  • In this research, a newly developed nature-inspired optimization method, the Lion Pride Optimization algorithm (LPOA), is utilized for optimal design of composite steel box girder bridges. A composite box girder bridge is one of the common types of bridges used for medium spans due to their economic, aesthetic, and structural benefits. The aim of the present optimization procedure is to provide a feasible set of design variables in order to minimize the weight of the steel trapezoidal box girders. The solution space is delimited by different types of design constraints specified by the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials. Additionally, the optimal solution obtained by LPOA is compared to the results of other well-established meta-heuristic algorithms, namely Gray Wolf Optimization (GWO), Ant Lion Optimizer (ALO) and the results of former researches. By this comparison the capability of the LPOA in optimal design of composite steel box girder bridges is demonstrated.

  • The main objective of this study was to investigate the pattern of glucosinolates, in terms of 3-butenyl isothiocyanate, and total glucosinolates, in different parts of young seedlings and seeds in Korean Chinese cabbages. For determination of glucosinolates, 55 days and Winter pride cultivars of Korean Chinese cabbages seeds and different parts of 1, 3, 5, and 7-day-old seedlings were used for analytical sample preparation provided with an anion exchanges column, and measured by GC and UV-visible Spectrophotometer. The concentration of 3-butenyl ITC was higher in the cotyledon and the hypocotyl parts of 55 days cultivar seedling than those of Winter Pride cultivar. In the cotyledon parts of Winter pride cultivar seedling, 3-butenyl ITC amount was increase to 3-day-old seedling and then reduced. The cotyledon of 55 days cultivar contained the highest concentration of total glucosinolates while those were increased in the hypocotyl and decreased in the root. The level of total glucosinolates was increased to 5-day-old seedling and then decreased in the cotyledon and the hypocotyl parts of seedling in Winter pride cultivar. There was no significant difference of total glucosinolates in the root part. In the seeds, 55 days cultivar concentration was higher than Winter pride cultivar both of 3-butenyl ITC and total glucosinolates. In our study, the levels of 3-butenyl ITC and total glucosinolates depended on cultivars, growth stages, and parts in Korean Chinese cabbage.

  • Pyroprocessing technology was developed in the beginning for metal fuel treatment in the US in the 1960s. The conventional aqueous process, such as PUREX, is not appropriate for treating metal fuel. Pyroprocessing technology has advantages over the aqueous process: less proliferation risk, treatment of spent fuel with relatively high heat and radioactivity, compact equipment, etc. The addition of an oxide reduction process to the pyroprocessing metal fuel treatment enables handling of oxide spent fuel, which draws a potential option for the management of spent fuel from the PWR. In this context, KAERI has been developing pyroprocessing technology to handle the oxide spent fuel since the 1990s. This paper describes the current status of pyroprocessing technology development at KAERI from the head-end process to the waste treatment. A unit process with various scales has been tested to produce the design data associated with the scale up. A performance test of unit processes integration will be conducted at the PRIDE facility, which will be constructed by early 2012. The PRIDE facility incorporates the unit processes all together in a cell with an Ar environment. The purpose of PRIDE is to test the processes for unit process performance, operability by remote equipment, the integrity of the unit processes, process monitoring, Ar environment system operation, and safeguards related activities. The test of PRIDE will be promising for further pyroprocessing technology development.

  • The purpose of this paper is to examine the effect of income-mix on place attachment as civic pride in Seoul. Place attachment and social mix are considered important in urban planning. However, place attachment is frequently thought to form more strongly in the homogeneous area. On the other hand, social mix policy is aimed to form more heterogenous area. So, the two concepts are thought to be incompatible. This paper focused on the income-mix which is kind of social mix, and used the 2013 "Seoul Survey" and 2010 "Household Travel Diary Survey" data. Based on the review of the literature, we used the civic pride in Seoul as the indicator of place attachment. The results of this paper indicate that the degree of income-mix increases, place attachment in Seoul also increases. Also, it appears that as regional income levels get higher, the effects of income-mix on place attachment decrease.

  • Background: Radiation dose rates in PRIDE facility is evaluated quantitatively for assessing radiation safety of workers because of large amounts of depleted uranium being handled in PRIDE facility. Even if direct radiation from depleted uranium is very low and will not expose a worker to significant amounts of external radiation. Materials and Methods: ORIGEN-ARP code was used for calculating the neutron and gamma source term being generated from depleted uranium (DU), and the MCNP5 code was used for calculating the neutron and gamma fluxes and dose rates. Results and Discussion: The neutron and gamma fluxes and dose rates due to DU on spherical surface of 30 cm radius were calculated with the variation of DU mass and density. In this calculation, an imaginary case in which DU density is zero was added to check the self-shielding effect of DU. In this case, the DU sphere was modeled as a point. In case of DU mixed with molten salt of 50-250 g, the neutron and gamma fluxes were calculated respectively. It was found that the molten salt contents in DU had little effect on the neutron and the gamma fluxes. The neutron and the gamma fluxes, under the respective conditions of 1 and 5 kg mass of DU, and 5 and $19.1g{\cdot}cm^{-3}$ density of DU, were calculated with the molten salt (LiCl+KCl) of 50 g fixed, and compared with the source term. As the results, similar tendency was found in neutron and gamma fluxes with the variation of DU mass and density when compared with source spectra, except their magnitudes. Conclusion: In the case of the DU mass over 5 kg, the dose rate was shown to be higher than the environmental dose rate. From these results, it is concluded that if a worker would do an experiment with DU having over 5 kg of mass, the worker should be careful in order not to be exposed to the radiation.

  • This study investigated the effects of self concept on impulsive purchase and after-buying emotional response. For these purposes, researcher compared the impulsive purchasing and after-buying emotional response by socially independent-dependent groups in self concept. The results of present research were as follow: First, impulsive purchase led to high after-buying emotional response such as guilt, regret, happiness, but it did not in pride. non-impulsive purchase led to high pride. Second, socially independent self concept led high impulsive purchase. Third, socially independent self concept moderated the effect of impulsive buying on guilt, regret, happiness, but it did not in pride also. These results show that socially independent consumers in self concept purchase cell-phone impulsively and have high guilt, regret, happiness in after-buying emotion. But the low pride would be interpreted that they don't think their impulsive purchases desirable.

  • Based on the stress process model, this study examined the process of how military personnel's occupational characteristics (i.e., long and unspecified work hours, frequent moving) is associated with their wives' marital satisfaction and parenting stress. We focused on whether the wives' perception toward the characteristics of military occupation and the wives' military family pride mediated the association. An online survey was conducted with 323 women married to professional active-duty military husbands, had at least one preschool child, and lived with the husband and child. Using structural equation modeling, we found that the wives' perception of military occupational characteristics and military family pride mediated the relationship between their husband's work hours and the wives' marital satisfaction and parenting stress. This serial multiple mediation indicated that the longer and more unspecified the husband's work hours were, the more negative the wife's perceptions were towards his military occupation, which led to lower marital satisfaction and higher parenting stress. The single mediation effect of negative perceptions was also significant. Frequent moving was indirectly related to the wives' marital satisfaction and parenting stress through only the wives' negative perceptions toward military occupational characteristics. This result indicates that military spouses who experienced frequent moves are likely to have more negative attitudes toward military occupation, which leads to lower marital satisfactions and higher parenting stress. This study contributes to the literature by identifying the underlying mechanisms between military occupational characteristics and military wives' family life through the mediating roles of negative perceptions and military family pride.
