A Study on the Temporal Behavior of the Wall Voltage in a surface-type AC panel

  • Electric fields and the wall voltages in a surface-type AC PDP cell were measured using a Laser Induced Fluorescence Spectroscopy. For the condition of He 100Torr, 200V sustain voltage and 50kHz sustain frequency, the wall voltage dropped from about 50V to about -75V within $1{\mu}sec$ after the main discharge. And the wall voltage decreased with the rate of $10.8V/{\mu}sec$ due to the accumulation of the space charges after $1{\mu}sec$. But when the operating pressure was 40Torr, it increased with the rate of $4.5V/{\mu}sec$ because the diffusion effect of the wall charge on MgO surface was more dominant than the accumulation effect of the space charges. During the pulse-off period, the wall voltage decreased slightly due to the diffusion of the wall charge. When the sustain voltage was 250V, the self-erasing discharge occurred, and the absolute value of the wall voltage decreased rapidly just after the pulses were off, which was caused by the accumulation of the charges generated by the self-erasing discharge.

  • Plasma display panel is a potential candidate for HDTV, due to the fact that the screen size can easily be increased by a thick film technology. In this study, transparent dielectric materials which satisfied the requirements of dielectrics for PDP was developed using lead alumina borosilicate glasses. The Paste which had thixotropic behavior suitable for screen printing was made of this glass composition. the paste became more thixotropic as the particle size decreased. After firing, the cross sectional area of the thick film was analyzed by SEM. The voids in the thick film were removed using bimodal particle system. The dielectric thick film showed good adhesion characteristics.

  • In this paper, $Al_2$O$_3$/MgO belayer was prepared with Electron-beam evaporation and the properties of the film was investigated in order to improve the property of MgO film, which is used for the protection layer in PDP(Plasma Display Panel). $Al_2$O$_3$/MgO belayer were improved of roughness and it were condensed by annealing, and the result of XPS analysis for $Al_2$O$_3$/MgO belayer unchanged binding energy. To investigate electric characteristics, discharge properties of $Al_2$O$_3$/MgO belayer were compared with discharge minimum voltage for MgO monolayer through Ar discharge experiments.

  • The relationships between driving voltage and the wall charge distribution in the address period of surface discharge type AC Plasma Display Panel have been investigated. The quantity of wall charge on each electrode are detected simultaneously from the electrode current after applying only one addressing discharge pulse. The wall charge Qy on the scan electrode Y is nearly the sum of Qx on the address electrode X and Qz on the sustain electrode Z. The Qy increased with the driving voltage regardless of the kind of electrode, whereas the address time Td decreased, Qz and Qy are increased considerably with the blocking voltage Vz, whereas Qx is decreased. The increase rate of Qx, Qy and Qz for increase in Vz was $-13{\times}10^{-2}$ (pc/Vz), and $60{\times}10^{-2}$ (pc/Vz) and $70{\times}10^{-2}$(pc/Vz), respectively.

  • A new type $Cu_{x}N/Cu/Cu_{x}N$ thin film electrode material with high adhesion to glass was developed by the dc reactive planar magnetron sputtering system for the PDP(Plasma Display Panel). The adhesive force of the $Cu_{x}N$ thin film was in the range of $20{\sim}40(N)$ under the conditions of the $N_2$ partial pressure of 15%, discharge current of 70mA, discharge voltage of 450V and substrate bias voltage of -100V. The adhesive force was depended on the $N_2$ partial pressure, discharge current and substrate bias voltage.

Effect of Alkaline Earth Metal Oxides addition on the Low-voltage Characteristics of MgO Films as a Protective layer for AC PDPs (PDP 보호막용 MgO 박막의 저전압 특성에 미치는 알카리토금속산화물 첨가 효과)

  • Alkaline earth metal oxides were added to the conventional MgO films as a protective layer for dielectric materials to have lower firing voltage(Vf) of the plasma display panel(PDP). Panels with various protective layers of MgO-alkaline earth metal oxides were prepared on glass by using e-beam evaporation and its effect on firing voltage characteristics were investigated. (Ba-Mg)O films had poor voltage characteristics because of higher activation energy of BaO. But, (Sr-Mg)O, (Ca-Mg)O and (Ca-Sr-Mg) O had better voltage characteristics than the conventional MgO. A mixture film of (Mg-Ca-Sr)O show the lowest firing voltage which is less than that of MgO by 20V. The chemical composition to have lowest firing voltage is MgO:SrO:CaO ratio of 6:2:2. The mixture of MgO-Alkaline earth metal oxides films showed good transmittance properties within the visual range.

  • This paper proposes a new sustaining driver for AC PDP(Plasma Display Panel), which improves the performance of conventional circuit with reduced sustain voltage such as TERES(TEchnology of REciprocal Sustainer). In the TERES circuit, the sustain voltage is the half of general sustaining driver and there is no energy recovery circuit. The circuit proposed in his paper has an energy recovery circuit and removes surge currents. Although the energy recovery circuit is added, the number of active switching elements is the same as the TERES circuit. The operations of the proposed circuit are analyzed for each mode and its validity is verified by the simulations using PSpice program.

  • Zn/sub 2-x/Mn/sub x/SiO/sub 4/ phosphors for PDP were synthesized by solid state reaction method. The effects of firing temperature, ratio of hydrogen gas to nitrogen for heat treatment and concentration of activator and co-dopants on the luminous properties have been investigated. It was found that the phosphor fabricated at 1400℃ with x = 0.002 Mn concentration had a maximum brightness. Luminous properties of a phosphor were improved when Cr/sup 3+/ was added as a co-dopant rather than other co-dopants.

  • 본 연구에서는 진공 인라인 실장 기술을 이용하여 제작한 플라즈마 디스플레이 패널(PDP)의 전기적 광학적 특성을 측정하여, 일반적인 실장 방법을 이용한 PDP의 특성과 비교 분석하였다. 본 실험에 사용된 패널은 Screen Printer를 이용한 상 하부전극과 하판 유전체, 상판 투명유전체, 격벽 및 E-Beam Evaporation 방법을 이용하여 증착한 MgO 보호막으로 이루어져 있으며, 분위기 온도 $430^{\circ}C$, Ne-Xe(4%) 400[torr]압력 하에서 실장하였다. 높은 분위기 온도로 인하여 MgO에 Crack이 발생하였으나 지속적인 연구를 진행하여 최적의 실장 조건을 확립할 수 있었다. 이러한 진공 인라인 실장 기술은 추가적인 Annealing 공정이 필요하지 않아 공정의 단축을 모색할 수 있으며, MgO의 수화를 제거함으로써 일반적인 실장 방법을 이용한 패널보다 더 우수한 전기적 광학적 특성을 얻을 수 있었다.

  • There are several kinds of displays such as liquid crystal display (LCD), cathode ray tube (CRT), plasma display panel(PDP), light emitting diode (LED), organic light emitting diode (OLED), etc. Nowadays, recycling technologies of waste displays have been widely studied from economy and efficiency points of view. In this paper, patents and literature on the recycling technologies of the waste displays have been comprehensively analyzed. The search was limited to the open patents of USA (US), European Union (EU), Japan (JP), and Korea (KR) and SCI journals published from 1980 to 2011. Patents and journals were systematically compiled and collected using key-words search and filtered by pre-set filtering criteria. The trends of the patents and journals were thus analyzed according to the years, countries, companies, and technologies.
