A Lookup Table Based Loss Minimizing Control for FCEV Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motors

  • A loss minimizing controller is developed for a fuel cell electric vehicle (FCEV) permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM). The PMSM losses are modeled by some experimental equations. Applying Lagrangian to the loss function, a necessary condition for the optimality appears to be a fourth order polynomial, and the loss minimizing solutions are obtained by a simple numerical approach. On the other hand, the loss minimizing solutions are found by scanning the motor loss in the entire operating region. The two results agree well. The loss minimizing current sets for given torque and speed are made into a table, which is utilized as a look-up in the current control loop.

  • This paper proposes a nonlinear speed controller for a permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM). In this paper, the load torque is estimated by an extended Kalman filter (EKF) observer because the proposed controller needs its knowledge. To confirm the effectiveness of the proposed control scheme, simulations and experiments are performed under motor parameter variations with a prototype PMSM drive system.

  • A new modified trapezoidal modulating signal for a pulse width modulation (PWM) inverter suitable for a permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) drive is proposed in this paper. A new modulating signal for the PMSM drive is determined by the characteristic torque ripple of the motor with various electro-motive force (EMF). The proposed modulating signal is able to decrease the torque ripple even if the motor has sinusoidal EMF or non-sinusoidal EMF. By using the proposed modulating signal, the system reduced the torque ripple as well as achieved the effective utilization of the DC supply voltage for the inverter. Many improvements are accomplished by the PWM strategy adapting the modified trapezoidal modulating signal without a change in hardware.

  • 현재 자동차 산업은 내연기관에서 전기차 시스템으로 접어들고 있다. 전 세계적으로 탄소 중립 정책이 이를 가속화하고 있으며, 자동차 제조사들은 기존 내연기관 시스템으로는 불가능했던 기술들을 개발하고 있다. 대부분의 전기차에는 PMSM이 적용되고 있는데 부피가 크고 무거우며 토크 밀도가 낮다는 단점이 있다. AFPM은 기존 PMSM의 단점을 개선한 모터로, 부피와 무게가 작으며 토크밀도가 높다는 장점이 있어 전기차의 In-Wheel Motor System과 UAM에 적용되는 모터이다. 하지만 전기차는 도로 주행만 가능하고 UAM은 비행만 할 수 있기 때문에, 미래 모빌리티인 전기자동차와 UAM이 통합된 모빌리티를 개발하고자 한다. 본 과제에 적용되는 AFPM모터는 PMSM의 단점을 보완할 수 있기 때문에 전기차-UAM 트랜스포밍 모빌리티의 모터로 적합하다. 이 모빌리티는 자동차와 UAM의 역할을 모두 수행할 수 있어 효율적인 이동을 돕고 도시의 교통 인프라 문제를 완화할 수 있다.

Integrated Sliding-Mode Sensorless Driver with Pre-driver and Current Sensing Circuit for Accurate Speed Control of PMSM

  • This paper proposes a fully sensorless driver for a permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) integrated with a digital motor controller and an analog pre-driver, including sensing circuits and estimators. In the motor controller, a position estimator estimates the back electromotive force and rotor position using a sliding-mode observer. In the pre-driver, drivers for the power devices are designed with a level shifter and isolation technique. In addition, a current sensing circuit measures a three-phase current. All of these circuits are integrated in a single chip such that the driver achieves control of the speed with high accuracy. Using an IC fabricated using a $0.18{\mu}m$ BCDMOS process, the performance was verified experimentally. The driver showed stable operation in spite of the variation in speed and load, a similar efficiency near 1% compared to a commercial driver, a low speed error of about 0.1%, and therefore good performance for the PMSM drive.

  • This paper proposes a velocity control method for a permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) based on the Koopman operator that does not require model parameter information except for pole-pair of the motor and external load. First, the Koopman operator is derived using observable functions and observation data. Then, the desired q-axis current corresponding to the desired velocity is generated using the relationship between the continuous-time Koopman operator and the dynamics of PMSM. Also, the dynamic equation of PMSM is expressed as a linear form in observable space using the discrete-time Koopman operator. Finally, it is applied to the linear quadratic regulator (LQR) to derive the final form of control input. To verify the proposed method, the conventional cascade PI controller and the LQR controller configured with the existing technique are compared with the proposed method in the viewpoint of q-axis current generation and velocity tracking performance in an environment with noise and external load.

