PC-Camera based Monitoring for Unattended NC Machining (무인가공을 위한 PC 카메라 기반의 모니터링)

  • In order to make best use of NC machine tools with minimal labor costs, they need to be in operation 24 hours a day without being attended by human operators except for setup and tool changes. Thus, unattended machining is becoming a dream of every modern machine shop. However, without a proper mechanism for real-time monitoring of the machining processes, unattended machine could lead to a disaster. Investigated in this paper are ways to using PC camera as a real-time monitoring system for unattended NC milling operations. This study defined five machining states READY, NORMAL MACHINING, ABNORMAL MACHINING, COLLISION and END-OF-MACHINING and modeled them with DEVS (discrete event system) formalism. An image change detection algorithm has been developed to detect the table movements and a flame and smoke detection algorithm to detect unstable cutting process. Spindle on/off and cutting status could be successfully detected from the sound signals. Initial experimentation shows that the PC camera could be used as a reliable monitoring system for unattended NC machining.

  • A monitoring system for the security is increasingly demanded in line with the issue of the infringement of privacy. This paper has conducted the study on the monitoring technique via the Internet using PC or PDA. This is a monitoring system for web-camera based home server, which transmits the images and sound data captured by mike-embedded USB camera, though multiplexer of H.263 and internet. It integrates the operating processors of each device into a unified drive module and provides it the operator to facilitate the system operation and maintenance.

  • This paper deals with the real-time monitoring and control system using PC, PDA(Win CE embedded device) and PCS(based BREW platform). The camera attached to the server captures the moving target, and the captured frame of color image is encoded in JPEG for image compression at the server. The client(PC, PDA, PCS) receives the image data from the remote server and the received image is decoded from decompression. We use the TCP/IP protocol to send the image frames. The client can control the position of the camera by sending the control command to the server. Two DC servo motors for the camera are controlled in any directions, up-down and left-right, by the controller which is communicating with the server via the serial communication to get the control command. In this way, on the client we can monitor the moving images at the server and also control the position of the camera.

  • We have implemented image monitoring system on PXA255 processor based embedded board that is ported QT/Embedded 2.3.7 version. User is able to monitor camera's capture image for widely separated host PC at client PXA255 board target board by ethernet communication method. And we designed PCI interface card that control motor for camera's Pan & Tilt. Bitmap format's images of $320\times{240}$ size are displayed on PXA255 board's TFT-LCD and User is able to monitor wanted position's image by touch screen input method.

  • In this paper, we propose an unmanned patient monitoring system design and performance of a motion capture and sound detection. Unmanned patient monitoring system can be used in the greek koma and meaning deep sleep patient to need 24 hour surveillance. To monitoring, we used laptop, CCTV camera (or PC camera), A/D converter, microphone and detection program. The detection program based on the frame difference method and sound level meter. It had several functions such as data collecting and storing. All of this system was tested in several the simulations of emergency situations. It can be expected that an unmanned patient monitoring system can be used in emergency situation and patient care.

  • In this paper, we developed a network camera for CMOS camera module inspection. The design, implementation details including embedded linux porting and CPLD logics, and performance of network camera are described. The network camera consists of SoC(S3C4530A), CPLD and CMOS image sensor. In order to image data of CMOS image sensor we designed capture logics on CPLD by using VHDL program. Embedded Linux such as uClinux is performed on the network camera to utilize development environment and TCP/IP protocol specification. The application is based on socket communication between GUI on PC and Embedded Linux based network camera. When JPEG compression is applied, the transmission speed was improved enough for this system to be used for an alternative of expensive CCTV or remote monitoring system in a power plant and uninhabited places.

  • In electric railway, image monitoring using high speed camera provides reliable, timely information of wear and geometry status, important in taking decisions for overhead contact wire maintenance. The contribution of this research is the development of a simple real-time monitoring system for use in measurement subsystem of contact wire and geometry of overhead contact wire in electric railway. The system has been consists of a high speed CMOS camera with resolution $1024{\times}1280$ pixels, line type laser source and PC-based image acquisition system with PCI Express slot. Vision acquisition software have been used in application programming interface for image acquisition, display, and storage with a frequency of sampling of 500 acquisitions per second.

  • In this paper, an Internet-based monitoring system is studied which analyzes visual image of drifted snow and measures the amount of snowing. The system is composed with reference ruler where LED's are attached, a camera, and PC with a controller. The length of the ruler is 1.5m and the interval of the LED's is 1cm. The controller synchronizes the on-off control of each LED with the image frame of the camera. When the snow is accumulated along the ruler, the corresponding LED is blocked and the lowest position of the lighted LED is estimated with this captured image of the camera. Because of week intensity of LED light and light rays of outdoors, it is hard to discriminate which LED is blocked due to snow.   • It has been increasing that the use of Mobile Internet these days. And the demand of user is changing from the text based services to multimedia based data services like pictures, sounds and streaming videos in Mobile Internet. In this paper, It is proposed a remote monitoring system that .an transfer the video data through WAP(Wireless Application protocol) based Mobile Internet used generally in anywhere. And this system is a low-cost efficient system compared with a existing high-cost Internet Camera system, using video module connected to Internet directly and PC-based server. In this paper, It is explained a design and implementation of such WAP-based remote monitoring system.

  • The KASINICS (KASI Nea.-Infrared Camera System) is a ground-based instrument developed by the Korea Astronomy and Space Science Institute (KASI). We developed a temperature and vacuum monitoring system for operating the KASINICS. The system consists of hardware and software parts. The acquired data we saved on a hard disk in a real-time mode. This system on also be applied to general cryogenic instruments. We tested our monitoring system for the cooling and vacuum performance of the KASINICS. The results show that our system is efficient and stable for the operation of the KASINICS.
