  • To enhance the reliability and/or resilience of the PNT service included in the e-Navigation strategy of the IMO, the evaluation of the AIS-TWR method for the asynchronous R-mode for maritime service, which is available even in the absence of the GNSS, is described. For the AIS-TWR, which is capable of ranging through message exchange even without high precision synchronization, the operation scenario and the error factors according to the AIS system specifications are proposed and analyzed. Cramer-Rao Lower Bound is presented for the performance evaluation of the AIS-TWR algorithm. A simulation by AIS-TWR method of two AIS systems in a 3 km static environment shows estimation error of about 41m compared to the real value..

  • Perforating granuloma annulare (PGA), a rare variant of granuloma annulare, is characterized by transepidermal elimination of altered collagen that clinically manifests an umbilicated papule with a central crust. It can be confused with papulonecrotic tuberculid (PNT) because of their similar appearance. Unlike PGA, PNT is usually related to tuberculosis infection with a typical histologic finding of wedgeshaped dermal necrosis. Here, we report the first Korean case of PGA mimicking PNT both clinically and histologically. A 43-year-old Korean woman presented with erythematous papules localized on the extensor surface of her limbs for one year. Some of these papules had a central umbilication or a crust. Regarding comorbidity, she had latent tuberculosis diagnosed with $QuantiFERON^{(R)}-TB$ Gold test about five months ago. She was on antituberculous medication. Initially, a diagnosis of papulonecrotic tuberculid accompanied by latent tuberculosis was considered. However, despite taking the antituberculous medication for five months, her skin lesions were not improved. Biopsy specimen from her arm lesion showed wedge-shaped area of necrosis in the dermis. Additionally, there were multiple focal mucin depositions and palisading granulomatous inflammation throughout the dermis. A diagnosis of PGA was made and she was treated with topical corticosteroid. After two weeks of applying topical corticosteroid, most of her skin lesions disappeared, leaving some hyperpigmented scars.

  • The manufacture of current Loran-C signal receiver has been discontinued and there are no spare parts for that. eLoran system is being developed. Judging from these facts, it is necessary to purchase eLoran receivers which also can receive Loran-C signal. Furthermore, the coverage of Loran-C has been decreased as the closure of transmitting stations in Japan. The current monitor station in Ganjeolgot, Ulsan shall be moved to a new place.

  • National Maritime PNT Office is operating 17 DGPS reference sites. Considering the relatively small size of South Korea, however, we thought that it is maintaining too many stations. For this reason, new algorithms were developed to effectively generate Pseudo-Range Corrections for the purpose of providing consistent DGPS accuracies throughout the country even with a minimum number of stations.

  • Bimetallic Pd@Ni nanostructure exhibited enhanced co-catalytic activity for the selective hydrogenation of benzaldehyde compare to their monometallic counterparts. Impregnation of these mono/bimetallic nanostructures on mesoporous $TiO_2$ leads to several surface modifications. The bimetallic PNT-3 ($Pd_3@Ni_1/mTiO_2$) exhibited large surface area ($212m^2g^{-1}$), and low recombination rate of the charge carriers ($e^--h^+$). The hydrogenation reaction was analyzed under controlled experiments. It was observed that under UV-light irradiations and saturated hydrogen atmosphere the bimetallic PNT-3 photocatalyst display higher rate constant $k=5.31{\times}10^{-1}h^{-1}$ owing to reduction in the barrier height which leads to efficiently transfer of electron at bimetallic/$mTiO_2$ interface.

  • The tillering potential of panicle number type (PNT) rice greatly varies with planting density. Moreover, grain filling and ripening differ depending on the panicle position, which may further affect rice grain quality. The present study evaluated the grain quality of PNT rice sparsely planted to reduce production costs. The physicochemical characteristics of starch from the grains of PNT type rice 'Ilpum' planted at different densities (37, 50, 60, and 80 plants/3.3 m2) and at different positions of panicles (upper or lower on the culm) were determined. Overall, as the planting density decreased, the number of panicles increased but the starch content decreased, which further reduced the 1,000-grain weight. In particular, at the lowest density (37 plants/3.3 m2), protein content increased but particle size, enthalpy, and relative crystallinity decreased. The effects were more pronounced at lower than at upper panicle positions. These findings indicate that tillering potential differs with planting density, ultimately affecting the palatability of rice grains. Based on these findings, we propose restricting rice transplantation to a planting density of ≤37 plants/3.3 m2 to achieve the best quality of grains at lower costs and with less labor.

  • In modern industry, the Global Navigation Satellite System(GNSS) is utilized in various fields, where PNT information (P: Positioning, N: Navigation, T: Timing) is always provided and the accurate location estimation based on PNT information is required. In particular, in order to prevent the infection and the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic situation that began in 2019, the precise GNSS technology and various supporting techniques have been used, and, with active quarantine and efforts for the infection spread restrain around the world, we are facing the transition to an endemic situation. In fields of disease and E-health, the location information of users is absolutely necessary to track and monitor infectionous diseases and provide remote medical services, and GNSS plays a leading role in providing the accurate location information. This paper presents investigation results on the up-to-date research trends in which GNSS technologies are employed in the field of disease and E-health, and analyzes the results.

  • This study addresses on the design of performance monitoring system for the time synchronization service of the enhanced long-range navigation (eLoran) system, which has a representative ground-wave radio broadcast system capable of providing positioning, navigation, timing and data (PNT&D) services. The limitations of time-synchronized systems due to the signal vulnerabilities of the global navigation satellite system (GNSS) are explained, and the performance monitoring system for the eLoran timing service as a backup to the GNSS is proposed. The time synchronization service using eLoran system as well as system configurations and the user requirements in the differential Loran (dLoran) system are described to monitor the time synchronization performance. The results of the designed system are presented for long-term operation in the eLoran testbed environment. As the results of time performance monitoring, we were able to verify the time synchronization precision within 43.71 ns without corrections, 22.52 ns with corrections. Based on these results, the eLoran system can be utilized as a precise time synchronization source for GPS timing backup.