  • A back-electromotive force (back-EMF) estimator for a permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) uses the three-phase voltage references of a current controller to estimate rotor position. However, owing to voltage drops caused by the nonlinear characteristics of switches and passive components, the actual voltage in the motor and the three-phase voltage reference may not match. This study proposes a sensorless control method using a sine-wave output filter applied between the motor drive system and PMSM. The precise voltage in the motor can be measured with the sine-wave output filter and applied to the input of the estimator. Moreover, given that the voltage in the motor can be measured precisely at extremely low speeds, the stable operation range of the back-EMF estimator can be secured. Experimental results show that the proposed sensorless control method has stable operation at extremely low speeds compared with conventional sensorless control.

Design of Self-Starting Hybrid Axial Flux Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor Connected Directly to Line

  • In view of the current state of the reserves of electric energy generated resources and the share of electric motors in electricity consumption, many researches and studies related to efficiency in electric motors are being made. The presented work is related to the Axial Flux Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (AF-PMSM), which has recently undergone significant work based on the development of magnet and motor technology. In this study, a novel AF-PMSM was designed analytically through Finite Element Method (FEM) which can be started by connecting to a line such as an asynchronous motor in a transient state and can operate with high efficiency and power factor after synchronization in steady state without the need for an expensive motor drive. According to the obtained FEM results, a design with an efficiency class of IE4 of 5.5 kW shaft power, a 4 poles motor was obtained. As a result, economic calculations indicate that the extra cost of the designed Line start AF-PMSM with respect to the asynchronous motor is rapidly compensated by energy saving due to a more efficient operation, especially constant speed operations. As a result of the analysis obtained, the targeted values are reached. For induction motors and radial flux permanent magnet synchronous motors, a good alternative motor that can operate with high efficiency and power factor has been obtained.

코깅토크 측정장치 직접구동용 영구자석 동기전동기의 정밀속도 제어 (Precise Speed Control of Direct Drive PMSM for the Cogging Torque Measurement System)

  • Recently PMSM(Permanent magnet synchronous motor) are used for the various direct drive applications such as index table, telescope system and so on. Because the position/speed control performance of direct drive PMSM is directly affected by the torque ripple, there are lots of studies to reduce the cogging torque in the motor design stage. In order to verify the motor design, the reliable cogging torque measurement system is essentially required. The measured motor must be rotated in the constant speed under 1deg/sec so that the cogging torque profile is measured correctly. In this study, the cogging torque measurement system which uses the direct drive PMSM and the speed controller to rotate the measured motor in 0.1rpm(0.6deg/sec) has been developed. Simulink/xPC target was used for the controller and data acquisition system. Based on PI controller, DOB and AFC have been applied to eliminate the low frequency disturbances and the periodic speed ripple. The experimental results show the good performance of the speed regulation for the reference speed 0.1rpm and the reliable profile of the measured cogging torque by the developed speed controller.

인터넷 웹 기반의 PMSM원격제어시스템 (Internet Web-Based Remote Control System For Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor Drives)

  • 산업이 발전되어감에 따라 일반 가정에서 산업의 각 분야에 이르기까지 각종 전동기의 사용이 증가하고 있으며, 그 종류도 날로 다양해지고 있다. 이러한 이유로 산업전반에 널리 보급된 인터넷을 이용하여, 가변속 구동 시스템에 대해 원격조작하고, 일괄 관리하거나 실시간으로 관리기기의 상태를 파악하고, 데이터를 수집, 처리하는 것이 요구된다. 또한 인터넷을 통해 기기를 직접 제어, 관리함으로써 시간과 공간, 비용절감의 측면에서 큰 효과를 기대 할 수 있다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 인터넷 웹 기반의 PMSM 원격제어시스템 개발을 연구하였다. 인터넷을 이용한 원격제어를 위해 DSP 제어기 및 TCP/IP를 사용한 클라이언트/서버 시스템과 PMSM의 상태와 Data를 확인할 수 있는 웹 인터페이스를 개발하였다. 이 시스템은 웹 기반의 관리 프로그램을 통해 실시간으로 PMSM의 기동, 정지 및 가변속에 대한 제어와 모니터링이 가능하다.
