  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to assess the association between sleep disturbances and personality type. Methods: Five hundred twenty-four college students in Gyeonggi-do completed the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) and a questionnaire and collected data were analyzed by SAS 9.4 program. Results: Extroversion (E) type, sensation (S) type, and perceiving (P) type had significantly higher prevalence of insomnia than introversion (I) type (p<0.05), intuition (N) type (p<0.05), and judging (J) type (p<0.001), respectively. Tooth grinding, snoring and insomnia appeared to occur more frequently in feeling (F) type than in thinking (T) type. Tooth clenching, tooth grinding and snoring seemed to occur more frequently in S type than in N type. Insomnia occurred significantly the most frequently in sensation-feeling (SF) type (p<0.05). Tooth grinding and snoring seemed to occur the most frequently in SF type. A significantly increased percentage of sensation-perceiving (SP) type demonstrated insomnia (p<0.001). Tooth clenching, tooth grinding and snoring seemed to occur the most frequently in sensation-judging (SJ) type. Sensitive or nervous type of personality had significantly higher prevalence of insomnia than relaxed or general type of personality (p<0.01). A significantly increased percentage of subjects with bad general health status showed insomnia (p<0.0001). Tooth clenching and snoring seemed to occur the most frequently in subjects with bad general health status. A significantly decreased percentage of normal weight subjects demonstrated tooth grinding (p<0.05). Snoring occurred significantly the most frequently in overweight subjects (p<0.001). Tooth clenching showed significant correlation with stress (p<0.01) and personality (p<0.05). Snoring showed significant correlation with stress (p<0.05) and body weight (p<0.001). Insomnia showed significant correlation with stress (p<0.0001), personality (p<0.01), and general health status (p<0.0001). Conclusions: Sleep disturbances including tooth clenching and insomnia were associated with personality type and it is desirable to manage them considering personality type.

  • This study aimed to investigate the influence of anions in the air on the purification of fine dust (PM10 and PM2.5) and to evaluate the effects of plants on the generation of anions in the air and the purification of fine dust. Subsequently, the fine dust reduction models were compared according to each factor and plant volume. The characteristics of anion generation by each factor were observed to be in the order of Type N.I (negative ion generator; 204,133.33 ea/cm3) > Type P30 (plant vol. 30%; 362.55 ea/cm3) > Type C (control; 46.22 ea/cm3), indicating that the amount of anion generation in the anion generator treatment group and the plant arrangement group were approximately 4,417 times and 7 times higher, respectively, than that in the untreated group. Consequently, the fine dust reduction characteristics by anion generation source showed that for PM10, Type NI had a purification efficiency 2.52 times higher than Type C, and Type P30 was 1.46 times higher, while for PM2.5, Type NI had a purification efficiency 2.26 times higher than Type C, and Type P30 was 1.31 times higher. The efficiency of fine dust purification by plant volume was in the order of Type P20 (84.60 minutes) > Type P30 (106.50 minutes) = Type P25 (115.50 minutes) = Type P15 (117.60 minutes) > Type P5 (125.25 minutes) = Type P10 (129.75 minutes), and for ultrafine dust, Type P20 (104.00 minutes) > Type P30 (133.20 minutes) = Type P25 (144.00 minutes) = Type P15 (147.60 minutes) > Type P5 (161.25 minutes) = Type P10 (168.00 minutes). Thus, a quantitative analysis of the anions and plants for purifying fine dust and suggested matters to be considered for future green space planning and plant planting considering fine dust purification.

  • The production and cation flux-mediated activation of the P-type ATPase in Helicobacter pylori was investigated. Using the polymerase chain reaction (PCR), the proton pump genotype of H. pylori was found to be positive for both F-type and P-type ATPases. Yet, their production in terms of enzyme specific activity varied substantially depending on H. pylori strains, ranging over 3-fold. Its main constituent appeared to be the P-type ATPase pool, in contrast to other common bacterial compositions. Interestingly, the F-type ATPase was observed only when intact H. pyloricells were exposed to pH 4.5 or above (37$^{\circ}C$ for 1 h). In contrast, significant amounts of the P-type ATPase still remained after 1 h of cell treatment even at pH below 4.5. By enriching the acidic medium with RPMI(pH 3.0), the P-type ATPase was stabilized, accompained by inactivation of the F-type ATPase. Using H. pylori membrane vesicles, it was found that ammionia-mediated cation flux increased the rate of ATP hydrolysis by the P-type ATPase. Accordingly, these data strongly suggest that the P-type ATPase is involved or functions as an effective regulator for the cation flux across the H. pylori membrane, thereby reducing the risk of excess proton influx.

  • Thirteen varieties of Tongil type and ten of Japonica type which were produced in Korea, in 1985, were campa red in namely, width, thickness, length and weight of rice grains. Thousand-grain weight of paddy, brown rice and milled rice were not significantly different between Tongil type and Japonica type, but difference of paddy-brown rice and brown rice-milled rice had significant (p<2,859** and 4.316***, respectively), and the ratio of difference of paddy-brown rice was higher Tongil type than Japonica type. Width, thickness and length of paddy, brown rice and milled rice was significant (width : p<5.189***, 5.289** and 5.466***, thickness: p<3.371** 4.074*** and 5.988***, length: p<3.016**, 4.419*** and 5.492*** in paddy, brown rice and milled rice, respectively) between the Tongil type and Japonica type, and then the width and thickness of Japonica type were thicker than Tongil type, but length of Japonica type was shorter than Tongil type width/thickness ratio of paddy wes significant (p<2.396*) between the Tongil type and Japonica type, but its brown rice and milled rice was not. And length/width and length/ thickness ratio of paddy, brown rice and milled rice were significant (length/width : p<5.525***, 5.495*** and 5.863***, length/thickness: p<4.734***, 6,863*** and 8.425*** in paddy, brown rice and milled rice) between the Tongil type and Japonica type, and then its ratio were higher Tongil type than Japonica type.
