  • Today the various types of communication and application service are provided by the development of Internet and IP technologies. It is expected to be extended the service domain of two networks through the interconnecting P2PSIP overlay which is highlighted as an important technologies for Internet based services and IMS(IP Multimedia Subsystem) which is the new architecture adopted in the evolution of NGN. Therefore, this paper explains the possible methods of the service expansion with interconnecting P2PSIP overlay and IMS network. Specially this paper suggests the interconnection architectures of P2PSIP overlay and IMS network as subscriber's types and analyzes the traffic analysis model and session set up delay characteristics by simulation model. As a results, this paper shows that the interconnection architecture using gateway AS(Application Server) is the excellent method to interconnect the IMS in case of P2PSIP overlay only subscriber, and that interconnection architecture using I-CSCF is good method to interconnect the IMS in case of P2PSIP overlay and IMS subscriber.

  • P2P streaming technology has advantages of scalability and availability comparing to the popular IP multicast. This paper proposes an approach to apply the P2P streaming technology to the delay-sensitive multimedia multicast applications. In order for the P2P streaming to be applied to the delay-sensitive applications, prior construction of delay-guaranteed overlay network is necessarily required. Moreover, the delay-guaranteed overlay network should be able to be kept even when the hand-overs occur owing to the departures of the intermediate P2P peers. This paper proposes a delay-guaranteed overlay network construction method by using the bandwidth and end-to-end delay based admission control and the backup peer based hand-over control mechanism.

  • In this paper, we proposed a hybrid P2P overlay structure for live media streaming. The proposed structure consists of the mesh overlay organized by peers according to the geographical proximity and similar bandwidth range and the tree overlay formed by the peers for which the stability of participation is approved. The proposed scheme enhances the robustness of tree overlay and the long delay of mesh overlay by intelligently combining the utilization of the tree overlay and the mesh overlay. Furthermore, the peers with a large up-link bandwidth are located near to the media source peer. Therefore, it reduces the height of tree, and as a result, the stream transmission delay. Through simulation, we evaluated the performance of the proposed scheme in terms of scalability and quality of services.

  • Recently, Peer-to-Peer (P2P) overlay networks like CAN, Chord, Pastry and Tapestry offer a novel platform for scalable and decentralized distributed applications. These systems provide efficient and fault-tolerant routing, object location, and load balancing within a self-organizing overlay network. Content Delivery Network (CDN) is an intermediate layer of infrastructure that helps to efficiently deliver the multimedia content from content providers to clients. In this paper, We propose a topology-aware P2P overlay network for CDN, Rosary, in which CDN servers perform Intra-Pastry and Inter-Pastry routing based on a two-level structured overlay network. This proposed system extends pastry by adapting itself to CDN environments, where a semi-hashing based scheme for Intra-Pastry routing is introduced, and dynamic landmark technology is used to construct the topology-aware overlay network. Through simulations on NS-2, it is shown that Rosary is scalable, efficient, and flexible.

  • The P2P IPTV will create a new paradigm for the Internet services. However, it cannot guarantee the reliability of their server and QoS because of using common Internet users(peers) for SIP server or relay server, though the infrastructural cost is low. This paper proposes the ISP-based P2P IPTV architecture which can solute the limitations of conventional P2P-based IPTV. In this model, ISP can build P2P overlay network with ISP servers and directly manage each server needed for session connection. So, the servers have higher performance and better reliability than previous one. Besides, robustness is improved because each sever is set by P2P overlay network. To evaluate the characteristics of the ISP-based P2P IPTV architecture, we simulate it for some parameters which are end-to-end streaming delay time, connection delay time and traffic amount. We compared the proposed architecture with the conventional P2P architecture about video service and confirmed that the performance of ISP-based P2P IPTV is better than conventional P2P based IPTV.

  • Peer-to-Peer (P2P) overlay networks have drawn much research interest in the past few years because they provide a good substrate for large-scale applications in the Internet. In this paper, we introduce the use of anycast, a new "one-to-one-of-many" communication method in the Internet, to solve the following common problems of P2P overlay networks: load-balancing, topology-awareness, system partitioning, and multi-overlay interconnection. We also give an analysis of the features and limitations of the recently deployed anycast infrastructures in the Internet for supporting P2P overlay networks.

  • The efficiency of live Peer-to-Peer (P2P) streaming protocols depends on the appropriateness and the management abilities of their underlying overlay multicast. While a tree overlay structure confines transmission delays efficiently by maintaining deterministic delivery paths, an overlay mesh structure provides adequate resiliency to peers dynamics and easy maintenance. On the other hand, content freshness, playback fluidity and streaming continuity are still challenging issues that require viable solutions. In this paper, we propose a Hybrid Live P2P Streaming Protocol (HLPSP) based on a hybrid overlay multicast that integrates the efficiency of both the tree and mesh structures. Extensive simulations using OMNET++ are conducted to investigate the efficiency of HLPSP in terms of relevant performance metrics, and position HLPSP with respect to DenaCast the enhanced version of the well-known CoolStreaming protocol. Simulation results show that HLPSP outperforms DenaCast in terms of startup delay, end-to-end delay, play-back delay and data loss.

  • A peer-to-peer(P2P) network is inherently vulnerable to malicious attacks from participating peers because of its open, flat, and autonomous nature. This paper addresses the problem of effectively defending from active attacks of malicious peers at bootstrapping phase and at online phase, respectively. We propose a secure membership handling protocol to protect the assignment of ID related things to a newly joining peer with the aid of a trusted entity in the network. The trusted entities are only consulted when new peers are joining and are otherwise uninvolved in the actions of the P2P networks. For the attacks in online phase, we present a novel message structure applied to each message transmitted on the P2P overlay. It facilitates the detection of message alteration, replay attack and a message with wrong information. Taken together, the proposed techniques deter malicious peers from cheating and encourage good peers to obey the protocol of the network. The techniques assume a basic P2P overlay network model, which is generic enough to encompass a large class of well-known P2P networks, either unstructured or not.

  • Recently, many researches on P2P overlay network-based multimedia streaming services have been actively performed because of their high scalability and cost-efficiency advantages. However, P2P overlay networks also have the shortcoming of generating higher traffic owing to their unicast-based one-to-many multimedia deliveries. In order to reduce the traffic generated by the P2P streaming overlay network, we propose an ISP and locality-based parent node discovery method and check its feasibility through an implementation of a prototype streaming system. The measurement of RTTs and hop counts for random nodes having different ISPs and localities shows the proposed method to be able to shorten about 32% RTTs and about 17% Hop counts.
