proposed strategy implies that the PV panels are tilted with the monthly-based angle that achieves the maximum incident radiation. Furthermore, the impact of using the proposed orientation strategy and three conventional strategies on the produced power and on the PV system design features has been investigated in detail. A Japanese city (Fukuoka) and an Egyptian city (Al-Kharijah) have been considered as locations for the PV power system installation. The results showed that the proposed strategy achieved an increase in the power produced from the PV power systems at the two different sites, and consequently the required solar cells area can be saved. Therefore, the cost of the PV power system components can be reduced including the solar cells area and the land area.
BIPV/T (Building Intergrated PhotoVoltaic/Thermal) is combined system produces electricity and thermal energy. The heat from PV modules should be removed for better electrical performance, and can be converted into useful thermal energy. The efficiency of the PV system's performance will raise by the system removes heat from the PV. The test system is installed to top floor of the experimental house in the KEPCO Research Institute. The planned experiment is following. (1) Supplying heat energy to top floor. (2) Supplying heat and cool energy to thermal storage in the bottom of the top floor. (3) Supplying heat energy to EHP for improved performance. The experimental performance is executed from 13th February to 13th March, 2012. The solar generation of electricity is 4.04kWh under the horizontal solar radiation is $1000W/m^2$ and the air temperature is $25^{\circ}C$.
In December 2017, the government announced plans to increase the current proportion of renewable energy from 7% to 20% by 2030 through a plan called the Renewable Energy 3020 Implementation Plan. Therefore, the demand for installation of photovoltaic(PV), wind turbine(WT) and battery energy storage system(BESS) is expected to increase. In particular, the system combined with energy storage system(ESS) is expected to take up a large portion since PV and WT can receive high renewable energy certificates(REC) weights when combined with ESS. In this study, we calculate the optimal capacity of the power conditioning system(PCS) and the BESS by comparing the economical efficiency and maximize the efficiency of the PV-BESS system in which the PV and the BESS are connected. By analyzing the system marginal price(SMP) and REC, it maximize profits through application of REC weight 5.0 and optimal charge-discharge scheduling according to the SMP changes.
