Study on Remote Monitoring System for manned island electrification in Korea (하화도 태양광발전시스템의 원격측정 시스템 연구)

  • Korean goverment is promoting "the Rural Electrification Project" to replace the diesel generators with PV power supply. The PV-diesel hybrid system are proven more cost effective than that of the existing, especially in the. case of small islands(less than 70 households). In this paper, we intend to introduce the Hahwado island PV system assisted with diesel generator and remote monitoring systems as observator. The purpose of this observator is to have minimum maintenance, to improve economical effciency and system reliability by checking the system periodically at certain time interval, and to make diagnosis of its operating situations. The remote monitoring system was designed to communicate between the central and local site through exclusive telephone line on real-time base, using Window '95 version.

  • Utility interactive photovoltaic systems is one of the most premising applications of photovoltaic systems. These systems are employed in applications where utility service is already available. In this case, there is no need for battery storage because utility power may be used to supplement photovoltaic systems when the load exceeds available PV generation. The load receives electricity from both the photovoltaic array and the utility inter-tied. In this paper, Principle and operating characteristic of Utility Interconnected Photovoltaic System is presented. For the purpose of optimal utility Inter-tied photovoltaic system design and installation. It is that demonstrate throughout the installed 3 PV system respectively, 3kW utility interconnected residential system.

  • In this paper, a operating characteristics of the 50 kW grid-connected Photovoltaic(PV) Power system which is by means of initial PV datum analyzing is reported. The development of a 50 kW class photovoltaic power generation system including a DC/AC inverter is suggested to investigate the system performance for grid connection. The results of the demonstration test of a 50 kW class grid-connected PV system show that the system utilization rate is 15.6% and the inverter efficiency is 94% at 80% load.

  • The conventional grid connected PV(Photovoltaic) system has a unstable output pattern due to its dependence on the weather condition, although solar-cell array averagely has a regular output characteristics to have a peak output nearly at noon. Therefore assuming the high density grid connection in the future, this unstable output pattern can be one of the main reasons to generate power disturbance such as voltage variation, frequency variation and harmonic voltage generation in low voltage distribution line. However general grid connected solar-cell system do not have functions to cope with these disturbances. Therefore this study proposed a advanced type grid connected PV system with functions to suppress output power fluctuation due to solar-cell array output variation and showed the levelling effect of fluctuation due to instantaneous array output variation.

  • This paper proposes the power management technology for stand-alone PV system to extend installation environment and coverage. The proposed power management technology in this paper can protect battery safeness from overcharge/discharge with keeping the proper SOC(State of Charge) and extend using time of system through estimation of operating power. The proposed power management technology in this paper is applied to Infra-free Variable Message Sign. And performance of power management technology in this paper was verified using simulation scenario.

  • The fundamental digital control of utility-connected PV inverter are presented with detailed analysis and simulation and experimental results. PLL controller using virtual two phase detector, current controller of DC-DC converter, dc link voltage controller and inverter current controller are discussed. The novel PLL controller using virtual two phase detector can detect the information of utility voltage instantaneously and is not sensitive to the noise. Current controller of DC-DC converter, dc link voltage controller and inverter current controller are the conventional methods. We have constructed utility-Connected PV Inverter and applied to those controllers. The simulation and experimental results demonstrate an excellent performance in the single-phase grid-connected operation.

  • This paper describes the element of solar cell's characteristics, photovoltaic system and solar tracking through experiment. Furthermore, it proposes the experiment results of the PV system is contained solar modules, power conditioning system and the solar tracking system using air compress charging energy The experimental results show that the PV system is always operated at maximum power of solar cells and tracking the sun in order to generate efficiently power generation and propose a capability of its application.

  • The application field of photovoltaic system which has no-pollution and no-fuel distinctives is being spreaded inspite of its high installation cost. At present, there are three PV systems within the country, which were already installed and have been operated to supply the electric power in remote island. In this paper, the electrification plan of our government on the unelectrified or subelectrified islands is introduced, and the operation results of three PV systems are investigated to discuss the diffusion possibility of PV system as a power supply option.
